Wow! I haven't heard this in ages! I heard some of this album on the radio when it came out ("From the Beginning"and "Hoe-Down", but didn't buy the album until college, 1974 or 1975. Saw them in concert around then too- they sounded just as fabulous live! Great reaction, guys- Nick, I look forward to hearing your composition! 🎵❤️🎵

Such a strong opener for an album which was my gateway into ELP back in the day. The lyrics are a swipe at the lazy UK music journalists of the time who routinely criticised the band's music seemingly without listening to it. It was interesting to hear you say you wanted to picture Keith Emerson playing the piece....you might like to check out Rachel Flowers, an amazing woman who is blind yet a completely self-taught multi-instrumentalist who has long studied Emerson's playing. Watch her interpretation of Fugue here.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JiC_VDbqcA

Hi Nick n Lex. Great to see you! I have not heard this in a long time. So glad you did this. Now I have the bug in my brain, and I'll have to get out my Vinyl copy. Yes Vinyl! I saw ELP on the "Brain Salad Surgery Tour many years ago, and to this day it is still one of the best concerts I ever attended. Mind Blowing!! Great to see Marley too. Love and Peace.

Just do the whole Trilogy album reaction guys, Take care!

It's always great to listen to ELP. Thanks guys! They are such masterful musicians, and while Keith takes centre stage often, Greg's bass is just perfect, and Carl's drumming is stunning! Then you have Greg's wonderful vocals and guitar (remember 'Take a Pebble') and they become a complete musical package. Yes, I bought this album when it was released in 1972 and was not disappointed. This will age me... I remember driving around Scotland on holiday in my friend's Ford Capri, and he had an 8-track player installed in the car. 8-tracks were the rival of cassettes at that time (they lost out obviously) but did produce good music quality. Anyway 'Trilogy' was on almost constant rotation on that holiday, so whenever I play the album, I always associate it with a great summer holiday in Scotland, lots of scotch whisky and failed attempts to impress Scottish girls! The rest of the album is quite varied with ELP's take on classical pieces by Copland and Ravel ('Hoedown' and 'Abaddon's Bolero')

I always post too soon on here! There is also a 'wild west' story ('The Sheriff') where Carl makes a mistake on the intro and swears to himself, and a dark, synth-heavy track ('Living Sin'). I would be interested to see your reactions to those quite different songs. Thanks again guys, here's hoping you're feeling better Alexia, and thanks B Mac for the great requests.

Dontbe Long

I will keep this short and sweet...you "must" check out Triumvirat- Illusions on a Double Dimple.....you can only get it on YouTube....German Prog three piece that emulated ELP quite well......not as good...but unique in their own right....you won't regret it..and neither will your subscribers.....

I saw your reaction on Youtube adn I just checked and it's still up, so it might not just be US, maybe North America...

Is this still blocked outside of U.S.?

The beginning of this track always reminds me of thecsoundtrack to the original 'Planet of the Apes' movie (Jerry Goldsmith?).

I heard it for the first time in my teens when I was first getting into prog. The first ELP song I heard was Touch & Go on a one-off album by Emerson, Lake, & Powell (Carl was busy with Asia at the time). What a bombastic, triumphant song that was. I bought that album immediately, and started going down the rabbit hole soon after. Brain Salad Surgery was my next one, then Trilogy.
