Chapter #25: Alive again.

Vengeance, that’s the only thing Harry had in mind as he slowly opened his eyes, he was able to hear some beeps, and the room was lit with a lightbulb, this was good, he wasn’t at a magical hospital, he was in a muggle one, slowly but steady he finally took a grip of the situation he was currently in.

“I’m glad you finally woke up, Harry,” he recognized that voice.

“Amelia…” Harry was surprised to see the older redhead in his hospital room.

She gave him a fond smile and then took a pause, there were some important things they needed to discuss, but she didn’t want to overwhelm him.

“Say what you have in mind, Miss Bones,” Harry said with a weak smile.

Maybe he was too tired or maybe he was too sedated, he wasn’t sure, but he felt frail and yet, there was nothing but vengeance on his mind, he wanted to destroy Dumbledore and Snape, that old bastard used him just like his masters and once he fulfilled his purpose, he was cut down by them, they could’ve easily obliviate him and yet they decided to kill him, there was no way in hell he was forgiving this treachery.

“How are you feeling, Harry?” She asked with a soft tone, and Harry smiled at her.

“Like shit, Amelia…I’ve felt like I was beaten up by a hundred guys at least…” He mumbled as he slowly tried to sit. “Ah…That hurt,” he said to himself, now regretting his decision to move.

“I know this looks bad, but…The doctors are surprised you’re recovering very fast…In fact, that attack would’ve killed most people, wizard or muggle,” Amelia told him with a smile.

“Yeah…I’ve always been like that, my cousin, the one I grew up with, used to bully me, and he was very violent; he broke my arms and my nose once, and yet…The next day after each of those incidents, my body was back in one piece,” he confessed, and she was taken aback by his confession.

She knew that he had no magical family; had she known about his situation, she would’ve taken him in. She was friends with Lily and James after all, she and James were coworkers in the Auror force, now she felt guilty she never tried to look for their son to see if he was alright, she was told he was with family, the thought of your own family treating you like that sounded despicable.

“I’m sorry, Harry…I should’ve checked on you while you were growing up, it’s just that…I was told that these days it is not that common to treat your family members like that in the Muggle world with all the authorities and systems…” Amelia tried to ease her guilt.

Harry quickly waved one hand; the last thing he wanted was pity from a woman he was attracted to.

“It’s alright, Amelia, I’m sure someone in your position had many other things to be concerned about, and also, let's add the fact that you were taking care of your niece, that must’ve been very difficult,” he told her with a weak smile.

“Oh, right…You’re Susan’s housemate,” she sighed.

“Yeah, but we don’t talk. I don’t think she likes me,” Harry chuckled. “But enough of that…I’m sure something is bothering you. Please, share it with me,” he encouraged her.

She didn’t want to act like this, but in the end, she sighed.

“I know it’s too fast and it might sound insensible but…Do you have any idea who was behind the attack? Do you have any enemies or people who could hold a grudge against you? Maybe an old rival?” She questioned with a concerned expression.

Harry considered his options. On one hand, it would be great for her to take care of Snape and Dumbledore, but he needed to dismantle that secret government, and the only key to reach that goal is Dumbledore and if he killed Snape, Dumbledore was going to suspect he knew about the secret government; he needed the two of them alive, but he was already imagining the many things he was going to do to those traitors.

“I have no idea, Amelia…I think it was just an accident, the guy was looking scared before he shot me, and then he ran away in shame,” Harry told her with a bitter expression.

Not only was he hiding what he knew, but he was betraying himself by not being honest with this woman he knew he could trust; however, the last thing he wanted was to involve her in something like this, all the people involved are part of something bigger than himself.

This was just like in muggle shows, he was on the verge of dismantling a conspiracy, a secret government, and just like those protagonists on the TV, he felt like only he should be involved in that, there was no point dragging other people with him to this path of self-destruction as he knew he was only doing this for vengeance not for another reason.

If he told Amelia what he knew he was sure she was going to get silenced by the secret government, either that or obliviated until her mind is broken, no, the last thing he wanted was to put her and Susan in danger, even though the younger redhead has never liked him and the feeling was mutual, he didn’t want to bring innocents down with him.

“I wanted to believe that too, but…The muggle officers who followed the man reached a closed alley, but the man was nowhere to be found, which clearly means one thing…” She said as she took a look at her notes.

“Yes?” Harry was curious to hear her conclusions.

“The person who shot you was a wizard…And he was probably using Polyjuice potion,” she confessed, and Harry’s eyes widened.

She was good, there was no doubt about it.

“The fact that he uses a gun tells me one thing, they’re very familiar with the muggle world, in fact, that person was probably raised in the muggle world, it’s most likely a muggle-born but there are also purebloods and half bloods who were raised in the muggle world, it’s going to be difficult but if we check the school records we’re probably going to find something that could link them to you,” she said with a serious tone.

Harry was worried about her; if she found the truth, her life could be in danger, however, he could not stop her, so the only solution for this was for him to hurry up and find a way to destroy the secret government.

“You’re a great detective, Amelia…I’m serious,” he said with a cheerful smile, even if inside he was fearing for her life.

She was getting too close to the truth, and the people she was dealing with were powerful enough to destroy the world if they wanted to. Had all of them been pureblood supremacists, they would’ve helped Voldemort instead. That was a scary thought, but now that he thought about it, the dark wizard’s rise to power was suspicious; maybe their predecessors allowed his rise until they saw no use for him.

Then Amelia did something he wasn’t expecting, she hugged him and started to sob, Harry didn’t know how to act in a situation like this, so, he just decided to put his hand on her back.

“I was so worried we were going to lose you!” She said with tears in her eyes.

And then she did something he wasn’t expecting, she kissed him.
