Dustin is still roaming aimlessly around Japan (he'll be back next week), and the news has been slow in our beloved industry, leaving me (Colin) and Chris up to our own devices. And yet, there are still a few interesting tidbits to discuss. For starters, PS5's Astro Bot is getting weekly -- and totally free -- content over the next month-plus, while the Until Dawn film has been given an April '25 release date for its arrival in theaters as rumors surrounding a sequel to the 2015 game continue to percolate. Plus: Helldivers 2 received another major update, Sony revealed an in-person PlayStation concert series, Dino Crisis is locked to PS+ Premium for some reason, and Bandai Namco is reportedly exploring headcount reductions leveraging a shady Japanese corporate tradition: Oidashibeya, an evolution of another tactic called madogiwazoku. Listener inquiries tie things up on the back end, per usual. If Donald Trump wins the presidency, will gaming consoles in America be strapped with a tariff? Are we amped about the revival of the long-dormant and once-popular Backyard Sports series? Could Metaphor: ReFantazio appeal to JRPG fans that don't like Persona? Will Colin ever wake up after being put to sleep by a Dragon Age: The Veilguard-related question?

Oh my god not even 3 hours! Are you guys okay?

Zack

As someone who's been self recording music for like, 12 years now, that one mic set up picks up your drums so well. Would use those sounds in a song

Michael Welter

Didn't break 3 hrs. Dustin please we need to you here to yammer on!

King Dad operating the Trap door to Hell

Pure was really good. I ended up buying an old pc code g ft or 40 bucks and it took a lot of extra steps to even get it to work but it was worth it. Other than that the only way to play it is through emulation or having the original consoles which are pushing 2 decades at this point.

Vanzant

Come on Colin. The display options are not that complicated. They show you an image with 3 sliders that you can see the effects in real time.

Jose Horrach

The "what are we playing timestamp" is super wrong

Diddy’s Dong Quest

Second time recently Colin said “modern hip hop is trash”. Cmon man, you’re better than that cringe ass take. It’s like when mid 40s dudes say “gaming isn’t fun anymore”. Kendrick Lamar’s discography, the last 3 Tyler the Creator albums, 4 your eyez only by J Cole. All good starting points. There IS a lot of garbage fluff, but the same can be said about any genre 🤣

Zack

Also also. Insomniac is easily one of Green Day's best. Billie and Mike were addicted as fuck to meth. Famously, they don't play the panic song live because it's too hard to nail when you aren't rolling on meth.

Tristan Kimball

Damn Colin you fucking rock on the drums lol that sounded good!

Jacob Lesperance

Less than 3 hrs!!! Patron membership canceled!!! I kid. Just don't let it happen again.

Lemonworld

Shout out to the early aughts NHL soundtracks

Chris Smith

I like how even though todays show is longer than 99% of podcasts out there, we’re all taken back by how short it is relative to the typical SS show xD

Derek Alcott

Colin, there is probably an issue with your tv. I have an LG Oled CX 48" tv and some games would look weird. Ghost of Tsushima for example had a look of "burn in". I had to jump through hoops and eventually get LG to send out a tec to fix it. He had to take it apart and send a part of the tv back to LG. It not works great since he got the new part.

theBlairMitchProject

Appreciate you guys reading my question! To answer your speculation on my age, I'm actually 31, lol.

Justin Marxer

Jeeze, thanks guys. I haven’t had the desire to listen to Greenday in years, but now I feel like I have to again.

Brandon V

Bloober Team should 100% be given a new Silent Hill, to say otherwise at this point is just laughable. B-b-but tHe mEdiUm!?! Oh, shut up, they nailed it just give them their fucking props instead of continually coping because you were dead wrong about their talent level.

Supes

Colin's response to the Dragon Age/fantasy games write-in had me fucking dying. I enjoy the occasional fantasy story from time to time, but there is almost nothing funnier than making fun of fantasy nerds.

