Chapter #36: The tour.

The order members were taking their time discussing Harry's vow situation. This was the first time they were dealing with a situation like this. Harry was surprised they didn’t consider the situation carefully; their need to control him shadowed their logical side.

It’s clear that they saw him as some kind of threat that needed to be controlled, and Harry didn’t care too much about it; in fact, seeing him like that was always the case for most people, even the Dumbledore from his universe needed him to have a specific kind of personality to sacrifice himself for the world.

The Dursleys, the treatment at Hogwarts that could’ve been stopped if he threatened to punish students who bullied him and yet, the old wizard didn’t lift a finger in many occasions, of course, he was always busy and that’s something Harry resented, defeating Voldemort was a top priority he should’ve left some of his jobs to focus on the things that mattered.

Anyway, even though Harry is not like Voldemort, there was a point at which he was about to snap and leave everyone on their own. It was his fifth year when he almost decided to do that, but he couldn’t let Voldemort win after Bellatrix killed Sirius.

“Uh… We've discussed the situation, and we've concluded what to do with you, Harry… I think we can trust you not to leak the information, and we recommend you be careful who you speak to because it could put all of us in danger, even you, and if something leaks, you’ll be held responsible for it,” James spoke with a serious tone.

Now it made sense why there were only the high ranks here, they can pretend that he did the vow and Harry was surprised they were able to bend the rules for him, this action may seem irrelevant for some people but Harry has realized something, it’s clear that they’re really interested in keeping him in check which could play in his favor if he plays his cards right.

“Really?” Asked Harry with an arched brow. “Wouldn’t it be better if I didn’t join your group?” Harry was seriously worried about their safety protocols, but of course, he shouldn’t be surprised; wizards lack common sense most of the time.

Instead of saying something, Lily presented Harry and Hermione with a couple of rings. Harry was able to recognize them; they were family rings.

“These are your member rings,” Lily told them with a soft smile.

Harry was surprised by how good an actress his mother was in this universe. She was presenting the rings as if they were some kind of welcoming gift, but Harry knew very well why she wanted them to wear them; these rings can be used to trace and record conversations from non-family members like servants.

But if you’re part of the family like he was, this ring could be used to kill him. Of course, everything depends on how the rings were configured to trigger the killing; Harry needed to be careful and not use this thing.

“Oh, you’re very generous, Mrs. Potter,” Harry said, and he just put the ring in his pocket.

“Aren’t you going to put it on?” Hermione questioned as she checked the ring on her hand.

“I’ll mostly use it when I’m outside, there's no need to waste the enchantments here,” Harry told the brown-haired witch with a grin.

The people in the room were disappointed that he didn’t fall for the trap they set up; he needed to make a copy of the ring to use it.

“You should wear it Harry, not only it would sense if you’re in danger, but also, if other members recognize your ring, it could grant you great job opportunities, this isn’t just a defense group, we also try to support each other in any way we can, after all, an unhappy wizard is a terrible soldier,” Dumbledore chuckled.

“Well, now that you two are official members, why don’t you show Harry the headquarters, Hermione? That’ll be your first mission,” Lily told her with a brilliant smile.

It was hard for Harry to see if she was being genuine or fake.

“Yes, Lily, please excuse us,” Hermione said politely.

“Likewise,” Harry said more casually.

Soon, they were out of the meeting room, and Hermione released a heavy sigh. It’s clear that the situation was too much for the bushy-haired witch; Harry couldn't help but internally chuckle because his best friend is the same.

“Are you okay?” Harry asked worriedly.

It was hard to fight against his instincts to protect Hermione, even though she doesn't need to be protected.

“Yes, it’s just that… I can’t believe I’m a member and that I’m going to work alongside these amazing people!” Hermione felt in heaven.

Her love for authority was the same as the Hermione from his universe; he couldn’t help but smile, but before he could say something else, Sirius, in his dog form, approached them. Great, the scumbag was going to follow them everywhere; that’s the conclusion Harry reached when he saw the dog approach Hermione.

“Shall we get going?” Hermione asked with a nervous smile.

Harry nodded and of course, the first place she showed him was the library, but ironically, Harry was very interested in this place, he wanted to find the secrets of the Potter family, he wanted to know as much about them, is like they always say, you should know your enemy like the palm of your hand, he doesn’t know who said that, maybe he thought of it on the spot or he read it somewhere.

“This is a nice place, Hermione, but… Don't you think we should see the rest of the headquarters?” Harry asked with an amused expression.

The brown-haired witch blushed and nodded; she was already reading through the fifth page of a book.

Then she showed him a place she wasn’t particularly fond of; it was the Quidditch pitch, a place that was built to ease tensions. Then she showed him the greenery, many rare magical herbs were being harvested, well, it makes sense, his mother is a great potioner, or so he heard.

Next Hermione showed him the place that caught his complete interested, the training area where the members polish their abilities, there’s no training or something like that, after all, there’s not much you can teach when you’re fighting death eaters, the most important thing you should do when fighting them is use your most lethal spell and think about the rest later, surviving is your top priority.

“And to end the tour… These are the rooms where most of us stay, wanna see my room?” She asked with a flustered expression.

Harry raised a brow, interested to see what Hermione was planning. Suddenly, Sirius in his dog form started to bark, and Harry rolled his eyes.

“Sorry, pal, no dogs allowed,” Harry said before slamming the door in front of the dog and using a locking charm.

Hermione was surprised by his change of attitude, but she couldn’t help but grin. In Hermione’s opinion, Harry was a really interesting person, and the one she was crushing on a lot lately. She was now alone with him in her room. She thought Sirius would be there too, but now an opportunity of a lifetime has presented itself to her.

Many ideas were running through her head, Harry, on the other hand, couldn’t help but find her room kind of cute.
