Waiting Like the Stalking Butler | Sacred Symbols, Episode 405

We're in the midst of a promising month of releases on PlayStation 5, and our patience is finally about to be rewarded. For starters, Housemarque's first party third-person shooter Saros has gone gold. So, too, has Capcom's beleaguered (yet incredibly promising) Pragmata, which was first revealed in 2020 for a 2022 release. Starfield's and Hades II's PS5 debuts, Mouse: PI For Hire's launch, the Konami-published Darwin's Paradox, the undoubtedly addictive Vampire Crawlers, and much more have us asking: When are we supposed to find the time to play all of this? It's a good problem to have! Plus: Sony purchases British machine learning firm Cinemersive Labs, Neil Druckmann teases the future of The Last of Us, Stellar Blade developer Shift Up buys Shinji Mikami's new studio outright, Disney executives are apparently interested in acquiring Epic, MindsEye's bizarre drama gets even weirder, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What's the status of Fairgames? Are there any Life Is Strange fans in the LSM crew? Should gaming be more accessible to the poor? Is it possible that the Artemis II astronauts will listen to this episode of the show while en route to the moon? A new episode of Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast launches each Friday morning. Anyone else think that Dustin's One Piece toy was Macho Man at first?

I gotta give a shoutout to PSSR 2. I've been playing Alan Wake 2 and it is very noticeably better with PSSR 2.

Coming from someone who works in a job that will most likely be replaced by AI in the next 10-20 years. I'm all for it. It's inevitable, it will happen. I'm better than 99% of people who do my job so I'll likely be last to go but I have 2 kids, and a wife so why am I not worried about AI? I'll adapt, I'll change. I'll be alright. As long as I'm breathing my family won't have to worry about most things. Life's an adventure man this whole AI revolution is just another chapter we get to see play out. I look at it like in the last 2000 years, our Leisure Time to Work Time ratio has gone from 80+% work in 1000 AD, to like 33% work 66% leisure in 2026, if not more leisure than that. In the next 100 years it'll probably shrink to 5% Work 95% leisure. What a time to be alive.

I believe he named a trophy after Sober by Tool in Twin Breakers If I remember correctly

Colin understood Romero's quote wrongly. He did not mean that it will happen AGAIN the same way, but how the landscape video games looks for teams who want to make money on video games. Numerous times Colin mentioned how easy it was to make money on games in the Carmack/Romero days, in comparison to now. So no, he is not wrong about the feel of the industry. It is a different kind of collapse. I know Colin doesn't read this comment, but maybe some listeners would like to educate themselves - please ready the slides from Matthew Ball, "The State of Video Gaming in 2026."
