I totally agree about Horizon, Colin. I don’t understand how the games are not held in higher regard. Insane visuals and underrated sound, perfect controls, Aloy feels and moves great, really fun and deep combat, awesome original story, great side characters like Silas (very sad the voice actor passed RIP) , the pacing is spot on. I guess I get people don’t like Aloy, I personally do, she’s voiced well and i think the writers are consistent with how she acts considering the weight on her shoulders. But year idk, i find it strange how under appreciated these games seem to be. Maybe time will be kind to them and they will get their due

Horizon forbidden west is so damn good man. That gameplay loop is fun as hell, exploration is rewarded and the story is top tier. Without spoiling any of it, I didn’t see the angle they went with coming at all. I’m excited to see where the third one goes, my only wish is they go with a “less is more” approach to their open world, similar to how ghost of Tsushima handles it vs the way a Ubisoft open world tends to be handled.

Hey Colin, on Eiyuden, I think we played rpgs very similar maybe til 30, 42 now. I can see the leveling everyone up equally but getting them all gear is kinda nuts lol. I’m 35%, just found Perry, and I’m broke outfitting maybe 8 guys. Try to rotate armor and if you can handle it, wait til the end to start lvling everyone up. I hear it’s got a new game+ mode as well. I kinda am pulling for this game but this isn’t ff7 rebirth and it isn’t a wonder you’re getting burnt out. Brad, I don’t think this is a step down from suikoden games. You could easily put it anywhere and could easily call it a suikoden game. Great episode, take it easy guys

Horizon I really enjoy, let's be honest though. Aloy has no personality. I enjoy Horizon cause the combat and world is awesome. How dare Colin compare Aloy to Kratos, lol.

Man… Brad going on about Outlaws being pretty much okay and then saying it might be a 7.5 or an 8, is the perfect example of how the scoring system has become fucking useless lol. In my head Ghost of Tsushima was an 8, maybe a 9…. There’s no way Outlaws is anywhere near its level.

The Rose Experience

Eiyuden’s pacing is disastrous. It has so much going for it but there are these things, obvious things that hold it back. The translation is abhorrent, the way the main story is laid out in terms of travelling places and then how certain areas are just blocked in the most in creative ways. The characters are just tossed together lacking all the charm and ingenuity that made the huge Suikoden cast interesting and work. Even building the city, I mostly felt nothing as the game does a poor job getting players invested. I think every long time RPG fan seems Eiyuden Chronicles Hundred Heroes and wants to love it, but it just doesn’t want you to. As Brad says, it’s a readily apparent step down from the franchise it’s trying to be but it didn’t have to be this way.

Col, Kratos doesn’t suck. He’s awesome. I like Horizon but Aloy isn’t anywhere near Kratos. Stand down. That Concord write-in was pure cringe. Col, I’ve never heard anyone ever say they hated Treyarch. Even when World at War came out, people like Matty liked the multiplayer, and everybody loved Zombies. Trails has better combat than Persona? CHILLLLLLL.

I think Chris summed Horizon up best when he said it just gets in its own way too much. I love the combat and the process of tearing machine parts off, even the overarching plot is pretty cool, but I couldn't give less of a shit about the open world and the characters. I also think the visuals, while technically great, are too busy to a point where not enough stands out. If you made a more linear mission-based game like Armoured Core in the decima engine I'd be here for it.
