loved seeing Clyde and Jo return, part of me wishes we could have had John Levene

I reiterate that I am still unable to watch these programs as, far as I’m aware, they’re not available in the States. Still, I wished to see the reaction. There was no problem, by the way, with this reaction being a bit on the later side, because as you said, the timing works out well with the premiere of the new season. Your sheer joy over seeing Clyde and then Jo was worth the price of admission alone. A whole show with the two of them would be grand. Your description of this reaction being a lot of you staring at a screen and crying, that about sums up my reaction to your reaction. Jesus Christ, I got reduced to a blubbering mess. These shorts have had, as you observed, a strong focus on the history of Doctor Who. In this case, you noted the idea of legacy, and how it carries on through the generations. Emotional hearing Jo and Clyde discuss the absent friends like Sarah Jane. I do like, Jess, that you adored the spotlight of we only have so much time with those we care for, thus the time in which we can tell those people that is limited and should be cherished. This reaction was a lovely surprise, especially as I had a trying morning. This has made up for it some. Addressing your strategy of the New Who reactions likely being on Sundays, I say, “An acceptable timeframe.” I do vividly remember how the sixtieth anniversary specials proved most troublesome for you, and likewise, I got anxiety and discomfort hearing that you were going through it trying to get those reactions up in a timely fashion. I felt so bad for you about that. Thus, I’m fine with the Sunday release strategy. Hopefully things go well for you, filming-wise, editing-wise, copyright-wise, and otherwise-wise. I will say the release strategy for the new season is puzzling. The specials all seemed to air at approximately primetime in the UK, and it was about one in the afternoon where I live. From the sound of it, the new episodes of this season will premiere in the States at about four in the afternoon on the west coast, seven where you’re at, and about six where I am. And not in the UK until midnight. I hear all this and note the release strategy seems more catered to American audiences, which seems really peculiar. In any case, I again state that I hope things will go well for you with reactions to this new season. And I thank you, Jess, for just one of the loveliest reactions. I greatly appreciated it.

I had to take a break watching this one, with how intense your emotions got (and that's why I still haven't gotten the guts to try out the Schindler's List video). I very much suspect that Bernard Cribbins' passing had a heavy effect on how RTD wrote this one, with its emphasis on losing old friends and doing what you can before it's too late (including making use of Stewart Bevan's death in 2022 to reveal that Cliff is also gone, and the fact that he and Katy really had been engaged while making that story adds a ton of subtext to her performance). And it's fantastic that he took this opportunity to give some measure of closure to the SJA crew, especially with The Giggle having finally entered Sarah Jane's death into canon. Two more of these to go, though I do recommend you wait until the end of Five and Six's runs respectively to watch them, as they include some stuff from after the particular story they retell.

Yeah, the emotions Jess went through in this one were intense. Like I said, I got reduced to a blubbering mess myself just from watching the reaction. I could see Bernard’s death having an impact on the writing for this one, with the theme of old friends long gone and as you said, doing what you can before it’s too late. That is nice there’s greater closure for the Sarah Jane crew. I would suspect Jess is going to hold off on the other two until after Five and Six’s runs.

It feels so incredibly lucky that we have so many actors even from the show’s earliest days still with us and able to do these, with the love they all still have for the show pouring through every moment. The weight of their ages adds a ton to the emotional impact, especially with the focus this one has.

For Tales Of The TARDIS, check out 'Monarchetype Email' channel on YouTube. Since I don't watch TV, that's how I got them. It's rather alarming to think that Jon Pertwee was born 105 years ago next month on July 7th 1919! Even Katy is 77! I guess I'm just getting old.

Thank you for a wonderful reaction. I did wonder if you'd experienced some kind of copyright issues with this because I've seen a lot of reactions to Tales of the Tardis and this one seems to be strangely missing. That said it's a great piece & so good to see Jo & Clyde. Given it's the third Doctors era, I'd have really loved to have seen Benton in it, that would have been amazing. Was really disappointed that this run of short specials didn't have the equivalent of a Fourth Doctors era. From what I read they couldn't get anyone from that era to be in it sadly, so they just skipped it.

Katy is absolutely brilliant in this. What a wonderful elderly female Doctor she would have made. Eccentricity, integrity and compassion.
