Chapter #1: Happy wife, unhappy life.
“…I hereby declare you husband and wife…” An older man said to a woman with dark hair and curls and a younger man with dark hair and emerald eyes.
She was wearing a beautiful white dress, and he was wearing the typical black suit. Soon, people started to cheer for the couple who just looked into each other’s eyes with defiant expressions; however, despite that, their lips collided in an innocent kiss. However, after that kiss ended, the woman whispered something in the younger man’s ear.
“Don’t even think that’s going to repeat… Potter!” She told him bitterly.
“Don’t worry, I don’t wish to relieve the nightmare that has been kissing you… Black!” He whispered back.
The guests at the wedding thought they were conspiring and talking about couple stuff, which most of them found wholesome. Oh, they couldn’t be more wrong, even if they wanted to, considering these two hate each other’s guts.
His name is Harry Potter, he turned eighteen a few months ago, and he’s one of the newest recruits in the Auror department. As for the woman, she’s Bellatrix Black; she’s forty-two years old, has never been married, and she’s also part of the Auror forces; in fact, she’s Harry Potter’s boss.
One would think that, despite the age difference, two coworkers falling in love and marrying was a very possible scenario; however, these two have never gotten along. You see, the Potter and Black families have a historical feud. While the Potters try to be the face and the neutral voice amongst the pureblood families, those are the things that make the Black family hate them.
Both families gained their status as powerful families in the ancient times after so many wars, very hard wars that took many lives, so, in that sense, both families are similar, but while the Potters tried to change and clean their image throughout the years, the Black family has embraced that brutal nature and thus, they consider those who think differently from them as inferior, but they in particular despise especially the Potters.
There have been countless fights and battles between the families throughout history, which is why both families can’t get along, which is a problem because both of them are part of the Wizengamot, the council that decides and leads the country with their decisions.
However, something incredible took place half a century ago, the uncle of the current leader of the Black family was saved by Charlus Potter during the war against Grindelwald and after that, they became friends, sadly that was a friendship that had to be kept privately but now that his brother died and that the house was in charge of his nephew Sirius Black, someone who was more progressive, he thought it was time for the feud to end.
“Sirius… Why do you think your uncle wants to talk to us? You know the history between the families. Even though I’m friends with you, I didn’t think the rest of your family would be interested in being friends with me,” James said with a serious expression.
They were at Grimmauld Place, and Sirius had an annoyed expression, because Regulus was the second son; he was able to do anything he wanted, so, after their father’s funeral, he continued with his travels around the world, thus leaving Sirius the responsibility of running the family's businesses, something he dreaded.
“I don’t know, man, for some reason the old fart wanted us to meet him,” Sirius sighed.
“Which old fart are you talking about, Sirius?” The new head of the Black family flinched when he heard his uncle’s voice.
It’s been years since he has spoken to that side of his family; that side of his family disturbs him, as they try to keep the old traditions of the Black family alive.
“Oh… Hey, Uncle Cygnus, you look young. Have you been exercising?” Said Sirius, remembering how stern and scary the man was every time he and Regulus visited that branch of the family.
The old wizard just sighed.
“Lord Potter,” Cygnus said with a calm tone.
“Lord Black,” James said, a little taken aback by the older wizard’s attitude.
“Sirius,” Sirius said to himself, which earned him a look from James and Cygnus. “Let’s sit!” Sirius encouraged them, and soon, they were sitting and sharing some drinks.
“So… What did you wish to talk about, sir?” Asked James calmly.
The old wizard was calm, but then he clarified his voice.
“I’m going to be blunt, James… I can call you James, right?” He asked, and James nodded. “You know… Your father and I... We used to be friends,” Cygnus smiled nostalgically.
“Wow… I didn’t know that,” James was genuinely surprised.
“Yeah, he saved me during the war, and had the circumstances been different, you and Bellatrix would’ve married each other!” Said the old wizard with a smirk.
James and Sirius shuddered. They respected Bellatrix; she was strong, there was no doubt about it, but she was hard to deal with.
“Anyway, I know that just like me… You’re tired of the feud between the Potters and the Blacks,” Cygnus now gained their attention.
“You do?” Sirius was completely taken aback.
“Yes… I just needed to pretend to hate the Potter family because of your father… My brother was a Potter hater to the bone; in fact, he cursed the Potter family with his last breath,” Cygnus chuckled.
Sirius couldn’t help but sigh. Yes, that sounded like his father.
“That’s why I think that the best thing we could do to end the feud is join our families… A marriage sounds like a great idea,” Cygnus proposed.
“But uncle… James has no sisters, and no daughters for me to marry,” Sirius gained a look from his best friend. “Not that I would marry them if they existed…” Sirius said awkwardly, trying to save his image.
“Don’t worry… I would never want to put any woman under the pain of marrying you,” his uncle roasted him.
James started to laugh while Sirius rolled his eyes.
“No, I was thinking more in the lines of your son, Harry, and my daughter who thinks no man is worthy of her… Bellatrix,” Cygnus chuckled.
“Ah… I don’t think that would be a good idea…” James said not so sure.
“Why not? She’s beautiful and strong, and from what I heard, your son is handsome and strong, the best combination we could ask for. Of course, there’s a difference in their ages, but what younger man wouldn’t want to marry an older, beautiful witch?” Cygnus said with a smirk.
“Uncle, just because you married your best friend’s mother, it doesn’t mean everyone wants that!” Sirius said, a bit annoyed.
Although he couldn’t deny that what he said made some sense, after all, ever since he became an adult, Harry has dated only older witches.
“You should speak to your son, this decision could change the direction of our country forever, you see, I don’t expect them to fall in love or something, but I at least expect one grandchild, if by that point they feel like killing each other, then they can separate if they wish to, I already told Bellatrix and she wasn’t happy but she accepted after hearing my reasons why this marriage should happen,” he chuckled.
“I’ll speak to Harry, but don’t get your hopes very high, Cygnus,” James said, and soon, they shared another drink.
And so, that’s how Harry and Bellatrix found themselves in this situation. It hasn’t been too long since Harry joined the Aurors, and Bellatrix has been treating him like shit. The reason for her attitude is that just like her family has been doing through history, she hates the Potters too, but still, her father made some good points during their negotiation… Motherhood, that was something she craved.
However, because of her job she didn’t have time to met and date men, and her father knew about what she wanted, thus he came with this solution, she couldn’t deny that Potter was handsome and strong, but her hatred towards the Potter family was going to make things difficult for them and she doesn’t deny that the one at fault here is her.
Harry has never shown hatred towards her or her family, even if Draco Malfoy was her nephew, the person Harry Potter hated the most, so she wondered why he accepted the marriage in the first place, considering how awful she had been towards him. It was a mystery she needed to investigate.
