Chapter #8: Sacrifices.

It was time for Susan to leave.

“Are you sure you don’t want to stay at the manor? Father would’ve wanted you to stay here,” Draco said now, completely sober.

It’s been a few days since the funeral, and Susan feels like it's already time for her to get to work. If she truly wanted to find who did this, she needed to get over her grief as much as she could. She looked at Draco with a warm expression and smiled.

“Yeah, it’s alright, Harry will take me to another safe house, after all, we don’t want the enemy to easily find me, right?” She asked with a weak smile.

“I’m going to be alone without you…Are you sure you cannot tell me where you’re taking her, Potter?” Draco insisted, but Harry shook his head.

“No, I’m sorry, but if someone close to you did it, they could use legilimency, or put veritaserum on your drinks to know her location,” Harry answered with a serious expression.

Draco couldn’t help but sigh, but he accepted that answer.

“Don’t worry, I’ll try to meet with you as often as possible,” Susan finally was ready to leave.

“Yeah…Please do,” he pretended to be happy for her.

“Shall we get going, then?” Asked Harry with a curious expression.

Susan looked at Draco for the last time before she nodded, and soon, he grabbed her hand.

“Well, thank you for having me, Malfoy,” Harry declared, and before the blonde could say something else, the pair disappeared in a fraction of a second.

Draco was alone now, with his father gone and his mother already living elsewhere the manor was his, that was a dream he had when he was young and yet, the circumstances that made this possible didn’t make him feel good about this, in the end, he could only sigh, he had no time to waste, as the new Lord Malfoy, it was his duty to take care of the family businesses.

Meanwhile, Harry and Susan arrived in the countryside. Susan had no idea where they were, but there were tons of pine trees, and there were snowy mountains too. She was feeling a bit nervous about this place; it’s been so long since she had a trip in the mountains. Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard a door opening.

“Oh…A cottage in the mountains? Looks cozy,” Susan said, trying to be as polite as possible.

Harry chuckled.

“You don’t have to pretend you like this place, Susan, I know you’re probably used to expensive things and much better experiences but right now you’re like a needle in the ocean, it will be impossible to find you, I’m the only one who knows your location, but if I were to die, you’ll be completely safe here if you decided to stay,” Harry said as he entered the place.

Susan chuckled.

Harry was surprised by how sweet her laughter was. Still, he didn’t say anything else; he just placed the things and got the place warmer. It was almost December, so even in the middle of the day, the place was a bit cold.

“So, what’s the story behind this place?” She asked with an expression full of interest.

Harry tried to think about something because in actual, this place belonged to one of his coworkers, the guy who was good at his job but one day he just disappeared, no one knows what happened to that person, the only evidence he has is the presence of some lights in the middle of the night, he got that information after using legilimency on a bird that was nesting nearby and witnessed everything.

“Uh…I rented this place to a friend who likes to travel around the world, don’t worry, we have the place for ourselves,” Harry told her with a smile. “He likes to hunt, and he took me here once, and I liked it, I love coming here when I feel overwhelmed,” he explained, and she nodded.

“Well, now that we’re settled in, we need to plan our next move, so…Fudge,” she said before sighing.

“Yes…Fudge,” Harry agreed in an annoyed tone. “If I’m honest with you, I don’t want to see him, after his smear campaign against me during our fifth year, I don’t think I want to see him again,” Harry sighed.

“So…You’re not going to help me?” She started to have some doubts.

“Don’t worry, I’m going to help you. This is what we’re going to do, I’m going to tie him to a chair, and I’m going to get everything with veritaserum and—” Harry was stopped by Susan.

She looked at him with a surprised expression.

“Harry, wait, those are illegal methods, not even my aunt, as an Auror, was able to do that; she said the government used to have some kind of secret service that used those methods, but…” Her words almost made him choke on his own spit.

He needed to be careful, or else she was going to suspect who he really is.

“Oh, right, sorry…It’s just…I’m a warrior, Susan, a war veteran, protocols and all that stuff don’t matter when the destiny of the world rests on your shoulders, you know?” He hated using the “Voldemort card”, but it always saved him from questions he didn't want to answer.

“I get it, however, let’s do things more rationally, the last thing we want is for you to be denounced and get locked up for attacking a former minister,” Susan’s words were calm, but Harry could tell she wasn’t happy about it either.

Fudge was a very ugly man after all, not only is he ugly on the outside, but he was ugly on the inside too; it's quite the achievement for a man to be twice as ugly.

“You’re right, I’m sorry for trying to act so impulsively,” Harry sighed, and she smiled.

“Don’t worry, I have a plan that will help us get information,” she told Harry with a cheerful expression. “I’ll come back soon. I suggest you get dressed in your finest suit,” she added energetically.

Harry didn’t have time to ask her what her plan was. She ran to the nearest room with her luggage. He had no idea how she had that much energy, but in the end, he sighed and decided to get dressed as he was told.

He just transfigured his clothes, and soon he was completely dressed. He was reading a broom magazine when the door opened. He was about to greet her politely, but his eyes widened at the sight.

She was dressed very interestingly, a tight red dress that ended way above her knees and red high heels, that’s the outfit she was wearing.

“Susan…What’s with the outfit?” He asked, surprised.

Susan didn’t want to speak, but in the end, she sighed.

“We’re going to see Fudge at his place. I’ve been there a few times, and during the funeral, he told me to see him if I needed someone to talk to; however, I know his true intentions…He clearly wants to seduce me; he has flirted countless times with me since I started dating Lucius,” she said with a weak smile.

Harry cringed, and she giggled.

“Don’t worry, it doesn’t make me happy either, but if he thinks I’m interested in his advances, he’s going to spill out his secrets faster,” Susan told him with a calm expression.

Harry wanted to protest but seeing her so worked up made him sigh and smile at her. If that’s the way she wanted to proceed, then there was nothing he could do but just follow her.
