Who's ready for a Thursday Tear fest? Cause we weren't. This one hit us so hard, so please prepare for many sniffles. Overall this was incredible and just felt so realistic.

We love our disaster movies to be on the wild campy side but this one really made you feel the devastation. Also...Baby Tom Holland!! This was practically his audition for Spiderman.

What did you think of this one?

Yesss idk who requested this but I love them , this is one of my favorite movies of all time. I’m looking forward to your reaction!! ❤️🫶🏾

Tom Holland was such a great child actor 😭

Laura Read

So weird I was thinking about this film last night and wanted to watch it again. Yay!

DantesInfernoTv

Hi darlings , thank you for reacting to this movie ! This 1 actually hits to close to home that I definitely have a bit of a trauma when seeing this movie.. as I’ve mentioned a couple times before , my family is from Sumatra Indonesia (Java/surubaja) and on boxing day 2004 I’ve lost about 7 familymembers because of this tsunami. On Christmas it’ll be 22 years and it still feels like it happened yesterday 🥺🩵 The movie is about 70/80% accurate of the things that happened that day , so they did a fenomenal job I definitely give m that and the acting was top tier! Love yall.

courtney 🧚🏽‍♀️

the sheer panic, fear, and anxiety this movie gives me 😅 i cannot imagine going through this type of natural disaster. they’re SO lucky none of them died. and the mom is strong AF whew this move is so visceral 😭 i cry so much watching this no matter how many times ive seen it

BatmanFanGirl

I'm so sorry for your loss. I was 25 when this disaster happened and I can remember how sad and awful we felt for the area's affected.

Laura Read

Oh I forgot the last time I watched this was before I had kids. Now I'm crying every time they cry or scream 😭

This is one of my fave films. I had friends who experienced this disaster in real life when i was at school. Thankfully they survived. But it was crazy. Its based off a true story. The big tsunami in 2004 i think.

Kaylee Smeaton

I have a few supernatural horror type anime to recommend reacting too as well as one about superhetoes! Demon Slayer/kimetsu no yaiba. Jujutsu Kaisen Attack On Titan My hero academia. I think dub n sub for these are both good so up to you what you go for. Sub is for jap dub eng sub. :) You can find these on places like Crunchyroll.

A 9.2-9.3 magnitude earthquake caused a massive tsunami with waves up to 30 m (100 ft) high, which devastated communities along the surrounding coasts of the Indian Ocean, killing an estimated 227,898 people in 14 countries, especially in Aceh in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu in India, and Khao Lak in Thailand. It is the deadliest tsunami in history, the deadliest natural disaster of the 21st century, and one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history. It is also the worst natural disaster in the history of Indonesia, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The earthquake itself is the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Asia, the strongest of the 21st century, and the second- or third-most powerful globally since modern seismography began in 1900. It had the longest fault rupture ever observed, between 1,200 to 1,300 kilometres (746 to 808 mi), and had the longest duration of faulting ever observed, lasting at least ten minutes. It caused the entire planet to vibrate by as much as 10 mm (0.4 in), and also remotely triggered earthquakes as far away as Alaska. Its epicentre was located between Simeulue and mainland Sumatra. The plight of the affected people and countries prompted a worldwide humanitarian response, with donations totaling more than US$14 billion (equivalent to US$24 billion in 2025 currency).

yall are probably my favorite reactors! I dont comment a lot, but wanted to say I love watching you guys so much and I also love that youre brancing out into other genres. huge horror enjoyer but other movies are great too like this one so yay! It's not even common for me to have someone's patreon for more than a couple months but ive been here since november I think and you truly bring an awesome comfy vibe

Erqqy

I watched this at 8 with my sisters we were so scared sad came out of this movie traumatized haven’t re watched it because of that until now

gloomygraveyardgirl

God this movie never fails too make me cry. I was 6 years old when this happened and i remember it so well. My parents were glued to the news in the days after and making sure no one we knew were there. It was such a huge tragedy and i remember when i got back to school after christmas break and the teacher talking about it because quite a few norwegian tourists died. And the impact it had on the locals in the countries that were hit is unfathomable. The death toll of this disaster is horrific. Im pretty sure this tsunami is the reason we now have alert systems for these kinds of natural disasters. The acting in this movie is incredible and Tom Holland especially. Everything is so well done and feels so real.

