The Last of Us (HBO) Review Discussion and Spoilercast (S2, E5) | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 453

As we make our way into the back-end of The Last of Us' seven episode second season on HBO, the action begins to ratchet up. As Ellie and Dina sneak through WLF-occupied Seattle, the Wolves fight their own war with the religious cult called The Seraphites. Meanwhile, Ellie's pursuit of Abby brings her ever-so-closer to her target, as she catches up with Nora, whose actor has a very special connection to Naughty Dog's next game. How do we feel things are shaping up? Where do we think everything will go? Let's get into the nitty-gritty, shall we?

Didn’t believe Colin when mentioned gas only lasts 6 months but looked it up and he’s right…crazy because my gas can in the garage for my lawnmower has been around much longer and still works when I fill it up

On the question of gasoline in Mad Max specifically, an active oil refinery is key to the plot of Road Warrior and “Gas Town” (another large refinery with a settlement around it) features in Fury Road and Furiosa. So the answer is they are actively making gasoline in that world.

I've liked the show so far but it definitely doesn't capture the completely oppressive bleak depressing gritty tone that part 2 had. I think they are trying to make Ellie more quirky and likeable for some reason even though she's supposed to be completely blinded by revenge and hate. Some CW level writing at points

Gas with ethanol goes bad much faster. If you put a fuel stabilizer in it, it will last at least a year or so.

Bella Lightyear was just okay

We can all agree that next season is going to be Abby season? Thank you for continuous great content ♥️

It's wild to admit, but I'm having fun with this season. Season 1 was stronger overall, but I feel like it spent less time with Joel and Ellie than I would have liked. S2 feels focused, whilst also expanding some key parts of the story. I didn't love the horde raid in episode 2, even though it was engaging action, but the rest of these episodes have had me hooked. Ramsey's portrayal of Ellie is questionable, for sure, but when she gets serious, it works for me. Thanks, as always, for your discussion about the series.

JUST finished this episode, and it was a slow burn, but ended up pretty satisfying. Also props to Ramsey, by the end of this episode, I found her more convincing than most of this season so far. Excited to listen to this one!
