Oh, one of the classic of classics of Romance/War movies. Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, and Peter Lorre. I saw this movie when I was 12 years old.

Nicole Sherlock

What a treat!! Happy Saturday night everyone! 😊

Jay Rivera

Only the real ones will be here for this 👏 masterpiece, a huge pillar on the ground floor of cinema great choice.

Renee S

Here you have a movie set in Africa, there's only one brother, and he's from Detroit!

Delia Sewell

I believe the hats are called a fez.

Poopy McDoodooface

I'm going to keep it 💯 with you guys and be totally honest. I have tried watching this several times before in my life. I'm sure that it is every bit the masterpiece that I've always heard it is. Truthfully though, I have never been able to stay awake through the whole movie. I'll be even more honest and say that I'm lucky to make it past the first 45 minutes before I start snoring 😴 I'll give it another shot though. Happy Valentines Day 💝

Have seen this well over 100 times, Piano is 3/4 in size to make Bogart look bigger, notice at Train station 1 minute soaking wet next minute Bone dry.The song Sam was singing Shine was popular in the day but very racist.

John West

Many of the actors were actual Refugees from Europe.

Teri

Ok guys. I paid special just to watch it. I have never watched it. I know it's a classic but for some reason I never watched it. Another Humphrey Bogart movie, also a classic, is "Treasures of the Sierra Madre. Gooood movie. I did see "Treasures of The Sierra Madre" but it's been a while. Maybe you can check it out next time, hmmm?

JL Green

OMG, I had no idea you hadn't seen this 😳. With the exception one line (I'm sure you'll know what I mean when you see/hear it) I think this is one of the best Hollywood movies ever made.

John West

Laslo was a Leader in the Resistance against Nazi Germany.

OMG I opened my notifications to find Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid AND Casablanca?! You are too good to us!

Abel Salas Jr

Love Humphrey Bogart, 1 of my favorite leading men from the golden age of cinema. Other great performances of his include The Maltese Falcon, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, To Have and Have Not, The Big Sleep, Dark Passage, In A Lonely Place, and the Harder They Fall are some of my favorites but hes great in everything.

John West

Conrad Veidt, Major Strasser was a Fervent Anti Nazi,Supported and gave a Large amounts of money to the War effort against Germany.

John West

The Last line of the movie took 6 months to come up with.

John West

You just watched the Greatest movie ever made.

JL Green

The name of the hats that the men wore in the movie were called "Fez" or "Tarboosh" hats. Hope that answered your question Asia and BJ.

Not even close...it's Saving Private Ryan

I was excited to see this one! Definitely a favorite of mine. It's also a movie I appreciated even more on rewatch when I was older and had a more in-depth understanding of WW2. The 40s will always be one of my favorite eras in film. The style, music, cinematography. And there were lots of movies in the 40s about social causes and issues that felt ahead of the times.

Robin

Interesting choice for Valentines Day! Would love to have seen Pretty Woman!! 🥰

Excellent reaction. I really enjoyed it.

It was so wonderful to see you watch this incredibly great movie - you usually only do much more recent movies, but there are so many wonderful older ones that I'd love to see you react to. In 1998, the American Film Institute released its list of the 100 greatest movies of all time, and they ranked this as number 2 (number 1 was Citizen Kane, from 1941). In answer to some of your questions: 1. The tall hat you see people wearing is called a fez. 2. The symbol on Berger's ring is the Cross of Lorrain; because it looks like two F's back to back, it became the symbol of Free France, the French "government in exile" established in London to compete with Vichy's Nazi-approved puppet government of unoccupied France. 3. The word Americain in spelled that way because it's in French. 4. In the battle of the songs, while the French and their supporters are obviously singing the French national anthem, the studio had originally wanted the Germans to sing the Horst Wessel song, the official anthem of the Nazi party. But the problem was that the song was under copyright, and if the movie was to be shown in neutral countries, that meant that the studio would legally have to pay royalties to the Nazis, which was naturally out of the question. So instead they used the Wacht am Rhein, a patriotic German war song originating in the 19th century Franco-Prussian war, which became popular again with the German public during both world wars - but not with the Nazi party itself, which was not crazy about patriotic songs that weren't specifically and explicitly pro-Nazi (apart from the national anthem, which they were kind of stuck with). So in real life it's very unlikely that dedicated Nazis like Strasser and his men would have been singing the Wacht am Rhein, or anything else that old, but it's the best the studio could do. Incidentally, while the United States is clearly still a neutral country when this movie takes place, did you notice that Rick, while waiting in the bar for Ilsa, mentions that it's December 1941? That means that it has to be the first week of December, just days before Pearl Harbor.

Dan Gershgol

I have never seen this before. Always wanted to. I recognize all the famous lines. They have become part of pop culture.

Denise Rodriguez

I loved your reaction, guys. If you get a chance, “Random Harvest,”is an excellent movie. The part where the Germans start singing their National anthem & Lazlo gets everyone there, to sing their French anthem, is my favorite part of the movie.

Awesome!! Can’t wait to watch this one too! Thx for doing some classics!!

Yes, BJ, that is a famous, often-quoted line. There are quite a few of those in this movie, including the closing line from Rick to Louis. Here’s looking at you, kid. We’ll always have Paris. The problems of three little people don’t amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine. Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Katie Davis

Other great films with Humphrey Bogart: The Maltese Falcon The Big Sleep Sabrina (1954) with Audrey Hepburn The African Queen Key Largo (1948) To Have and Have Not

Katie Davis

Other good Ingrid Bergman films: Notorious! Spellbound (1945) Fear (1954) Indiscreet Gaslight (1944) Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941) The Bells of St. Mary's

Some of the most famous lines from Casablanca: Here's looking at you, kid. We'll always have Paris. Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine. Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. (You'll definitely hear/notice them in all kinds of other movies and pop culture references now.)

Black History Month "Uptown Saturday Night" (Bill Cosby, Sidney Poitier)

Jason Cooper

I've never seen this Classic..... This will be my first time watching it with you guys 😬

Mary Ann Morgan

I’ve heard it was most of the extras. And definitely Yvonne I think it was. But the big actors weren’t.

s8150f

Sidney Poitier doesn't get enough reactions from anybody. Lilies of the Field one of my favorite movies. Also In The Heat of the Night, A Raisin I'm the Sun, To Sir with Love, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, The Jackal and more. So many really good classic well done movies. I don't know why he doesn't get more recognition.

KimM

I agree about Sidney. Every movie he was in, I've enjoyed. He stole my heart when I first saw To Sir with Love way back when I was a teenager. He broke racial barriers in Hollywood and refused stereotypical roles and always demanded dignified parts. He was the first Black actor to win the Academy Award for Best Actor (Lilies of the Field, 1963).