Aileen Murillo

I love your reactions and commentary. Would love to see you react to Ginny and Georgia! Its a tv series but I know you will love getting into the characters

un.filth.er.ed

idk it irks me when hollywood cashes in on white families' stories while tsunamis literally happen all over asia. every year, my parents prepped in the philippines... where are OUR stories? why are WE the side characters? why are we focusing on such a privileged family? but hey TOM HOLLAND SPIDERMANNNNNN

Lauren Jernigan

Some things were actually downplayed in terms of the families’ injuries. Also Lucas reunited multiple families and went on to study medicine because he said he never wanted to be in a position to not know how to help again. A lot of the background actors were survivors of the tsunami and locals to the area. They filmed a lot of it on location and took care to make a love letter to locals and those who helped even after losing everything.

ariel mermaid

This was a great movie and the end is hurt warming and a young tom aka spider man lol

Rebecca Pantene

I absolutely love this movie, everything about it is so incredible and I truly believe Tom Holland should have won an Oscar for his performance! ALL of the acting was fantastic and I ugly cry every time I watch this. The scene where the 3 brothers unite is particularly beautiful, it rips my heart out! Loved watching your reactions and I’m sending lots of love your way! ❤️🙌❤️

JC

Sorry for the yap I just had a lot of thoughts lol... One of the main issues with the Tsunami in SE Asia at the time was simply that tsunamis just arent as common there as somewhere like the pacific. The underwater earthquake that caused this specific wave was a 9.1 magnitude. That was the largest quake in asias history up until that point, with the waves reaching as far as africa. So yes you are absolutely correct about it fundamentally altering the preparedness of the region. And not only the region but worldwide, as this earthquake had a fault length of something like 800 miles, it ended up reaching such a huge number of countries that there are now a lot more preparations to work together and share humanitarian relief when something like this happens. As someone who grew up in an area that had frequent natural disasters (hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis etc.), even though we are taught so much about what to do in case of an emergency (how to climb a palm tree, where to hide in an earthquake) I am so happy and greatful to be somewhere now where the recent earthquake was simply a 3.4. My mother used to have nightmares of earthquakes and hurricanes constantly. Its such a difficult thing to go through.

jen

Guys, you nedd to watch Society Of The Snow

Izanne

God this movie is so good and hits so hard. I ugly cry every time I see it. The devastation and all those families that didn’t get to find their loved ones at all. It’s so so sad. I also went down a rabbit hole and watched documentaries about the event. It’s well worth watching. One specific docu-series that is really good is Tsunami:Race Against Time.

Jade Lamb

You guys should definitely watch Everest and Deepwater Horizon! Both based on true true life stories and both so emotional!

Justin

Society of the Snow by the same director is also excellent!

pamysue

Variety IS the spice of life! Horror and Thriller are my go-to but I love lots of other movies. Glad you are branching out! The more the merrier!✌️💖 I remember being glued to the coverage of this disaster. Over 1/4 million people dead. Nate Berkus, Oprah's interior designer who was also on her show all the time, was there and lost his partner, Fernando. He was the first person I saw tell his story of that day on her show. I am sure it's on YouTube. If you want a first hand account, Nate's story... still just the thought of it makes me weep.😭 Don't apologize for your tears. I would not want to watch a movie like this with anyone sitting there being all composed.😢

pamysue

I posted this before your commentary. Can't believe you came across Nate's story. His interviews with Oprah after the fact are heartbreaking.

margot

Hello! I've been watching you guys on YouTube for a couple years now and am excited to hear about you branching out genres! I see some people already beat me to the punch but I thought I'd pop in to recommend the incredible Spanish film Society of the Snow from 2023. It's also made by this same director (J.A. Bayona) and was nominated for best foreign films at the Oscars the next year . It's probably the one film I've recommended the most over the years because it's just so well done and I think everyone should see it.

Gaby

I had to watch this in georgraphy class when i was like 13 and I cried sooo hard

minkit

like other comments, i'm begging yall to watch Society of the Snow (Netflix) by the same director. It is MAGNIFICENT. I actually like that one more (as a movie) personally, though both of these are great. But truly, Society of the Snow has got to be one of my favorite movies and if you loved and were emotional over this one, it'll be the same for that one.

minkit

ngl as much as i love this movie, it is a thought i've had every time i watch it. the story is crazy so i get why this makes a good movie, but i would love to see more "true story" films about the families who lived in those parts of the world and were effected. Like, that's their home that was destroyed on top of all the trauma being experienced that were prob extremely similar to what this family went through.

