Hello everyone!

I know it's not technically December yet but a lot of us are starting to draw festive illustrations so I wanted to share this simple tutorial about how you can add a festive pattern to virtually anything.

No doubt you'll be drawing a few scarves, jumpers and maybe some stockings or baubles over the next month, and being able to draw beautiful patterns on top adds so much festivity and joy to them!

I actually drew this tutorial quite a while ago but I thought it deserved a permanent place here on Patreon, and I've also attached below a bauble tutorial from an old version of my advent calendar.

How To Add A Festive Pattern To Anything

You can make a festive pattern by layering together different rows of a few simple elements across the item that you're decorating.

I like to start with a foundation of different stripes in varying sizes and with varying gaps first, and then go back and layer in some of the more illustrative patterns and elements.

These are just a few pattern ideas that are common to find, but you can of course get creative and come up with your own too!

By layering up different rows of patterns, you can transform a regular item into a super cosy, festive one!

Something that I especially love to add patterns to is baubles, which make for lovely illustrations on their own or of course can be added to a Christmas tree illustration.

There are so many ways to customise your patterns so have fun and get creative with them. Maybe you could incorporate snowflakes, snowmen, plants or stars in your patterns 🎄❄️⭐

Download the pdf of the tutorial below along with a bauble tutorial too!

I love this! Such a niche topic but a crucial one☺️🩷
