Aloha, Patrons!

Happy weekend!  I've got a variety of news and videos to share, so I figured I'd put them all into one post.  Hope you're strummin' and relaxin' today!

"New Day" - play-along video for my original song

Last month, I taught my original song called "New Day" for our monthly Live Lesson.  You can practice with this play-along video, and if you haven't had a chance to watch the Live Lesson yet, all Patrons now have access (find the lesson here).  During the lesson, we discovered that I'd left some chords out of the bridge - I've updated the lesson post with a corrected chord chart, and also attached it to this post.  Hope you'll check it out, and thank you for supporting my original music!

I've recently moved my weekly 5@5 LIVE show to YouTube, and so far I'm pleased with the shift.  The YouTube platform allows me to use upgraded audio and video (vs the Instagram format), and the live chat is easier to follow.  I've also heard from lots of you that YouTube is more convenient to watch and replay - thanks for your feedback, and please do continue to share your feedback (you can comment directly on the video).

Should we learn the "Friends" theme?

With the popularity of the "Friends" Reunion special that was just released, I thought I'd share this little snippet of the "Friends" theme that Abe and I recorded a while back.  (Definitely worth a watch, if only to hear Abe sing back-up vocals!)  Are you interested in learning it?  It might be a good time to teach it, but only if the Patrons are interested, so let me know!

New "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" Flashmob - What color will you be?

The CL Uke Community has been invited to share a flashmob video as part of the virtual Ukulele Festival of Hawai'i 2021!  Fellow uke enthusiast Lien Kratzke (of the Kratzke Sisters) did a brilliant job editing our latest flashmob,  "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" flashmob featuring Jake Shimabukuro, and she has agreed to edit a new flashmob for the festival.  Lien and I came up with the idea of playing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," and then having folks dress in just one color of the rainbow 🌈 (ie, all in Red or Orange or Yellow or Green or Blue or Violet).  Each participant's submission becomes a color tile that Lien can manipulate and edit into color groupings.  It's an experiment - I'm excited to see what Lien does with it!

Details and submission info will come this week, but we do have a hard deadline of 6/20 for video submission.  So I wanted to give you all a heads up to 1) practice the song (linked above,  we'll be playing along to this track, and chord chart attached) and 2) start planning your monochrome costume!  You can have friends and family in the shot but you all need to be in one color against a plain (white if possible, or solid color) background.

We're still figuring out how to assign colors for even distribution.  To get some rough numbers, please comment below if you'll be participating in this flashmob, and what color you'd pick as your first choice.  Feel free to add other colors if you're flexible and have a more wardrobe options. :)

I know Lien will make something magical.  Hope you'll be able to participate, more details coming soon!  We'll go over "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in the key of G in this Thursday's Live Lesson, for those who haven't played it before.
