Hearing the mom conversation makes me wish that I had a relationship with my mom. No contact is the best option because she’s so toxic. My dad has also been gone for almost 13 years because of alcohol abuse that turned into drug abuse. Being only 34 and the fact that this is my situation, makes want to say make sure you stay diligent in maintaining healthy relationships with your parents if they’re still here. Those relationships are so important.

I really appreciate you sharing this. Being very low contact with my mom, it is absolutely not easy and few people in my life truly understand the feeling of having a severed bond with their mother. I hope you aren't too hard on yourself, it's easy to feel guilty doing what's best for our own mental health. -Micah

Colin’s take on growing up a child of divorce made me think about my own experience. I was a little older when it happened, but it definitely shaped me, made me more cynical and really strained my relationship with my mother. The way I’ve dealt with it is by focusing on my own family, giving my own children the stability I didn’t have. I hope Colin gets there too. Instead of dwelling on what could have been or watching those picture-perfect families from the outside, there's real meaning in building your own and doing for your kids what you wish you had had.

Hey Micah, I appreciate the kind words and you’re right, not many people really do and thankfully I’m at peace with it. After years and years of gaslighting, being disrespectful and narcissism, it was time to move on.

Really appreciated hearing Colin’s input on this matter. It’s always so opening to hear someone’s take on the selfishness of divorce and the effect it has on family members. As someone growing up in a household where so much younger, I had wished my parents truly split, as I thought the alternative would’ve been easier for all of us. Now, I feel growing up I land more so in the middle, but it’s nothing that matters anymore. I am where I am, and I took the lessons I needed to and move foreword. A lot like Colin, there is still a resentment for how my parents treated each other and myself in front of me and others, but I believe it makes me know truly what I should seek in life. I always appreciate Colin being as open as he can with things like this. Loved this episode you guys.

I almost didn't make it through this episode. Colin sharing his feelings on his mum and the divorce, then Chris saying how the age at which it happened probably makes it worse. I'm not ashamed to share that this nearly caused me to break down in public on my morning walk. My own parents separated when I was 6 and a half, it was not pretty, and sent me spiralling in ways I'm still discovering today. I could feel almost 40 years of my own pain bubbling up as I listened. This resonated with me harder than anything I've heard on Constellation in the past. It was hard to hear, but it also helped me to hear similar perspectives. Thank you.
