Hello again my lovely flowers!

Earlier in the month I drew this very happy flower with a rainbow behind them, and they were so fun and simple to draw that I thought they would make a good candidate for a little step-by-step tutorial.

You could customise this flower quite easily by changing the colour, the shape of the petals, or the background!

There are visual steps, and also accompanying written steps below, plus I've attached the images to this post as well in case you'd like to download them.

How To Draw A Very Happy Daisy:

To use as a guide for our shapes, draw two concentric circles (one large, and one much smaller in the centre), and from the inner circle draw a curved line down and slightly to the side.

Draw over the middle circle and add a very happy face in the middle of it with two eyes and a smile (or you can customise the expression here!)

And roughly equal intervals, draw some lovely long petals that extend to the out circle of our guidelines we drew in step 1.

In the gaps between those petals, draw another row of petals that get slightly obscured by the front row.

Now draw a stem using the guideline we drew in step 1 as a reference. I like my stem to be coming out from between two petals.

Now we can draw a few leaves coming from the stem in two sets of two. They’re almost symmetrical but just different enough that it feels organic.

Let’s add some nice details, so draw a branch-like structure in the leaves with a line down the centre of each leaf and then some diagonal lines branching out from it. I also added some thin lines down the middle of each petal that don’t quite reach the end.

And that’s it! You can erase/delete the guidelines we drew in step 1 and admire your new flower!

How To Add Colour:

I like to add a big circle of colour to act as the background, especially because our flower will be white and it’ll help it stand out. You could fill your background completely rather than having a circle if you like!

Now colour in the petals white, the middle of the flower a vibrant yellow, and the stem green.

With our foundation of colour down, let’s add a few details like rosy cheeks (very important in my opinion!), some spots to the leaves and some spots around the face.

For shading, I took a light beige and coloured the bases of the petals and where they join to make it look like the back row are really behind the petals in front. I also shaded the stem in a darker green, focusing on the base of the leaves, the right hand side of the stem and where the stem meets the flower.

Finally, let’s add some life to the background! I’ve drawn a rainbow, some love hearts and some sparkles. So cute!

Drawing Without Outlines

If you’d like to draw your flower without the dark outline, then instead of colouring between the lines we can use the sketch as a reference.

If you’re using digital drawing software, on a new artboard take the outline we drew, make sure it’s all one layer, then bring the opacity of that layer down to around 20-25% and make it ‘multiply’ blend mode. Now it’s a see-through layer and you can draw your colours on layers underneath the sketch, using it as a reference for your colour drawing.

So that's how you draw a very happy flower! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and let me know if you draw your own version 🥰
