{Patron-only post: please click through and heart this post so I know you've seen it, thank you!}

Aloha, Patrons!

Welcome to our March newsletter, and an extra warm welcome to the new Patrons who joined after our Beatles Jam last Saturday.  Patron support makes the monthly Community Jams free and available to all, so I thank you for your help in creating these online gatherings!  New Patrons, please see the special note below for help getting started in our community.

Speaking of the monthly Community Jam, I'm thinking about Disney Jam as our March theme.  Any requests?  Comment below if there's a Disney song that you (or your kids!) want to play, or if you already play some Disney songs that work well on the uke!  Save the date: March 27 (last Saturday of the month, at 12pm Hawaii time)

All Patrons can now access the recorded Live Lesson for "Can't Take My Eyes Off You."
Practice with the play-along video here - thanks for all your support for this song!

Interested in learning to transpose?  I am very excited to teach an Intro to Transposing lesson for the Beginner Live Jam tomorrow.  If you need some basics on how transposing works and how you move a song into a different key, join us for a beginner-friendly introduction to the piano keyboard, counting half steps and whole steps, and we'll apply this basic theory using the song Happy Birthday.  To edit your pledge level for this lesson ($10+), visit https://www.patreon.com/join/cynthialin and select your desired reward tier.  (Patreon will only charge you for the difference in the upgrade.)

Congrats to the many (dozens! maybe over100?!) Patrons participating in our 100 Days of Ukulele Project for 2021.  We just passed the 30 day mark, and this year's project community is stronger than ever - I am so proud of all the aloha and encouragement shared, as well as the level of growth and progress, from our newbies to our professionals.  Reminder that we have a Live Check-in this Friday in our facebook group.  All are welcome to join the Facebook group to cheer on the participants, and if you're inspired, it's not too late to start the project.  Check out this link for more info, read the FAQ, and follow #100DaysUke2021 on Instagram to connect with the community there.

Be sure to check out the list of Zoom Open Mics and Jams hosted by our Patron Community Managers and Regional Squad leaders, including events specifically for GMT/UK/Europe and Asia/Australia time zones.  Thanks to the organizers for opening up these events to Patrons!  If you are hosting a Zoom event and would like to invite Patrons to join, feel free to post the info in the comments.  You can also message me at the end of the month to be included in the monthly newsletter.

See you online soon!  (getting ready to go live right now for my weekly 5@5 Live show on Instagram!)

xo cynthia 🌺

Yes, yes, yes, DISNEY Jam! Into the Unknown - Frozen? Reflection - Mulan? You’ve got a Friend in Me - Toy Story? It’ll be awesome no matter what. :)

Ken (UKEn) Freestone

Hi Cynthia...A Disney Jam? Yes Please. Baby MIne/Dumbo would be lovely (and of course sad too).

Suthi Picotte Nagar

I’d love to learn Almost There from The Princess and the Frog. (Love to have the melody to finger pick and the chords for a second ukulele!!!) 💚

Suthi Picotte Nagar

Oh! And I’m a new Patron. I started learning ukulele last May. Originally learned via Classroom in a Book with mentor. I found your YouTube video because I wanted to learn to play The Boxer. Thank you for providing so much content for learning ukulele!!!

J Kerrigan

Aloha! I'm Joe and a new patron. I started playing 1 month ago. I've always wanted to learn how to play a song and I've been learning Cynthia's Stairway to Heaven tutorial. Thank you for all that you have taught me. Disney Jam sounds great. How about I've Seen The Light from Tangled or Next Right Thing from Frozen 2?

