Finally got to Siberian Khatru!

B Mac

Nick n Lex, you gotta do something that I think will blow your minds. Play the first few seconds of Siberian Khatru and then play the first few seconds of Jimi Hendrix 'Hey Joe'

B Mac

Fur Ball at time mark 2:31 🐶

B Mac

You can always tell it is Bill drumming by the sound of his snare drum. Dead give away. No one, I mean no one has their Snare set up like Bruford does. Even outside of Yes.

Oooo, Ooooo, Ooooo ELP Trilogy Album Back Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Starting at 16:16 on your vid, I always start to get choked up. When I was a teenager, we took care of/helped my grandmother the Summer of 1974 as she was having problems with Diabetes and a failing Pancreas. I was playing this in my bedroom upstairs and left the door open and she was downstairs in the living room. And I can still to this day hear a 67 year old Grandmother who came to America in 1921 from Hungary as a young adult women tell me that this music was so beautiful. I get choked up every time I hear this part since that Summer of 1974. Obviously I didn't play the other parts, which I'm sure would have been too much for her. Very very special memory for me.

B Mac

They always used to open with Siberian Khatru back in the 70's

B Mac

Harpsichord part, Sitar Guitar part and and Steel guitar part.

B Mac

Khatru is a great album closer

Just a suggestion: When you do full album reactions why not at least take a break between side A and Side B so your backs don't hurt as much. 15/20 minutes.

Epic album! I think Lex may have accidentally come up with the perfect description of prog rock - lots of completely different things that don’t belong together, but also fit perfectly together! That nails it!

JK

I agree!

Always such a pleasure and joy to my heart watching you guys enjoy the music that has brought happiness to me for years! I hope to share many more albums and moments with you both for years to come. Alexia's perspective is always such a breath of fresh air! And I knew Nick wouldn't catch his mistake in the lineup sooner or later😂! Let's keep this wonderful journey going!

This is why I love your Patreon channel. We can listen to the greatest prog album of all time together, as if we're in the same room, and share all our thoughts and feelings. It will take you some time Alexia, and some listenings, before you fully discover the gems of Siberian Khatru. I was the same, 'Close To The Edge' and 'And You and I' are comparatively more accessible and follow similar structures, while 'Siberian Khatru' has so many ideas and themes running through it. The band loved it though, and always played it in their live shows. Over the passing of time I've come to think of SK as the bridge from the Close To The Edge album linking it to Tales from Topographic Oceans. Now what about that double album? You've only done two sides I think, could that be a contender for another Patreon reaction? Thank you so much Nick and Alexia, it fills my heart with joy listening to my favourite albums with you xx

Loved this! Hadn't heard it in years and years. Big Bill Bruford fan, was always disappointed at the change, even though Alan White was good as well, just wasn't the "same."

Franck Thibault

Alexia, how can you drive and listening to this and you are teary eye the whole time! 😋

NicknLex

😂 It’s a challenge for sure!

Bill Bruford played and wrote on Close To The Edge. He left the group right after the album was finished. Alan joined in time for the tour that followed this albums' release.

Kind of funny: I wanted to know more about the cover art to this album so I googled "Close to the Edge cover" and google misinterpreted what I said and led me to this Yes "cover" band. They do an amazing job! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVBUgM5GvpI

I finally just had time to watch this! I Love these full album sessions with guys! To me this entire album is a masterpiece , but I must say if I had only heard close to the edge and You and I as a companion pc essentially, then a couple years later heard the entire album, I think I would feel exactly what you feel! A similar thing happens to me sometimes when a band I like releases 3 songs or half an album of songs. then releases the other half of songs. I always feel a disconnect with the newer unreleased tracks in context with the songs I have already heard. It will take some time. I would bet in the future you will find the whole album a masterpiece! Glad you posted this! glad to sit down and listen to this with friends!

Finally had time to watch this, and what a pleasure it was! I love that you both wore lots of green to go with the album cover! You will appreciate Siberian Khatru the more you listen to it, especially if you play the whole album. It is so energetic and I think it's a great album closer. I love the way Chris Squire goes nuts at the end! Looking forward to Court and Spark and Trick of the Tail! 🎵❤️🎵 Debbie

Hi, really enjoyed the reaction. I fell in love with Yes thru Yessongs the triple LP & that album opens with Siberian kahtru. Actually they open quite a few of their tours with that track. The bass is the instrument you want to focus on to get the feel for this one . Steve usually does a long solo at the end when they play the song live. In classical music terms Siberian Kahtru always felt like a Pastoral ( a song related to experiencing nature).I've always thought the album CTTE had a good flow throughout but I did have the whole Close to the edge album on Yessongs, just in reverse order so I can't speak to buying the album CTTE and giving you a first time reaction, I had already heard it out of order. Yes is heavily influenced by orchestral music that's why it can seem like so much is going on but it still fits together. They were sitting around listening to Stravinsky and Mussorgsky etc while taking in the adventurous bands of the time like King Crimson, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report. Steve Howe has mentioned Bartok as an influence I've just started to listen to his music, it's quite an adventure as well. Just a mention about something i love about Yes that few bands did and almost no bands do now. The way they can slow it way down to the gentlest moments and just have you captivated and you almost forget to breath. It's a gift.

I’ve listened to this album so many times, but I don’t remember ever noticing the voice placement in the I Get Up section (which is my favorite section). Steve is far left, Chris is far right, and Jon is dead center. You may have already figured this out, but others may have not. Thanks so much for playing this. It is my favorite prog album and in my top 10 of all albums.

Awesome Reaction Guys - Close to the Edge 2 Days in a row. Why not?? One of my other favourite Reaction Channels and fellow Canadian: "Verdy Channel" did it yesterday.

Michael Gray

"Close to the Edge" is one my all time favorite albums. Timeless music to me.
