Hello everyone,

My Creative Illustration Curriculum seems to be getting later and later in the month now that I'm also doing the Illustration Club - oops! Just complete the challenge in your own time if you're joining in 🥰

This month's focus is: exploring different ways to create a focal point in a landscape scene.

I explain the focus in more detail in the pdf guide that I've attached below 🌷

To help us explore this focus together, the art challenge for this month is to:

Draw a simple landscape scene with a clear focal point.

A focal point is a feature of an artwork that draws our attention the most - it’s the area that we want people to look at first.

Having a focal point tells the viewer what the most important part of the artwork is. The intention is that they’ll look there first, and from there look at other areas.

Without a focal point an artwork might feel a little flat or cluttered because the viewer doesn’t know where to look first, so this is a useful skill to learn as an artist.

For this month's challenge I’ll be drawing a hilly landscape with a little cottage and a path leading up to it. I think I’ll draw this one in my sketchbook with traditional art supplies rather than using my iPad.

I've made some video tutorials in the past that you might find helpful alongside this challenge:

How To Create An Interesting Composition

How To Draw Pretty Landscapes

I'll be filming my process of completing this activity next week, and sharing the real-time process without voiceover with all tiers, and a tutorial version with voiceover with Beautiful Bluebells.

Download below your PDF guide with some more information and an introduction to the topic.

And feel free to share your illustrations with us in the community chat here on Patreon!