Kaylyn Griffiths

Hello! I started playing about 2.5 years ago and I am completely a student of Cynthia Lin. My friend and I have learned together and love it. We play together often and love your tutorials. I am an elementary educator and I have played for my students and for lots of groups of children. My 7 year old has expressed an interest in learning, and I am thrilled. I love the idea of Disney! Lost in the woods, when I am older, into the unknown- frozen 2; when will my life begin, I see the light- tangled; reflection- Mulan; magic carpet ride- Aladdin

Carolyn D

Hi! I am so excited to be here! This is my first time with Patreon. I have been playing uke for about 6 years now, totally learned through various Youtubers, and Cynthia has been by far my favorite. I am excited to check out the lessons and tutorials available here, and hopefully when I have more time I would love to join in with some live jam sessions. For now, just watching prerecorded is about all I can handle. I have so much fun learning new songs...online tutorials can be a total rabbit hole for me! Love love love the Beatles, and am listening to the most recent Beatles jam right now... I can't wait to download the songs and play along! Aloha!!

Joe Chang

Disney Jam! So many choice, I think Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride would be especially fitting for ukulele!

Clara

Hello! I am also new here, started playing ukulele during the last lockdown, in march 2020. I have an Enya Nova. Busy now with learning Girl from Ipanema. Looking forward to the Disney jam! I would love some of the old ones, like from the little Mermaid or the Sleeping Beauty. Loving your lessons Cynthia!!

Cindy Anders

No idea if this could work for the Disney Jam - When You Wish Upon A Star from 1940 Pinocchio - with room for a nice kazoo solo in the style of Louis Armstrong’s version ;)

Cynthia Lin

i just watched this scene to hear this song (oh my heart) - and today i learned that Dumbo is from 1941!

Cynthia Lin

hi Paulette and the Rascals! :) i don't know how easy a version i can make of "You've Got a Friend in Me" but i'll try!

Cynthia Lin

hi Kaylyn! shoutout to the teachers :) thanks for all the suggestions, I'll check them out!

Clara

Yes! I found it perfect for my level, still beginner but I can pimp my strum with the variations you propose.

Caitlyn

Disney sounds fun! Would love a Pirates of the Caribbean theme song (He's a pirate) tutorial. Have been trying to find a decent tutorial!

Holly Soptick

Disney sounds so fun! How about "Colors of the Wind"?

d Kate dooley

I learned my first ukulele son2g from you. My daughters figured out I really wanted a uke and would likely never recognize that fact for myself, so they got me one for Christmas in 2017. I found a link on You Tube that said, Your Fist Ukulele Song or some such. It was you -- and the song was Three Little Birds. I couldn't sing it in C, so I moved it up a little. Thank you for teaching so much about ukulele.

Steven Winget

‘I Wanna Be Like You” from the old “Jungle Book” movie (not the newer one).

Deb

Sung by Cliff Edwards in the movie (also voiced Jiminy Cricket). Cliff Edwards was a famous ukulele player in his day :)

Janet Levy

Hi I’m a newbie and have been playing my Red Kamoa for a couple of years. Slow progress but love your tutorials Cynthia. Thank you! Your arrangement of Kiss the Girl is super fun.

Carol King

Oh Please Please I Wanna Be Like You from Jungle Book !!! I sang that with my grandsons when they were younger but since they are older now they will only sing it with me when none of their friends are around. They would think their NaNa is so cool if I learned it for them. lol

Marisa Ikert

I have been trying to learn I see the light from Tangled on and off for the past year-ish... finding it to be quite the challenge especially once the key changes but would love to finally polish it off so I can sing it with my friend!

Noah Berryman

I would really like to learn Lost In the Woods from Frozen Remember Me from Coco, or I See the Light from Tangled. -Noah

Maggie

I see the light - tangled You’ve got a friend in me - toy You’re welcome - moana (or shiny!) Scales and arpeggios from lady and the tramp! Carried me with you - from onward Remember me (maybe too hard? (Hawaiian roller coaster ride would be amazing for an intermediate class!!!! )

Adriana Yon

He's a Tramp from the 1955 version of Lady and the Tramp

Will Wheeler

I’m a new patron as of this month. I’ve been playing for 2 years. I have a Luna TC MAH Concert Ukulele. I live in Wilmington, NC and I’ve taken classes and participated in the monthly jams here at the North Carolina Ukulele Academy although the jams have been postponed during this time. Look forward to getting better on the ukulele. Thanks, Will

Karen Greene

Remember Me from Coco. I also think a villain song would be fun! Like Poor Unfortunate Souls, Mother Knows Best, or Cruela De Vil.

