Elena and Stefan go on an awkward date with Caroline and Matt

I think the majority agree with you about Caroline, he did mention he still had feelings for Elena in the past, but the way he was acting on that date was too much, if he apologised in the end it would be good but calling Caroline crazy is a step too far, no matter how insecure Caroline is. Her thoughts are definitely amplified by her feelings about Elena though, she's always been everyone's favourite

Matt gives the vibe that he asks the women in his life if its "that time of the month" everytime they show negative emotion.... Also even if it wasnt for what jeremy mentions at the end about Vicky i still think a 15 year old being obsessed with vampires in 2010 is so real haha.

I disagree. Every step of the way, Caroline took things too far. She started by orchestrating a test for both Matt and Elena, rather than at attempt at real communication. Over a matter that Matt had already communicated pretty well. And when there were perceived failings of that test, she verbally lashed out - specifically at Elena - making her insecurities ELENA'S problem and trying to shame her for it. Saying Caroline was acting crazy is 100% accurate. Not to mention Matt is the one who addresses the issues with this entire setup/test and puts in the effort to communicate more. Not Caroline. This night was a big fail for Caroline.

Matt was being really insensitive here.😄 exactly where was Caroline crazy? He admitted he still feels something for Elena, he keeps looking at her longingly and then he reminisces out loud of how fond his memories of being a couple with Elena still are to him.😄 honestly even a very secure person wouldn't feel good about this and have every reason to be suspicious. Caroline haters make no sense to me in this case, her 'insecurities' have been proven to be true over and over again. She's RIGHT. And I think her way of testing him was valid. If Matt didn't try to make things right at the end, Caroline may have broken up with him which I think would be a healthy thing to do. I don't think Matts longing stares are that serious, he's been close to Elena since childhood, she was his first everything, she was all that he knew, so it's not so much that it's about Elena the girl, he's letting go of his younger self, of the familiarity, of his childhood dreams...If he were truly inlove, he'd be a lot more bothered by seeing her with someone else

So if Matt already communicated pretty well that he still feels something for Elena, what kind of communication did you want Caroline to make? It's obvious she felt bad and insecure about it, it didn't need to be said out loud. She organised a double date to observe how serious those feelings still are, and also hoped that seeing Elena happy with Stefan would help Matt move on and leave her in the past. It's a valid thing to do and it worked. She is not crazy, she gets proven right over and over again. She lashed out at Elena first because Elena was the one bringing up the past in the beginning, and she expected her girlfriend to have more sensitivity and awareness. And then you praise Matt for 'communicating' at the end? You mean when he called her crazy? Matt WAS the one who was supposed to say something there, not Caroline, he was dismissive and insensitive to her all evening, why is it Carolines responsibility again to make things right? It would be much easier to not make her insecurities everyones problem if everyone stopped proving those insecurities are based on TRUTH

I would be so insecure in Caroline's shoes aswell. But I also understand Matt's perspective. He was upfront with Caroline and told her he still had feelings for Elena. And being tested like that isn't nice either. They just shouldn't have gotten involved with each other at this point imo.

well it goes beyond the caroline stuff for me but i dont want to spoil or hint at anything. and yeah it sucks bc his family storyline is really good and ive always found his moments with Vicky really touching but at the same time he has so many annoying moments that just really irk me. Like yeah he has family trauma but it's not an excuse to treat people the way he does. like i said he definitely has valid moments and feelings but the way he expresses himself is just big oof

Exactly Justice for Caroline, Matt gaslight her and lowkey so did Elena. During the memory lane Elena could have redirected stories of all 3 of them. They all are childhood friends. You can be in that situation but include the other partner. Im sure they all have memories together. Matt was Def the problem in this situation

She doesn't get "prove right" over and over again when it's a test she designed her loved ones to fail 💀 The excuses you're making are mind boggling. Matt HAS communicated very well over his complicated Elena feelings and Caroline STILL tried to rush-test whether those complicated feelings are still present when she KNOWS they are. She's self sabotaging and setting everyone up to fail so they confirm her insecurities and she gets a reason to lash out. When the truth is it has always been HER pursuing a relationship with a guy who is still going through post-breakup heartbreak. Something he's made repeatedly clear and something Caroline has repeatedly acknowledged. You can try to "justify" Caroline orchestrating a test and trying to manipulate her friends all you want, but it doesnt absolve her. It's ridiculously low behavior that is in fact CRAZY. The way you're cosigning this foolishness and toxicity is troubling. "Matt was dismissive and insensitive to her all evening" -- you mean in the ridiculously dismissive and insensitive test orchestrated by his "girlfriend" which he was hyper-aware he was being forced to navigate? 💀

