Chapter #2: Selfish reasons.

Time, it’s a really interesting concept, and somehow all creatures make use of it; the plants know when it’s winter and when it’s spring, they know when to bloom and others when to hibernate just like many animals, however, humans have always wanted to control time, either for selfish reasons or because they want to prevent the tragedies that occurred in the past.

Regardless of their reasons, in the end, controlling and traveling through time has been declared as something impossible, or at least it is with the science known to these days, and even wizards and witches they have magic, time cannot be fully controlled with it, time turners exist but you can only go back a few hours in the past and you can’t touch anything or else you’re going to spend the rest of the days in Azkaban so that’s not a reliable way to travel.

That’s why Harry was so interested to know what Hermione and the rest of his friends used to travel back in time. He couldn’t help but look at them with a curious expression. It’s not like he found them sexy; he was really interested to know how they managed to travel through time.

“Come on, Harry…Spit it out,” older Hermione’s tone took him by surprise.

Now, everyone was looking at him with interest. This was an awkward situation, and he had no idea how to get out of it.

“What are you talking about, future Hermione?” Asked Harry, trying to feign ignorance.

“Come on, Harry, just be honest, I promise we don’t bite…” Luna couldn’t help but say with a grin.

Harry blushed, but then sighed because he knew he had no other choice but to talk.

“I know this is going to sound crazy, but… If you were able to travel through time, why didn’t you travel further in the past, like when Voldemort was young? It would be easier to kill him, or even better, you could prevent his existence,” Harry questioned with a concerned expression.

There was no doubt he was grateful towards his friends from the future; he was sure the Death Eaters would've killed them without future Hermione and the rest appearing to help, but for efficiency reasons, in his mind, it would've been better if they traveled further in the past. Hermione and the rest looked at each other with raised brows at his question.

“And to think some people call him stupid,” Harry heard Susan say, and he couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

“It’s a valid question, though,” Fleur spoke this time.

“We already did that…” Hermione from the future suddenly confessed.

She gained everyone’s attention after saying those words; it seemed like it was time for explanations.

“You see…Time works in an interesting way; just because you can go back and erase something from the past, it doesn’t mean that the future that you're trying to avoid won't happen,” Hermione said with a sad tone.

“So you’re telling me that you went back and killed Voldemort when he was young?” Harry was surprised.

“He wasn't even conceived; I prevented his parents from meeting each other,” future Hermione was amused.

“As a consequence, the timeline was split; our timeline in which Voldemort existed still exists in space, after all, we’re still here,” Daphne explained with a calm tone.

“However, a new timeline has been created, one in which Voldemort never existed. I admit I’m curious to know how that timeline is looking, but sadly, we couldn’t stay because we were surprised to see that the events that took place in our timeline will still happen,” Tonks sighed, disappointed.

“So…No matter how much you try to change something, the timeline will just split, and it’s going to create a different timeline?” Questioned Ron, surprising everyone.

He wasn’t known for being too curious about these things, so seeing him so immersed in this was interesting to say the least.

“Yeah, basically it works like that,” Susan said with a weak smile.

“Well, I don’t want to hurt you girls, but…Why risk everything to travel back in time if your timeline will remain the same?” Harry couldn’t comprehend what would drive them to risk their lives just to go back to the past.

“Well… I’m the first to admit that I had selfish reasons,” future Hermione suddenly walked towards Harry.

The younger wizard couldn’t help but gulp at the sight of the future version of his best friend, if there was something no one knew about him was the fact that he liked older women, so, now that he saw the way the future version of his best friend looked like, he couldn’t help but feel jealous towards Ron, she was probably married to him in the future where she comes from.

“What do you mean?” Hermione asked her future self, a bit annoyed because of the way Harry was looking at her.

“Because we wanted to create a timeline in which Harry doesn't die,” Daphne suddenly spoke.

She was cold and practical, and because she wasn’t friends with most people in the room, she had no interest in carefully choosing her words.

“I-I died?” Harry couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

He had already accepted death a long time ago when he realized that life liked to take everything he loved, his parents, Sirius, and Dumbledore, so he had a gut feeling that he was going to die in this war, and it seems like he created his own self-fulfilled prophecy.

“I would love to say that was the only tragedy, but no…Voldemort managed to conquer the magical world in the future after he killed Harry; however, we’ve been investigating since then to find a way to avoid that fate and all the other tragedies that are going to take place in this war,” Hermione couldn’t help but gulp.

She knew very well what was coming, and she wasn’t looking forward to it, but sometimes, the best thing you can do is just accept things so you can get to work.

“So… What I thought was going to happen is going to eventually happen? I’m going to die in this war,” Harry said with a neutral tone.

To hear him speaking like that made many people feel pity for him; however, they knew him very well, and the last thing he wanted was people’s pity, so his closest friends, Ron and Hermione, decided to place a hand on each of his shoulders.

“Yes, but the situation is far more complicated than that,” Fleur told him with a serious expression.

“I think we should—” Daphne was about to suggest, but she was stopped by Hermione.

“I’ll take care of it,” the older Hermione said before taking one of Harry's hands.

Her hand felt really warm. He liked how it felt to hold it; however, soon everyone was staring at them with confused expressions. Ron tried not to feel jealous about that display of emotions. After all, Hermione was married to him in the future, right?

“Take care of?” Harry questioned with a raised brow.

“Yes…There’s something we need to talk about…Your death is a key part in this war, but now we can use that to our advantage!” Future Hermione smiled at him.

He felt his cheeks getting warm, but then he remembered he wasn’t alone and clarified his voice.

“Well, if that’s the case, then I guess we should get going,” Harry tried to act cool.

Future Hermione found it amusing, and soon, she left the place while she was holding hands with Harry as she led him to a private room. They knew they were being stared at, but that was okay.
