Neon Signs Flash Other Choices | Sacred Symbols, Episode 411

It's mid-May, which can mean only one thing: We're at the point in the calendar when most companies release their financials for the previous fiscal year. Sony is one such organization, reporting a relatively flat year-on-year picture both generally, and with PlayStation in particular. With PS5 sales slowing down all the while the console is becoming more expensive, and with recent Housemarque exclusive Saros seemingly selling softly, does Sony have an uphill battle to keep PlayStation relevant? Or will the inevitable PlayStation 6 -- not to mention PS5's likely-strong swan song next year -- be enough to keep the ever-distracted masses engaged with the ecosystem? We discuss. Plus: Sony's second and third party lead gives a candid interview, 007: First Light goes gold, a new externally-manufactured DualSense controller has hit the market, PlayStation Plus Game Catalog receives a refresh, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Why did so many people believe Game Informer was teasing a Grand Theft Auto VI cover? Do we think the rumors indicating that FromSoft is working on a pirate-themed game are true? Is Dragon Quest XII finally going to be properly revealed in a couple of weeks? Could Chris contest Brad's status as the guy who cares the most about Last Stand Media? A new episode of Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast launches each Friday morning. Please keep Sacred Streaming on here.😩

If you stop posting links to Sacred Streaming on here, I might stop watching that because the Patreon link bypasses ads for me and I am not buying YouTube premium. Please don’t let that write in ruin things for other people like me who appreciate the Patreon link for Sacred Streaming.

On Holly’s delivery day, I can imagine Colin standing in the corner, staring intently and judging everyone like he’s Steven Spielberg on a movie set.

Idk about everyone else but I didn’t get Saros for the same reason I didn’t get returnal, I never played a rouge lite but I hear that there’s no saving progress and the story/ levels are not traditional it’s just running the same game over and over essentially and you unlock the story by doing the run from what I hear. I want more Spider-Man ghost last of us type of experiences than whatever this is.

Magnanimous Colin died months ago, today Vindictive Colin danced and pissed on his grave

All of the discussion on LSM recently has not made it sound appealing. I really hope we see something from Intergalactic this summer to hype me up for it. The reveal trailer would not have moved the needle for me at all without the Naughty Dog logo.

Dustin was on fire this episode, lots of interesting takes and insight

Being a 40-year-old man, the “now you ruined it for the whole class” stuff impacting me really rubs me the wrong way. Colin said he didn’t want to do that when he decided not to put out community guidelines. Taking away the Patreon link would not only put in the ads for me but also make it so I can’t actually listen with my screen off (which you can do if you go full screen then minimize the app itself). If Colin goes through with this spiteful nonsense it’ll not only put me off the streams but have me thinking about how he wants to treat his audience in general. Based on his past record I am hopeful with this kind of feedback he’ll end up keeping it as-is.

yeah it’ll be ridiculous to get rid of the stream links here. The complainers are vocal minority and now it’ll be that much worse for everyone

15:13 Yo is coffee really $10 in the US? My local specialty coffee joint here in the UK charges £3.50 for a flat white, which is about $4.70.

I'm from Poland, and I laughed at the guy's nickname instantly, so Colin's delayed response was hilarious! XD Loved it.

The reason the drink sizes have such insane names is honestly the most American thing imaginable. When Starbucks first opened in the 1970s, they only had two sizes - Short and Tall. 8oz and 12oz Then American customers wanted a bigger size, so Starbucks introduced the Grande, a larger 16 oz cup. But people still wanted EVEN more coffee. The next jump was 20 oz, so Starbucks introduced it the Venti. This is “20” in Italian, tying into back to the Italian coffeehouse inspiration behind the brand. More recently, they added the Trenta, a massive 30 oz cup that’s only used for cold drinks.

The conversation around AI was very level headed today. I don’t think anyone is interested in AI replacing creatives. What AI has the potential to do is give independent creators the ability to make art that was previously impossible without huge budgets and a crew of thousands. Creators like Animals Eating Animals. He was one of the first creators I’ve seen who used generative video to make short films. And this was back in the very early days of the technology (2024). He leverages the uncanny, hallucinatory qualities of the technology to create demented nightmare visions. Coincidentally one of his best films is a parody of David Attenborough documentaries called A Metaphorical Documentary About Animals. I assure you you will love it! 😈😈😈 https://www.patreon.com/posts/158070686?utm_campaign=postshare_fan

The instantaneous means (at our fingertips) of obtaining an entire world of information and opinions have magnified the same discourse that people used to have. As Colin said, I remember AOL chat-rooms, and forums of people ranting about these first-world problems we have (videogames, movies, etc), and so much of it back then still came off as "just to hate on things." I wish we could go back to those times, when the internet was this separate thing we didn't constantly cling to, but the next best thing is to turn away from social media. In time, you'll forget it like it's nothing. Haven't had Twitter or Facebook in years, don't miss it.
