Aloha Patrons!

See you today Thursday 9/13 at 4:30pm Pacific Time for our monthly Live Lesson - if you click on the video above, you’ll see a countdown for your timezone.

I'll teach our September vote winner, Ain't No Sunshine.  See a preview here from my Instagram 5@5 mini-concert.  If you have a low-G ukulele, that would be better for this arrangement.  But no worries if you don't, you can learn it on high-G and then try it on low-G when you get the opportunity.

Take a look at the attached chart - my focus in this arrangement is on lifting out the bass line and the rhythm because those are really the key elements of the song.  So this arrangement might be a bit challenging for beginners, but I will explain in the lesson how best to simplify.  I'm really excited to dig into the rhythm of this song - that's where the real challenge lies!

Please note - this is a Work in Progress chart for Patrons only, so please do not share until my final arrangement is published.  Thank you!

Amazing lesson!! So much fun and so much to learn

Hey, just wanted to say how truly spectacular this version is. I love the full sound and have a sense we are benefitting from a deep understanding of what's essential in the song.

Cynthia, thanks for teaching us both the music and the theory. I'm learning a lot every month and the songs have been unbeatable. Bill Withers is awesome, I wish there was some way I could hear/learn "Grandma's Hands" on the uke. Thanks again, keep doin' what you're doin'.

Maggie

Love the sound of your new uke. It has a noticeable difference to the tone that I sure did like.

Rich Montoya

Saturday night and everyone is asleep or out and about, except me and my uke... I have been waiting since Thursday to get some time with this lesson. Thanks for covering this song Cynthia, one of my faves!

Maggie

Just finished the whole lesson! Thank you! Loved the variety of levels added to this song! Chucking, rhythm, picking and hard chords! Barely hanging in there but it’s doable! So excited to practice this month!

Alex Vasallo

Can I request to add City of Stars from La La Land to the lesson vote list?

Deanna Dianne Williford

SONIA BARDES

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR THE LESSON PART WITH THE CHUCK :D

Bill Atterberry

I hope Bill Withers had the privilege of seeing your performance before he passed. You managed to do the impossible with the Ukulele! Oh my God, "Even a monkey can learn to hold a chord!" Thanks for that laugh!!!!
