INCOMING MESSAGE FROM LAST STAND MEDIA

It’s been 30 long years. Now, Bungie’s classic Marathon series returns in the form of a brand new hardcore PvPvE extraction shooter. After all this time in cryostasis, what’s the verdict on Marathon’s resurgence? Is this an international sensation like Arc Raiders? Is it a colossal failure like the ill fated Concord? From an exciting and striking initial reveal teaser, to an art theft scandal, to a critically panned alpha, to a slew of 9/10 reviews. Nothing about Marathon (2026) is simple. True to the mindbending narrative and complexity of its foundational titles, even something as straightforward as the game's basic reception is complicated. Some believe this new Marathon title to be a design masterwork with an inspiring generational art style. Definitive proof that Bungie, despite tumultuous development, bad press, and decades of shifting staff and evolution, still has the secret sauce that made Halo such a beloved juggernaut at the turn of the century. Others see an overpaid studio building an ugly mess of unapproachable systems and crushing difficulty. Doomed to die in an exclusionary hardcore niche of its own making. Somewhere in the heavens, the verdict is waiting.

Nice description!

Seriously. Well done.

Gus

Yeah, I don't normally come to the comments but I am now specifically to glaze the description

That description turned me the fuck on

Just got off another 4 hour session from morning to right now this is perfect for my run

Hoeg not sure if you read these comments, but quick tip, those head/body/leg implants don’t actually have the same picture. They highlight the different body parts, and they’re actually color coded too. So like the head implants is a red head, body is an orange body, legs is yellow legs I thought the same as you at first; but once I figured this out I can tell them at an instant now. Although I do agree they should be even more distinct.

S-tier episode description.

Christopher hosted the shit outta this one

Chris’s passion for this game has convinced me to bite the bullet and buy it. Update: It’s fucking awesome.

I'm having an absolute blast with this game, and I didn't expect to say that at all - I've never played an extraction shooter before, or even a Bungie game for that matter. I do like the occasional multiplayer shooter, but with all the talk in the build up, I wasn't sure if this would be a game for me. I even tried the server slam and it didn't vibe at all (granted I only put in a couple hours as it was a busy weekend). But after launch with all the discussions I decided to give it another go - and after the first few hours the loop just clicked for me. 50 hours in now and still constantly learning new things. Now, I'm still a very casual player - only got out of Cryo once out of a handful of attempts, and the only gold loot I have is an attachment I can't even use lol. There are some nights where I feel good and regularly killing runners and exfiling more often than not - but then there are stretches where my team just gets destroyed and you see the real skill gap that exists lol. Regardless, the game has this addicting quality that makes you want to keep jumping back in. Really glad I gave it a go

Well done hosting Bradley! The other three Bradley's were also great.

I have a proposal to help the diminishing player numbers. Marathon is a hardcore game and not very casual friendly. Combating this, in almost every case, would require Bungie to completely ruin what makes it so unique, like a PVE only mode for example. However, I think there is something they can do. What if they introduced PVE through faction contracts? CyberAcme is a “jack of all trades” corporation (anything you do will grand XP), Arachne is interested in how runners interact with other runners (PVP focused), etc. NuCaloric is interested in what happened to this human colony on Tau Ceti IV, and Traxus is interested in recouping their losses from their investment into the Marathon ship. What if when you ran contracts for NuCaloric or Traxus, they were PVE only? It has in world lore to support it, allows casual players to explore and uncover the secrets of this super interesting world Bungie has crafted, and attracts more casual players to the game to “sharpen their teeth” while not risking too much. Obviously, any contract from any other faction will feature the full experience of Marathon. It’s the best I can think of to help player numbers, but I would love to hear what you guys think. Anything I overlooked?

PODCAST WILL MAKE ME GOD!

Dope description. Dope discussions. Well done LSM. This game is underrated and I think I like it that way.

Big Booty Latinas Can Stay

1.) Go back to the drawing board on the onboarding experience and create the best one ever. 2.) Re-launch as free-to-play but with actually good battlepass rewards. It’s the only way.

Sucking Duck for Quack

Agree with the first, not the second. F2P would make the game an MTX hell. Helldivers 2 and Arc Raiders proved you could make a successful live service while also charging for the base game. Free to play would be the worst possible thing for this game.

Thank you Chris for reading my write in. I've never written in to the show despite being a patron since the very beginning. This game brings a different kind of passion out of me that you clearly seem to also have based on your streams and your discussions on the various shows. Keep up the good work!

Is John Pork the best player to ever put on the Allegheny Hogs jersey?

Mike the Person

Yo Rick- if you want to truly start enjoying Crimson Desert, take a little bit of time and track down a good armor set and a few good weapons. To start- I recommend the Frostcursed armor set, because it looks amazing. The Soul Spear, because who doesn’t love a semi-transparent spear that shoots light balls? And the Hollow Visage Katana paired with the Demeniss Royal Guard Shield, because they look sick. You’re welcome. Enjoy.😉

Mike the Person

Excellent episode. If it wasn’t for Crimson Desert I’d be running Marathons with the rest of you heathens

SweatyNReady

There is a siren right around the hour 15 Mark, that I heard right as I rolled through a stop sign.

Dick Whiskey

The siren a little after 1h15 in the episode played as i drove a little too fast passed a camped cop car. I did, in fact, shit my pants

Robbie (DatLie)

Great show guys!!! I haven’t played a fps since titanfall 2 but marathon has got me. I’m not very good but it doesn’t matter. The gunplay is phenomenal and the game to game spice adds to me love it. I’ve bought 4 copies so far for myself and family. I want. Untie to succeed.

Terminal Creative

Outstanding show! Chris’s passion for this game initially had me even more interested in this game than I already was. I found myself staring at the steam store like I was Marge Simpson in that one meme in the 4 days after launch thay I was waiting for my paycheck. I’ve been playing religiously since I got it. I’m hopelessly addicted

Golferpro10

I love Brad but I think Dustin would have been a better choice for another voice. I just think he has more insight. Still a great listen guys!

Jack

Chris, you did a phenomenal job hosting this. It's always such a treat when something really captivates you; your passion for great games is a lot of fun to see. Glad you're loving Marathon. I was really interested and the Sacred Stream pushed me over the edge. See red, leave blue.