Cal

I do need the boys to watch Mulholland Drive one day - Naomi Watts is one of the GOATs!! 🐐❤️ plus they’re gonna love it

Mariana Garcia

Please watch Society of the Show from the same director. It's based on a true story from my country Uruguay 🇺🇾

un.filth.er.ed

Americans are not prepared for natural disasters. The locals used what they had; doors, stocked hospitals BECAUSE this happens annually, and if a third world country needs something, they'll find a way. whenever I need help in America for the smallest thing, it's so hard to get a stranger to help. It's why I think I'm mentally the weakest in my family because I grew up here.

DantesInfernoTv

Thankyou girl ! Yeah I remember it like yesterday.. my family originally is from Soerabaja East Java which is southeast Sumatra (immigrated from Vietnam/Cambodja around 1800) but the whole family there has been either in the military or a official since the last 200 years but all that is still to this day in Atjeh (northern part of Sumatra ) and for Christmas my family that still lived in Java came to Atjeh for the celebrations . So Java wasn’t struck by the the 2004 tsunami but 7 of my family member that where there unfortunately died along with 220.000 others in Indonesia Atjeh after about 7 waves had hit them , with the biggest wave about 20 to 50 minutes after the first seaquake. But 2 years later Java was struck by a tsunami caused by a seaquake and then on December 22nd 2018 another big tsunami because a volcano that collapsed.. And then we haven’t event spoken about the surrounding countries. In this movie it’s about the wave once it reached Thailand all the way from Indonesia and he was about 39ft in height.

Alex Montrose

That scene of Ewan McGregor on the phone lives in my head rent free.

Becky B.

Oh my gosh I am so sorry for your loss. That is so horrific and traumatic.

Julie D

Amazing reaction, as always! Just want to reiterate how exciting it is that you're expanding your channel into other genres; selfishly, I want to see you guys react to all the things, so it's awesome to know that you're not limited to just horror anymore. Really excited to see what's ahead! As others have said, please never apologize for your tears! One of the things that makes you amazing reactors is that you're both intensely empathetic people--that's a feature, not a bug. If anyone can get through this movie without tears, they're probably a sociopath.

Alex Montrose

I think you guys would love Constantine!

Cellin . V

Hy dont worry about crying to much Im just the same , love you guys branching out . Hope you will put the Series Grimm on your Watchlist witch is one of my Favorites .

BleuMoon (Mod)

I'd seen this movie years ago and the only thing I could remember was how bad I sobbed while watching it. This watch through I was doing so well until her husband and younger boys found her and her middle son kissed her cheek 😭😭 something about that broke me. I highly, highly recommend you guys look up and read the interviews with the real Maria. Her story is so breath taking.

Miss Maya

I was 18 when this happened I remember all the footage and images coming in from Indonesia and Sri Lanka, it was one of the most horrific things I ever saw it looked worse than any apocalyptic movie :( it was their deadliest tsunami in history :( it's ironic tho this movie focuses on one white family, it always made me feel they did that as if somehow western audience will relate more to that.. dunno just underlying feeling about it that always bothered me about this movie when quarter of a million Indonesian people died. some of them even spoke out about it. whole generations of native families were wiped out. their countries and home and completely devastated. but this whole story centers on one white tourist family not really connected to this place at all or knowing much about it, and while I don't want to dimish the horror and trauma they went through for sure.. there is almost like a sens of relief and happy ending when they reunite and than just get to get out of there. but what of locals and absolute destruction left behind that it took these places a decade or two to recover from or maybe they still didn't fully? not many of their voices or experiences are heard at all in this movie.

Honey y Miel

I vote to have Tearjerker Thursdays lol. or cry-along thursday ; ; this movie always makes me sob my eyes out. they really nailed the atmosphere. the sound design really makes you feel everything so intensely. its a gorgeous and absolutely devestating story.

Honey y Miel

like so many others, I want to go ahead and recommend more "based on a true story" films- Society of the Snow, Jungle (with Daniel Radcliffe) which is an insanely underrated movie, chernobyl (the miniseries), 127 hours....

Honey y Miel

And another movie that isn't based on a true story but is an amazing movie that I've been trying to get more reactors to watch is CODA.

