Hello my fellow Dukes of the Wasteland! Loved the Duke/Sacred cross episode, since completing it I have had a thought rattling around in my head: Microsoft nails live-service but can’t deliver standout singlet player. Sony nails single player but can’t get a liver service rhythm off the ground. Two wildly opposite strategies, same destination: skyrocketing budgets, endless dev cycles, and a market that isn’t growing fast enough to keep up. So what is the real solution? Because everything - time, money, player patience - boils down to cost. Is there actually a path forward where the industry beats this mutant of its own making, and finally overcome this cost beast? Take care and have a Nuke Cola on me when I see you in Wasteland in the next year.

Blessed Day Dukes, In the sea of the complete mess that is the gaming industry, there was the Steam Next Fest! A lot of great games, like Scott Pilgrim EX and The Eternal Life of Goldman, were playable. Did you guys try anything out? And if so, what were your highlights? Have a 'I guess Highguard really was Concord 2 after all' kind of day.

What’s up dongerous dukes! It’s clear that Microsoft’s strategy to pursue third party publishing and non-exclusive games is diametrically opposed to success for Xbox. Given all the changes and, maybe, everything being on the table - do you see a scenario where Microsoft sells the Xbox brand and perhaps some key first party games? Who could be a buyer - Apple, Google — SEGA? Cheers from Brazil

Well dukes the inevitable has happened rather prematurely! In regards to high guard shutting down something feels off. They stated before launch they had an entire years worth of content ready to go and didn't need a huge player base to keep it going. While it wasn't the break through success they wanted it had a small steady player base and they're just giving up after not even two months?! If this content was ready to go as they previously claimed why not simply release it all at once to try and bring more people in? What kind of numbers did they need to hit their "small dedicated player base" they mentioned? For a small passionate indie team they sure didn't seem to have much faith their product.

Hello DUKES, I’m not sure if you’re gonna cover this but I thought I ask. Matty, I saw your live stream yesterday and you were talking about the rumoured god of war spin off. You said it was a bit of IP milking but I wanted to make a counter to that. Most of the IPs you like (not fallout, sorry) like Trails or Resident Evil are yearly releases or are rumoured to release yearly till 2029. Why is that not considered IP milking with the god of war game is? This isn’t meant to be mean but I thought it would be an interesting conversation. Anyway, have a great day gentlemen and I think RE9 Leon is making me a bit gay.

What’s up Dukes! I completely forgot to write in about this last week. Here’s what I think Asha means when she says they are bringing it back and focus on Console. GamePass: If it truly has to go, remove day 1 games. Substitute by adding WoW, Fallout 1st and Black Cell in COD. Also, make it clear that their games will be on GamePass 6 months after release. Exclusives: Everything they own should be timed exclusive on the Xbox App on PC and Xbox console when they drop. They should play on the fomo and would give a good reason why ppl should play on their platform. For most games, release them everywhere a year or two later. Don’t even announce other platforms in their directs or Xbox Wire, Let the other platforms announce it themselves. Bigger games like COD, ES6, Fallout etc. Make them 1 or 2 weeks timed exclusive to Xbox App/Xbox, then release everywhere else. Here’s their new tag line “Play it First on Xbox” (Im sure King would like that one 😆) Console: move forward with the hybrid console and full screen experience. I just got a Xbox Ally X last weekend and I love this thing. (I am also the one who wrote in about my Paragon/Renegade predicament with the Ally. I took her out for a steak dinner, then bought it. It worked out!). I am emulating my old PS1 and PS2 games on there and it’s amazing. This hybrid plan should definitely be their consoles moving forward. That’s it, that’s how they can save themselves. Tell Asha to hire me 😝. If they try that and it STILL doesn’t work, shut it all down, Xbox is really dead dead. 😆 Love you guys, keep up the amazing work!

Hello Dukes, now PS is going back hard to their exclusive era.. What would be Xbox position now? Do you think they follow course not like day and date but maybe a 1 year exclusively (excluding live-services like CoD, WoW etc..) i think nowadays exclusives are more important than ever if you want people to continue to interact to your store and services.. if you don't have anything to differentiate from the rest then, what's the point

Hey dukes. I don’t know if this will be covered here but can we be for real for real no cap about these studios holding their IPs hostage. I’m of course referring to blue point being shut down because from soft didn’t want them remaking bloodbourne and apparently even internal PlayStation studios treating them similarly. I can understand Miyazaki feeling territorial but I don’t want a blood Bourne remake from him….. I would want a bloodbourne SEQUEL. Not to mention he’s clearly not doing a remake anytime soon. And what about Sony Santa Monica? Are they really remaking the Greek trilogy THEMSELVES?? What a ridiculous waste of resources when you had a remake studio that could’ve done it. Herman really needed to grow some balls and tell Miyazaki and Santa Monica to take a hike. Am I off base and anti artist? Anyways, have a Todd Howard let someone else make fallout no fallout 76 doesn’t count and you know that kind of day.

Greetings Dukes, With books becoming a more frequent topic on the show, I wanted to recommend the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. The series revolves around an intergalactic game show that features Carl and his companions gathering loot to stay alive across the 18 level dungeon. It features quite a few video game tropes, like loot boxes, boss fights, and a battle royale feel to the whole series. Underneath the comedy is a lot of great character moments, and it’s a series I think both of you would enjoy! Have a “My eyes hurt from playing RE9 too much” kind of day.