Yvette Rodriguez

I would love to learn to play Remember Me and La Llorona from Disney's Coco.

Christine Schjelderup Free

I'm a new patron starting last month. I've been playing for about 4 years. I have a Kaloha concert Uke that I bought in Hawaii 2 years ago. I live in Happy Valley, Oregon and played with the Milwaukie Center Jammers, hoping to return to the group when we can safely meet again. I don't practice or play as much as I'd like and feel like my Ukulele has a much bigger sound and could perform much better if I would keep at it. I attended the Beatles Jam and had a very fun time. Looking forward to more in the future.

Sharon Foulk

I always liked "Under the Sea" from Little Mermaid.

Cynthia Lin

welcome, Janet! i haven't seen a Red Kamoa in a while! Aloha Warehouse in SF used to sell a lot of those!

Jim K

I'm a new patron this month. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I played a baritone for a few years years when I was young, then laid it down for 35 years. Now I have the time, motivation, and the tenor ukulele to get back into it, get better, and have fun. I have been watching the YouTube videos and look forward to playing.

Paula Basehart

Please do “Carried Me With You” ( from Onward). Sweet song about sibling love.😁

jayne northcott

Can you feel the love tonight from the Lion King is a great singalong

Svenja

Hi, I'm Svenja and joined your Patreon Community just an hour ago. :) I'm from Germany and started playing the Ukulele in december 2019. Most of the time I play my Martin C1K Uke. I would love to sing and play Ukulele that's why I started to take singing lessons since half a year. At the moment I'm working on the song "My Church" by Maren Morris - I love country music and it sounds so good on the Uke. I'm happy to be here! Have a nice day everyone!

Nina

Aloha from Ohio! Newbie patron and am extremely excited to be here! And just in time for Disney!! Woo! Hoping for Show Yourself (Frozen II), Part of Your World (Little Mermaid), Going Down the Bayou (Princess and the Frog), or I See the Light (Rapunzel) Oh - I totally forgot in my excitement to add that I have been playing my first uke, a little blue Enya, since December and I just purchased a UBass this past Saturday! Have my eye on acquiring a tenor soon... So in love with Ukes!

Neha

Hello hello from sunny Seattle (jk, it’s pouring)! I’m a new patron, just joined last week and I started playing the uke a few weeks ago! Having so so much fun trying new songs out on it, and I’ve been loving the huge archive of lessons you have :) thanks much! Excited for the live lesson this Thursday!

Nina

This made me LOL - I used to live in Lacey and my thought process was something like: “Sunny” Seattle? Huh. Must be having unusually good weather for March.... ohh she’s kidding!

Neha

Hahaha oh absolutely kidding. I’m from California so am very used to saying “sunny California!” And now I say the same but ironically! Though the weather actually has been pretty lovely for March. Fingers crossed it stays this way :)

jayne northcott

I have a google notebook. When I access the song index through the CL app on it the videos come up really small and I cannot enlarge them. If I go the long way round and access the index through the patreon website there is no problem.

jayne northcott

does anyone have a solution? Sorry this bit became detached from the above post 😢🤣

jayne northcott

we had lovely weather in the first lockdown this time last year but pretty dull and cold now sadly in Derbyshire England 🥲but our regular ukulele zoom meets with friends keep us going🤩

Jenny Selig

Hmmm. I haven't heard of this happening before. Just to clarify -- this is on the CL app or the Patron app?

Kathy Voth

I just joined this weekend. I've been playing for about a year now.

Shawn Baker

Hello! thanks Cynthia for a great resource. Found your videos on YouTube, and am learning to play the uke with my daughter.
