Thank you for the support! You guys and grrls are awesome!

Yes, Max is Neo-ing him. At the end of Matrix 1, when he IDDQD'd after getting shot? You know the scene.

It's the no-look more than the one-hand that's really got to sting. The only way this would hurt more is if Max manages to add a few pumps of apple pie filling from the nearby condiment dispenser to the top of her funnel/warp cake without missing a parry.

Man, imagine if apple pie filling was a regular condiment alongside ketchup and mustard and mayo and "magic sauce" which is really just horseradish and BBQ sauce mixed together. Would I try a few pumps of apple pie filling on a hamburger? Especially one that had cheddar cheese and bacon on it? Hell yeah I would. A waffle or pancakes? I mean, I have eaten that. It's great. A hot dog? No, probably not. Unless the hot dog had sauerkraut on it. Sauerkraut and applesauce work well together, so yeah, I would probably try that. Though sauerkraut dogs usually also come with spicy mustard. I don't think that would work well with apple pie filling. Hmm...

Anyway, if life were a game, this guy would be surprised by how much XP this duel earns him, since he doesn't realize how many ranks higher his opponent is. That is, assuming the game doesn't give you any hints about relative level disparity, and also grants XP for non-mortal combat. Which games really should. Grant XP for sparring, I mean. I understand why most don't, because you could level in total safety, but if it doesn't then what would be the point in practicing? Like, schools for learning weapons wouldn't really exist if you couldn't advance your skills in them. This assumes, of course, that XP in a given game is simply a numerical representation for skills learned, and not some external system that functions as a sort of currency for purchasing level ups and new abilities.

Detla suddenly feels intense Fremdschämen on Earth

Chimera80

“Accept your acquiescence”? Doesn’t “acquiescence” kinda mean the same thing as “agreement”? What’s she supposed to be acquiescing to?

Chimera80

There are a fair few systems which have “weapon skill” completely separate from “XP that goes toward leveling”. Wouldn’t be implausible to have some form of “sparring can increase your skill (capped per day)” system.

Hmm, superalien speed might be a give-away, so Max should be careful.

Michael Obert

Stop your silly sword-swinging routines and bring it, dude. It's clear someone invested feats into the Dazzling Display feat tree (lol)

James C

Dude should have kept up with the unnecessary flourishes, instead of trying to attack. His best chance of hurting Maxima seems to be making her roll her eyes too hard and sprain something...

Sharien

max really is like "damn i was hoping for a bit of a fight, not a complete waste of my attention"

Daikaiju

"Ho! Ha ha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin! Ha! Thrust!" *Sproing!*

BJ

Well, she tried to take him seriously for a second.

JC Urza

So this guy is trained in stage fighting/dueling instead of actual swordsmanship? Cause this seems more for audiences to be able to see the action as adverse to "stick the opponent and not get stuck yourself" . Kinda funny if the whole honorable thing for that race is basically fencing for points in some weird social bracket system

Town Crier

I wonder if this guy is smart enough to realize that he is in way over his head, and that Max is showing him zero respect. Probably not. *le sigh* BTW, Pillsbury does a crescent roll with apple pie filling and frosting. It comes in a box, and some assembly and baking are required. I've only been able to find it at Walmart, so far.

apple sauce works on a hotdog if you're not putting much else on it.

akrasia

Do I really have to point out this should have been "Ho! Ha-Ha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin! Ha! Thrust!"?

Raymond Dannelly

'Pattycake, pattycake, poor swordsman, gonna lose this fight as fast as you can' I don't know, this seems way more drawn out than Max was expecting.

Geass

It's a given that she will win, but I believe it will have consequences.

Hugh Eckert

This makes me think of the swordfight scene towards the beginning of Snow Crash.

Christopher Upton

I was expecting the Daffy Duck Robin Hood schtick "Ho! Ha! Spin. Parry, PANG!" as his bill is pushed up and inverted

IvyReed

There are so many options for semi-instant apple. chutney, jam, preserves and apple sauce. I just can't imagine wanting to put any of it on most foods.

eddi_TBH

At least Max gets to enjoy her funnel cake. Sydney almost inhaled it.

Regarding your EXP rant, ever heard of Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis on GBA? You could do training battles, which meant that you created two groups from your forces who fought each other, but without risking death. Be careful though, there was a 'medal' that was only earned by gaining too many levels that way, which massively nerfed your character and effectively made them useless. Sure, Tactics Ogre Reborn (the recent remake of an earlier TO title) also lets you level normally from training battles, but in it the force you're up against is a group from the local area you're training against and the game has enforced progression based level caps.

Re the comment about apple pie filling do you not have apple sauce with hog roast?

Eric Loken

Actually, he looks like he plans on taking a long time to lose the fight. "So, are we going to stand around all day, or are we going to fight?" Reminds me of our D&D session the other day, one of our dwarves decided to start the fight against some suspicious 'knights', but our DM made him roll initiative anyway, and he got a bad roll (I would have given him at least the top spot in the initiative order, but eh, I'm not the DM), so one of the other players and I decided that he decided to stand there and posture for a bit before actually attacking. "HRRR! HAARRRR! HOO HA!" Flexing his muscles and waving his axe around the whole time. Very much like this.