I think a lot of the characters' integrity and consistency really suffer because these writers want maximum drama and tension at all times, so they get written as being insensitive, aloof, or deceptive for no reason, hence Matt in this episode, or when Stefan hides things. 😭

Not gonna lie, when I watched that scene with Matt and Caroline in the car back then, it was sweet and romantic and all that. But nowadays, I have to say it leaves a really bitter flavour in my mouth and reminds me of my Ex who also liked to gaslight me and make me feel bad because I’d caught him lying.

No spoilers but Caroline is the best, we love her. Her and Damon are my favorites. She just needs to grow into herself and stop allowing everyone to gaslight her. Matt isnt a bad guy and I dont think he is purposefully gaslighting her. Hes just a young guy who has bad relationship examples. Caroline comes from a broken home with parents who leave her to her own designs. Shes an OCD controle freak who overthinks everything... I like Elena, but she needs some girlfriend social awareness... Guys are dumb, she needed to stop the conversations.

Ok I think you’re being a bit dramatic here. Elena and Matt are still very much friends, Caroline knows this. And it’s been mentioned multiple times that before they dated they were best friends. It’s not shocking at all that she would bring up a funny memory from their past when they were on the topic of that subject. She didn’t say it in a flirtatious way, the context of it wasn’t even a romantic incident, Caroline was the one who was being way too insecure and taking everything personally when she’s brought up of that fact Elena and Matt have history. If Caroline was truly that irritated by her Boyfriend and Best Friend bonding over the memories of their RECENT relationship, maybe just maybe….. SHE SHOULDN’T BE DATING HER BEST FRIENDS EX?? But no one ever brings that up huh? Quick to blame Elena for any and everything but give Caroline a pass for being a horrible friend. Didn’t she spend the whole first like 4 episodes of the 1st season shading and gossiping about her bestie Elena because she was jealous that she was getting all the attention despite it being because her parents died? They even allude to in the pilot how the entire summer where Elena was dealing with the grief of her parents, Caroline hadn’t spoken to her at all since the first time she was seeing her again was back at school, mind you this is one of her childhood best friends. It seems like Bonnie was the only one actually there for Elena during the lowest moment of her life….

I think the show is trying to get you on Caroline’s side. Matt was upfront about not being over Elena, but then he turned around and gaslit Caroline when there was clear evidence of it. I think there’s a very clear message here that he’s NOT somehow a perfect sweetheart when every other character is morally gray. And I think Elena was not aware that Matt was still so emotional about it and got visibly progressively more uncomfortable as the night went on. It seemed like she was genuinely trying to relive fun stories

im watching this backwards as ive only ever really watched the spinoffs, so any knowledge i have is only if they mentioned it in that era. and even then, i only really paid attention to the witch stuff. so a first watch but not a blind watch. it will be interesting to see where they take these characters and how the plot/lore grows. definitely so far not enough bonnie. she needs to be in EVERY episode

Shes just had a breakup, her daughter is god knows where and its a bar, where else are you supposed to get "wasted" as matt puts it, she was hanging out with her old friend jenna and a hot guy like damon and was totally on with him, unpopular opinion but kelly did nothing wrong (in this episode at least)

Showing the old vampires how to text & newer customs had me dying 😂 Emo Jeremy is fully in his vampire research deep dive. Pearl means BUSINESS 👏🏼 The Mystic Grill is comparable to the Bronze, it’s the popular hangout spot. Love a Mariana’s Trench needle drop! 🎶 That double date was so awkward 😭 Jeremy fully confronting Anna about being a vampire was crazy. Not Matt gaslighting Caroline about her feelings about him and Elena. And Elena invalidating Caroline‘s feelings about it sucks. I know Caroline has her insecurities as well, but it’s all just a mess. I will never not be on Caroline’s side about this tho. Honestly, Matt deserved seeing his mother and Damon about to get it on 😂 The vampires attacking the brothers in their home was wild! Jeremy wanting Ana to turn him tho 😳 I always forget how much this show. Just sucks you in to all the drama, mystery, & supernatural elements. I’m so glad you guys are enjoying the show 🖤
