After loving Sterling K. Brown so much on This Is Us, I was thrilled to hear he'd be joining this show. And it's very nice to see him as another character more akin to his time as Gordon in Supernatural, while still being enough of his own thing that it doesn't just feel like he's treading in place. I know nothing about the comic, so it feels like this truly could go anywhere.

Now I know we had the Atom Eve special to whet the appetite, but it is so lovely to jump back into this show, and equally lovely to again share it with you, Jess. Reminds me that I need to talk to my brother to see if he’s started the new season yet; I kept pushing for him to watch season one, and when he saw it, he LOVED it. Start by talking about the opening. I suppose I’m too sick a man, but every time you were questioning what the hell was going on in the opening, I kept throwing my head back and I diabolically cackled. It did take a moment to fully ascertain what we were seeing. Once it did, my one thought was pondering which was more violent and graphic, Sam Raimi tackling a Multiverse of Madness or Invincible doing the same thing. The opening was deeply unsettling. Addressing your one query of the Multiversal shenanigans being part of the source-material or jumping on the Everything Everywhere All at Once/MCU bandwagon. I think, based on rumblings I heard, that is in the comics. How much, a lot or a little, I can’t speak to as I’ve not read the comics. Ergo, I would wager that it’s largely coincidental timing with the opening of the season tackling the multiversal concept coinciding with the rather popular market at the moment. Second, addressing your query about Donald, I loved the look on your face when you saw him, by the way. Yeah, I was thrown for a loop as well, saying, “Oh. Ok, uh, I guess... Somehow, Donald returned.” I assume this will be a mystery for the season. Regardless, I too am happy to see Donald. Besides, it’s not the first time a character I love has somehow returned where I’m largely just happy to see them again, despite the confusion as to how. Yes, the major heart of this is seeing Mark and Debbie still dealing with the grief, pain, and trauma. I’m intimately familiar with the “Could I have done this? Could I have done that?” that Mark, and to a lesser extent, Debbie is going through. I concur with you on Cecil, who, by the way, answering your one question, I’d say he’s my favorite on this show thus far. He’s recognizing Mark’s still needing to heal and process. I am also with you on not being too averse to the Immortal being suspicious of Mark That’s a valid fucking concern given his being betrayed by Omni-Man, an experience that was probably as unpleasant as his visit to the Ford Theatre to see Our American Cousin. Angstrom Levy makes an intriguing debut, especially his recruiting to help him, the Mauler Twins, love seeing them again. It was darkly ironic how he said he didn’t want to build his new world with blood, and then he causes quite the mess. I loved how the surviving Mauler twin outright tells him he’s only got himself to blame for his current predicament. Likewise, I found it strangely sweet when said Mauler twin stood up for Mark some. In any case, Angstrom’s cheese has slid off his cracker, leading to his vow to destroy... Invincible. I too was tickled how they kept holding off on the cut to the title gag; I surmised that would save it to the last in this episode. Other notes of interest. Rex got under my skin again lickety split, leading me to say with withering disdain, “Oh, how I’ve missed you, Rex.” Though he was kind of nicely supportive, highlighted by Cecil even acknowledging it, much to his disbelief. He was certainly better than Todd, whose efforts to offer condolences to Mark were SO FUCKING triggering that I was begging the asshole to shut the fuck up A lovely reaction to the start of the new season, Jess, thank you.

I haven’t seen too much of This is Us. What I have seen is great, so I wouldn’t doubt that I would really like the show if I were to see the whole thing. Sterling K. Brown is great in most everything I’ve seen him in. The most I’ve caught of him in This is Us are scenes that he shares with Pamela Adlon, whom I absolutely love and adore. His character here, Angstrom, has my attention. I’m deliberately keeping myself in the dark about the source material as much as possible so it will remain a surprise as to where this all goes, which, as you say, it truly could go anywhere.
