{Patron-only post}

Aloha, Patrons!

A warm welcome to the many new Patrons who've just joined us. Please see the bottom of this post for tips on joining our private facebook group (best place to get support and ask questions) and other Patron communities.

Our May 2019 song poll winner is "The Girl From Ipanema" by Antonio Carlos Jobim.

I hope to see you for the Live Lesson for this iconic song on Thursday, May 23 at 4:30PM Pacific Time (for $5+ Patrons).  It will be my first live Patron event as a Hawaii resident!  If you'd like to change your pledge and join us, click here for help on editing your pledge.  I'm working on a beginner-friendly arrangement of this song, and will share some variations for intermediate players as well.

I'll also play through the arrangement on my 5@5 Instagram Live show on Wednesday, so tune in to get a preview.  I go live at 5pm Pacific time on Wednesdays - follow me @cynthialinmusic.  I'll share the chord chart to $3+ Patrons along with the 5@5 video play-through after the livestream.

Thanks to everyone for voting and sharing your song suggestions in our May 2019 song poll - please go back to the poll to keep commenting and upvoting your song suggestions for next month.  I'll use your comments as inspiration for my 100 Days of Ukulele Songs project (which is almost at Day 50 for this year!).

Look forward to seeing many of you online on Thursday!

xo cynthia.

About the Song of the Month

For each of our monthly song vote winners, I teach a Live Lesson for $5+ Patrons and post a Patron-only chord chart for $3+ Patrons. I then create a Patron-supported Play-Along to share on YouTube. Here's a playlist of recent Patron-supported Play-Along videos. The Live Lesson will be available for $5+ Patrons for the first month, and all Patrons will get access at the beginning of the following month. Click here to find all available Live Lessons.

Astrud Gilberto & Stan Getz ◊ The Girl From Ipanema ◊ 1964

Beautifully realized live version of the classic Brazilian song by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes - with English lyrics written by Norman Gimbel for Astrud's husband João's album with Stan Getz in 1963. Astrud was recruited to sing the English lyrics at the recording session - and the single's popularity thrust her into the spotlight even though she wasn't a trained singer. This is her first appearance on US television.

Hi Cynthia. Looking forward to this song!! I am getting an error message that says video unavailable. Any thoughts?

Shelley Rubzow

Where are you located? I’m in Canada and often the source of the video is for viewing in the US only. If you go to YouTube directly you should be able to find another video to view. That’s what I did

Ken (UKEn) Freestone

Thanks Shelley. It actually works on my MacBook but it is still saying unavailable on my IPhone. I know I can go directly to YouTube, but I just thought I would let someone know that it wasn't connecting on my phone. Thanks for the response!!

Mary Jane Wisniewski

I’m in California and I couldn’t view the video either. Also, are making a PDF of the song available before Thursday?

Kelly Kaminskas

Love your tutorials! still would like to see one for the Chris Isaak song. 😁

Aloha Cynthia! so great to see you and what a beautiful view! Speaking of seeing...the video was spotty for me...not aure if it was my feed. Anywho...would love the chordchart when you have a moment for patrons? Thank you and always live 5@5!! ❤
