I think where I have a big issue with Zuko stealing the food from the pregnant couple is that in like 5 minutes, he is going to stand up to Earth Kingdom soldiers for taking food from a peasant. What does he care? He just stole food from a literal pregnant woman, on what grounds does he suddenly have a mental change to endanger himself and pick a fight?

So I didn't like the "Zuko steals the food" scene for a very different reason than it bastardizing his character. When I first watched I was like "hell yeah, holy shit, great moment." It was such a subversion of expections, sitting you down and saying this is a different Zuko, a different episode, a different story. But then it wasn't. They told the same story, the same beats as Zuko alone. It really felt like that scene was a pledge to the audience saying that this was going to be a different episode, and then it wasn't. And it felt like the awesomeness of "holy shit he actually took the food" was stolen as they proceeded to tell the same story. Idk maybe it's just me, it just really felt like they were promising something they didn't deliver on