HardyPilgrim

The video circulating about Trump “banning” video games is from 2019, not this election cycle. The speech is in response to two school shootings and he’s speaking about reducing the glorification of violence. He didn’t call for a ban on video games. Xenomorph Moriarty

I agree with Chris’ point about fantasy all being pretty similar but to say Dead Space and Alien are wildly different is a lil absurd

Big Devin Energy

Chris - why can’t you just COOK YOURSELF FOOD! You always just eat out lol. And Colin - TAKE CARE OF YOUR OWN LAWN. 😂 these man children haha.

Dustin's furry little wheener

I think Colin really needs to adjust the HDR settings in-game. If he's unsure what values to use, he can easily look it up on Google or Reddit. I know it can be a bit annoying, but I did the same for my OLED, and the difference was immediate and significant. Of course, he could also wait for the PS5 Pro to come out, and then decide if the settings need tweaking or not. Either way, he'll be playing the best version. This game is incredible - just finished it, and it's truly a masterpiece!

NeO JD

Never played Backyard Baseball but I did play MLB Slugfest again and it wasn’t as good as I remembered. Just ok. It’d be interesting to see what SD Studio would do with something like that.

Joseph Gedgaudas

Hearing how often the LSM crew says a game is unplayable because of the graphics or framerates makes me so glad I don't notice that stuff.

Joshua Seymour

I think Colin and I might have the same tv. The LG CX. I use a YouTube channel called Gaming Tech for setting for specific games. He also has videos talking about how to tweak the tv in general. I know it's not your thing Colin to care all that much about graphics BUT with a super nice OLED like the CX, it's absolutely worth taking some time to set it up. Proper HDR will make your weewee vibrate. The newer God Of War games and the Spiderman games have top notch hdr. So does Ghost of Tsushima

Envydiel

Colin wondering what he's going to do as he gets older, and pining for the days of playing with toys... I hate to say it dude, having kids hits both those birds 😎. I'm playing blocks with my son as I listen to sacred symbols on the TV.

Ryan

You’d think Chris has 2 kids and a wife with a part time job on the side with how little time he has to play games 😂👀

Michael Rogers

I would rather hear any of Colin's stories a million more times than ever have to hear about his Bluetooth sprinklers, grass seeding, or sweeping the street again. I'm never closer to suicide than when I'm hearing about his landscaping.

MisanthropicAltruist

Vagrant Story is one of those 3D PS1 era games that still looks beautiful today. Good art direction is a youth serum for video games.

Gray

Does anyone think the Colin needs someone to check his TV settings and/or his PlayStation video settings in the system menu? When I got my LG oled I did a lot of research making sure all the settings were optimal.

Faan

Regarding the question about documentaries or gaming documentaries, some topics came to my mind: the success of Fez and the sudden cancellation of its sequel, Fez 2, Naughty Dog's shift in the PS3/PS4 generations and Amy Hennig's exit, as well as obviously the Konami/Kojima drama. Would love to see an actual documentary on these subjects. But I doubt we'd see actual info come out on the latter topics, seeing as how secretive corporations are (especially Konami). I like seeing documentaries that follow the making of a game - Respawn's Jedi: Fallen Order documentary was good, as well as Naughty Dog's documentaries on The Last of Us, but, at the same time, these docs are obviously biased and kind of appear as puff pieces.

Greg McDonald

Insomniac being Green Day's best album is honestly Chris' best take ever

Dylbun

I’m with you on silent hill 2 Colin. The game is sparkly as hell, there’s constant frame drops when entering new areas, and there’s artifacting every time you orbit the camera around James. And speaking of the camera, I find it mega distracting, like James is constantly in the way of what I’m trying to look at. It’s zoomed in too close when outside and zoomed out too much when inside. Both of these issues combined make the game almost unplayable for me tbh.

Matt Wiles

The white outline issue; everyone has it but most don’t ’see it’. You just notice it more. But also, of course, make sure your TV is setup using the RTings advised settings (go to the website). Also! Put HDR mid level up on Silent Hill. That’s it.

