Damn, I've never known anyone else who loved FF8 as much as me. I just loved that game so much. The school setting, characters, best music of any FF ever. The only flaw, and its a big one, is the level scaling which was a terrible idea and has tainted the game since it came out. Good taste Ben.

I love ff8 as well. The common critisms are usually from ignorance I find. If you don't like drawing, you literally never have to with card mod, except for GFs. If you don't like junctioning, just use the auto button. If you don't like level scaling, ignore it? The scaling is no different to just finding harder mobs as you level in any other game, you're never going to hit a wall, I beat the game when I was 10, surely you can figure it out. If you thought the memory loss came out of no where, you weren't paying attention. There's sign posting all over disc 1 that GFs are causing memory loss.

Oblivion green-gate is lost on me. I never played the original. I have no idea why all these people are complaining that the grass isn't green enough. Sounds pretty silly from the outside.

Funny at first I was like is this a bit that he talks like Clive - probably his biggest character. Then I realized how much his Clive performance sounds mostly like himself if that makes sense? Fun having him on the show!

There's one thing word Gene says that would spoil something big if you paid attention. Most ppl probably won't pick it up. Apart from that the episode is safe.

Ben Starr’s idea of a TV show turned JRPG reminded me of my 2nd time watching Sunset Limited and thinking, oddly enough, what if this was a dialogue driven title (ex. Life is Strange) within the confines of a small room? I understand how choices could change the ultimate point of Sunset Limited, but I mean it as more of a blueprint (something to bounce off of). I’m thinking a 5-10 hr. playthrough MAX (like Journey, you’ll never recapture the 1st experience).

I am a B**** of anime & anime games, as Dustin detailed. Lol, not offended at all, I get that my preference goes against the ‘classics’. Never cared for DBZ and Dragon Quest (the former has poor animation and the later has gameplay that is too honorable of the origin of the genre). Exception being DQ Builders! 🫡 I do look forward to playing Astral Chain (backlog) and watching Lazarus now, so I got some nerdy DNA, just maybe not the same strain as Dustin.

I like you Gene. But you can't possibly think I'm alone with this criticism. And if your response is to be a dick to us rather than adjust your tact, you're going to lose Last Stand listeners. Not threatening to leave myself, just saying. It's problematic. You were three seconds into the episode dude. Maybe save it for the spoiler section. You think everyone tuning in to hear from Ben has beaten the game? It came out a week ago. If you think everyone who has a problem with your tolerance for what constitutes a spoiler, or perhaps just everyone who exists in this audience period, is automatically mentally ill.. then I don't know what to tell you. I know it's a staple of a good JRPG to have an optional boss at the end. But that just makes me excited at the prospect of it. Like I can't wait to get to that point to see for myself. Having you blurt it out like that is not fun at all. It's not cool to receive the news that way. It's selfish of you to do it as often as you do, and if you're going to presume mental illness in response to a little critique then it's you that has problems.

I get that you feel snakebitten man. You've spent a lot of your life as a public facing figure, been super active on Twitter, etc. you're used to people coming at you for nonsense. But me saying it was a spoiler to call out the "secret super boss" within a few seconds of the episode starting was not nothing. I'm not making things up, and I don't have a problem. Nor do I have a mental illness, not that there'd anything wrong with it if I did. The three main Sacred hosts conduct themselves with a lot of care so as not to dole out info about games that their audience may want to experience for themselves. You'd think that you'd show the same courtesy, both to the audience that they built for you, and to them for giving you a platform, by just showing a little care. And not fleecing those of us who provide feedback stating that we're unhappy about your phraseology. Expedition 33 is the best game I've played since Elden Ring dude. I'm head over heels playing it. And I really was upset to have you drop that info with absolutely zero warning.

I'll very happily come back to this episode once I've completed this incredible journey so that I can hear you guys discuss. I do genuinely appreciate you as a host, and so I'm sorry for coming at you like that. I think my being bummed out was more a product of my love for this game than it was an equivalent reaction to the simple detail you dropped.