Snepaj

I vividly remember when this happen when I was about 11 year old. I'm Swedish and since there were many Swedish turist there it was all over the news. Not to metions tons of peoples faces on our newspaper who were still missing. The movie did a great in showing us the brutality of it all. Yet one thing they didn't show -since it didn't happen to the family- but which always horrifyingly stuck with me is how some people survived the waves only to be helplessly dragged away out to sea where they eventually grew too tired and drown.

The Horror Bandwagon

We are so sorry for your mood Dante! ❤️❤️Sending so much love your way. It’s such a tragic event so we understand going through such a traumatic time. We only hope that you’re doing okay currently!! We appreciate you telling us your story.

Imin

Over 200,000 people killed is absolutely devastating. I do remember this in the new but forgot how surreal this was. Especially to the locals.

Ana Fox

Incredible movie. It's heartbreaking in every way. (Sergio, you’re not an ugly crier. Don’t ever say that.)

LitaLongLegs🥀

There’s a horrifying but very informative documentary called “Race Against Time” in Australia it’s on Disney+. It’s known world wide to be the best account of the disaster.

Anthony

“Close your eyes and think of something nice.” 🥹

Ktr

Anita

I think u guys should watch Obsessed with Inde Navarette

Thalia Matthews

You guys serious need to get into the Kdrama world I’d react to if wishes could kill all of us are dead and train to busan

just juni 🚬

Please do its absolutely stunning film, heartbreaking but stunning. The director said himself that he made it for the survivors of the actual tragedy, and you can tell when watching, it truly feels like a tribute.

jaimie✨

i am so so sorry, this was such a tragic event & i love this movie for portraying this. my love is with you 🖤

Holly Gray

Always a tear jerker this one. Not sure how familiar you are with Richard Attenborough (Jon Hammond in Jurassic Park) but he sadly lost his daughter and grand daughter in this tragedy

Javi From 🇪🇦

I remember listening to the real Maria when she called a radio program in Spain to tell her story. She was so serene, calm and warm... no one even dared to interrupt her as she explained the impossible thing that had happened to her and her family. Apparently, a movie producer also heard that program and that's how the idea for the movie came to be. But the thing that game chills is when she talked about hearing that toddler crying... She thought her husband and her other two kids were dead. His son was absolutely terrified of her helping anyone else because she was so badly injured, but she still had the stones to tell him: "If these were your brothers... I'd want someone to do the same for them. So, even if this is the last thing we do in this life, we are gonna save that little boy." And they did. God bless her ❤️

MetalBabe Sami

This movie pulls emotions from me like no other movie has. It’s a true horror story that I couldn’t imagine experiencing.

T Zoom

Hello HBW! Long time YouTube watcher, first time patreon subscriber. I really love you including the natural disaster/force genre. I think you’d really enjoy the based-on-real-event films “Everest” and “Open Water”. I think these films contribute something that reminds us of primal fears. I love that horror as a genre can put us into every emotional space and can truly be the most fantastical (and fun) fiction. However, true-to-life stories always hit me so hard for how real they feel and for how much I’m reminded I am just a tiny speck in the face of nature’s power.

Nyantri

this movie sincerely hits me every time i rewatch it. it’s such a good movie even though the situation itself is tragic. personally Naomi Watts is such a phenomenal actress and young Tom Holland is so good in this role and while I do feel extremely emotional during the scenes with the father and the other two kids, something about the way Naomi and Tom portray Maria and Lucas’ relationship just gets me a little bit more. While I actually haven’t looked in depth to how serious everyone’s injuries were in real life I think it’s just the fact that Maria was so badly injured and she soldiered on as best she could immensely for Lucas. And then Lucas being with her in the hospital and helping other family members find each other. The ending is beautiful because they all found each other but the moments leading up to it is just all so horrifying and sad. I can’t even imagine the amount of strength and determination people have who survive these situations. What I really loved were just those sweet moments in between the bad stuff, like all those people helping clothe and carry Maria, the families being reuniting, the moment of the man letting the father talk on his phone. As sad as it is, this is a fantastic movie. Real life movies about tragic true story events really just hit me so emotionally…similar to the 2016 movie Patriot Day. Glad I got to see you guys react to this one!

alison

my niblings are the same ages as the kids and this movie destroys me every time. i cried watching this w yall again lol. so well done. and baby tom holland! glad you guys enjoyed