Michael Candelaria

From a Silent Hill fan perspective. SH 1, 2, and 3 are fantastic. Silent Hill 4 is a game that has some cool ideas but never felt like a a true SH game. Silent Hill Origins is fantastic but screws up the timeline and characters we grew so fond of. Everything after that is way below average when it comes to being apart or the franchise with the exception of Shattered Memories, that was a very interesting take on rebooting the original story. These are just my opinions of course but I would love to see really detailed remakes of 1, 3, and Origins. Specifically if they unfuck the changes to Alessa in Orogins

Manuel Nascimento

Concerning the "sparkling" and "flickering" Colin and other have been noticing in games such as Alan Wake 2 and Silent Hill 2, that is just a consequence of how modern engines ray traced lightning (Lumen is called on UE5) even when there is no specific hardware acceleration for it (like you'd see in an RTX graphics card on PC). It's not just you Colin, it exists - some people may be more sensitive than others on it. Simply put, the engine casts some rays in directions repeatedly to see how shadows and reflections go, but since the PS5 has comparatively lower performance capabilities (compared to, say, an RTX 4090), there aren't enough rays for the coverage to be smooth. So, one frame some pixel might be hit, next one it's not, and over time it gives an effect of "grain" or "sparkling" or "noise". This also happens on PC if you set raytracing qualities to low. This is the kind of thing PS5 Pro is hoping to address with the PSSR upscaler and the increased render and raytracing capabilities. Ray Tracing is, in general, very taxing on any system, but it's a modern feature so they put it in games even if results in these issues in particular on the 60FPS modes - the PS5 is just powerful enough to do all the things at the same time.

Andrew Walsh

I’m only sharing this thought because I know if it was me, I’d like someone to tell me. But the amount of “yah know” and “you know what I mean” have gotten out of control! Lol I blame Gene for this as he’s the first person I noticed say “you know” a lot but I think he’s infected the rest of the team hahaha

Greg McDonald

Brits can definitely tell between a New York and Boston accent lol, you guys are just ignorant (as you suspected). Chris' Molyneux impression did crack me up though 😂

SmilingPeach

About not having YouTube premium, it's a principle thing for me. Most of the content creators I watch are constantly demonitized for simple things like saying "knife" or "kill" in the first 10 mins, or getting flagged and not getting a reason why even with a YouTube agent. They bumped the price and free users are automatically flooded with 5X the adds, which are double adds that you cant skip sometimes, and now they are talking about possibly doing IP based anti addblocker. And finally, it just feels kinda scummy to pay to get rid of adds YouTube is already getting paid for to host on their platform. Just throwing out a perspective of a non premium member hope you guys have a great week!

Gabriel Baker

CHRIS YES! PURE WAS SUCH A GOOD FUCKING GAME

Gooch Gobbler

Sci-Fi is so much more boring and predictable than fantasy imo. Oh let me guess, another AI gone crazy and we're going to talk about robot abuse? Someone get stuck in cryosleep? Some boring ass, metallic spaceship? Yeah sure bud. So unique

Antony

I hear you guys regarding Metaphor ReFantazio and Atlus games in general. Perhaps they’re in fact just not for me as you say, I just thought that by trying them I’d find something, or something would hit, considering the overwhelming majority of people who enjoy them. I know to leave well alone Atlus games now I guess. Cheers guys. Considering the lack of news I can listen to you all talk bollocks for hours, so great show. Antony

Bailey Callis

It's not that youtube premium is good, they simply just ruined and destroyed the regular version.

Bartevious

Colin’s music takes are growing increasingly abhorrent. Jizzes over 2000s metal rap and shits on OutKast. I seriously can’t get over this OutKast thing. It’s haunted me for weeks. No one in hip hop has started their career out with arguably 4 straight classic records in Southernplayalistic (a bit more underground than the rest of the catalogue) through ATLiens, Aquemini, and Stankonia. Despite being a white man from the midwest this is a slap in the face to hip hop that I cannot stand for. The south got sum 2 say.

Victor Melchor

I love them making fun of the classic fantasy games at the beginning. It’s even funnier cause I play them.

Ahlickaloo

Chris’s impressions are my favorite

Aaron

Dude NFS HP 2 soundtrack is awesome! Buzzhorn-Ordinary is so good!
