Chapter #12: A talk with Daphne
Harry couldn’t believe he would be in this situation. He was in a private room at a high-class coffee shop that he would never have visited in his life. The prices were high for such simple servings; the cheesecake was okay, but too expensive, in his opinion. He knew he could get something like this in the muggle world for a third of the price of this.
“So… You’re going to say anything or what?” Asked the blonde with an annoyed expression.
“Yeah… This place looks fancy, and the food looks very cute, but… With the way it tastes, I think you're being robbed; I wouldn't pay for this on my own in a million years,” Harry couldn’t help but say in a sarcastic tone.
She slammed her hands on the table, but Harry didn’t even flinch.
“Potter… This is not a game. What you talked about in the hearing, my father was there, and he thought that you were going insane, and if the supposed hero of this world was going insane, then it doesn’t make sense to put our hopes on him,” she said in an angry tone.
Harry remained calm; he knew it wasn’t her fault. The situation of the world was already too difficult for him to snap and lose control of his emotions. He didn't like this woman at all, but he decided not to snap at her; it seemed like Hermione's attitude had been rubbing off on him lately.
“Come on, are you going to say anything or what?” She asked once again, annoyed.
“Yes… The aliens, they’re real, Daphne… They’re very real,” he confessed with a serious tone.
Daphne wasn’t clearly expecting that answer.
“You’re lying… You’re just playing around; you just want to get more attention, just like you used to do during our first years…” The blonde couldn’t help but gulp.
“Greengrass, I’m not going to lie to you… The situation is very fucked up. I thought it was nonsense at first. I mean, I know about UFOs and alien culture; I was raised in the Muggle world, for fuck's sake, but most people, me included, thought that was nothing but bullocks, inventions of people with too much free time, like the guys who make crop circles with tables and ropes,” Harry said with a serious tone.
Daphne was looking at him with a worried expression.
“I know it sounds crazy, but the one who told me everything was the head of your house, Professor Snape.” Harry’s words caught her by surprise.
She wanted to deny those claims. Snape was the hardest and most stubborn man she had ever met. She knew the man had done a lot in his life, but aliens and extraterrestrial life are things she never thought he would accept.
“Do you know where he is? I need to see him and speak to him personally about it, and if he told you everything, why wasn’t he with you when you gave your speech?” She questioned with a desperate tone.
“Because just like Voldemort… He was taken by them, and we don’t know where he is,” Harry’s words caught her by surprise.
“No… It can’t be,” Daphne couldn’t believe it.
She wasn’t a big fan of Snape; however, she liked the fact that the man always went straight to the point. He was efficient, something that Daphne appreciated a lot.
“Are you serious?” She couldn’t believe it.
“Yes, and as I mentioned, we have no idea of his whereabouts. Voldemort was killed by them, but we don’t know what’s going to be of Snape. Knowing him very well, we know he’s not going to test his luck, and he's going to try his best to survive, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to be merciful; not even Voldemort could do anything against them,” Harry said with a serious tone.
Daphne couldn’t believe what she had heard. If what Potter said was true, the world was truly in danger; there was nothing that could stop those things from conquering them.
However, Daphne was also thinking about the many things she wouldn’t be able to do if their planet got conquered- all the dreams, all the things she wanted to do, all the feats she wanted to achieve would never happen. The realization made her do something that took Harry by surprise; she decided to capture his lips in an intense kiss.
The dark-haired wizard was taken aback by the kiss; however, he quickly got in the mood and soon kissed her back as intensely as she was doing, or even more. The kiss was so intense and good that they couldn’t stop themselves from moaning, and it wasn’t until they felt the need to breathe that they stopped the kiss.
“Wow… That was,” Harry couldn’t help but say with a grin.
“I know,” She said happily, as satisfied as he was.
Harry was surprised by her intensity.
“Where did that come from?” He asked, amused.
There was a comfortable silence; it was clear that the blonde was a bit embarrassed about what she had just done, but she wasn’t regretting anything.
“Well, I was thinking of all the things that I was going to miss now that the world could end any of these days, and I also thought that you could be taken by them, so… I did something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time,” she declared with a shy tone.
Harry was surprised to hear those words. He couldn’t lie about it. Out of all the things she could say, that was the last one on his mind. He thought that she was going to apologize and call it a mistake, not that she was going to own it and even be happy about it.
“Wait a minute… You’ve been wanting to do that?” Asked the emerald-eyed wizard with a surprised expression.
She chuckled.
“Why are you surprised? You’re the best-looking wizard from our generation and also the most impressive out of them; if anything, I’m surprised there isn’t a line of witches already waiting for you,” she told him with a shy tone.
Harry couldn’t help but smile.
“I’m sorry; I was surprised by your words. I thought that you hated me,” Harry’s words surprised the blonde.
“Why would you think that?” She asked with her eyes wide open.
“Well, you’ve always acted so cold and indifferent towards my friends and me, and because of Slytherin culture of sticking around your friends… Well, I thought that you would hate me and everything I represent, just like your housemates do, and to be clear, I didn’t ask for all that; I just wanted to have a normal life,” he said with a sad expression.
“Harry… Can I call you Harry?” She asked, and he nodded. “While it’s true that we snakes stick around, we also plot, and we’re ready to stab and betray each other as long as it serves us,” she told him with a serious tone.
“Is that so?” He asked calmly.
“Yes… I was ready to risk it all this year for you, Harry, but well… You know more than I do how things are going,” she said with a sad tone.
Harry nodded. He couldn’t believe he would receive such a nice confession from the blonde, not that he was complaining, though; she was beautiful, and so he couldn’t stop himself as he got closer and closer to her.
They shared one last look, and she nodded at him, which soon caused their lips to join in a slower kiss. They didn’t know what the future had in store for them, but for now, they wanted to focus on the present.
