Thank you for the support! You guys and grrls are awesome!

This guy is supposed to sound a little vague, cause, well... his thought processes aren't human. I dunno if there's a word for "more than sapient," but he would qualify. What I mean is that his thinking is as much "supercomputer/ten trillion simultaneous streams of consciousness/thought processes" as he is an organic brain with... you know, emotions and hobbies and that other stuff that makes someone interesting. Or maybe boring, depending on the hobbies.

I have say, writing something other than fairly casual dialog is a real challenge for my particular skill set. I will say this though, those word bubble stacks he's speaking, with two or three different colored words per bubble, he's actually saying a single word that encompasses all those concepts. "How/When/Why" is a specific comprehensive interrogative, and his language has other words that mean "Who/What/How" or "Which/How Much/Whom." You get the idea. It makes for a thick dictionary, but he's the kind of guy who appreciates that sort of lexical precision.

But like I said, he's not just a space android. He can appreciate a good gooch joke.

The Sydney Kobold vote incentive is nearly done. I know it's been sitting idle for a while, but in the last three weeks, my wife discovered what sciatica is... and then more recently discovered that sometimes the early stages of shingles looks a lot like sciatica. That one's still up in the air. So I'm going to go get caught up on a bunch of vaccines before the current unimaginably idiotic and embarrassing administration outlaws vaccines, medicine, and science entirely, because maybe-shingles doesn't look like much fun.

Also, I went to 3 different dentists and ultimately got a cracked molar pulled. It really sucked to bite down on something just a little bit wrong, and that little crack... expanded for like a quarter of a second before springing back. Like, lose vision in one eye for a second levels of suck. Yeah, so I only put up with that for about three years before finally having to deal with it because the last time it happened the pain didn't go away. I'm proactive like that. Pro-tip. If you have a raw nerve in your mouth, don't go to a concert and stand six feet from a speaker the size of a washing machine that vibrates your bone marrow. That doesn't mix well with inflamed tissue. Directly related to that revelation, I learned that Tramadol has basically no effect on me. Fun times.

Also, I put my mom into memory care, which if you're not familiar with it, is like elderly assisted living for people with moderate to advanced dementia. I've never gone into specifics about my mom's situation, cause, medical stuff is private and I don't like turning my posts into agony aunts, but dementia is the primary reason I had to upend my life after my dad passed. My mom just wasn't capable of taking care of herself, and over the last year, she got to the point that I was worried that maybe not putting her into professional care was doing her more harm? I don't know, I've never had to navigate this before and I don't know if there's even a reliable roadmap for this sort of thing anyway.

SO. I have been busy outside of working on the comic. I know I've said this before, but hopefully things will start smoothing out and I'll get back on track with the vote incentives. Maybe I'll even write Tamer: Enhancer 3, hah hah. To be clear, I'd love to, but the vote incentives take priority.

Is it just me, or is the size off?

Michael Obert

Joke file found. Loading laugh matrix. Repeat. IGNORE ME! (Last time, I swear)

Jared

Mainly the "Amusing?" made me think that rather than thinking out loud, he is talking with the orbs. Which does give his lines a slightly different feel when rereading them.

Thomas Dorner

Looks like "someone" mixed the Patreon and the regular version ... ;-)

JasonAW3

Even superintelligent alien beings can have ADHD...

Torabi

Reminds me of The Board in Control. Their dialogue often has pairs of words connected with a '/', which sometimes are synonyms or have overlapping meaning, and sometimes have contrasting meanings. It does give a very alien sense to their messages.

Andrew Denton

Maybe ADHD provides the brain structure necessary to connect with the orbs?

Chimera80

yeah, that definitely felt undersized

Chimera80

Took me three readings to understand what you meant by "scrub" there - that usage is not one I see a lot.

Thisguy

I'm not sure I get it, or much that's happening in the third panel, some kind of looking back through the page.

Chimera80

“Scrub” in this case refers to the specific action of scrolling backwards or forwards through a movie or audio file. You know when you’re watching a video on YouTube, and you move the little “current point” dot on the timeline bar - either to a specific time stamp or just “backward a bit”? That specific action, of moving along the time bar, is technically called “scrubbing” (as distinct from just “fast forwarding” or “rewinding”). This entity apparently exists in higher dimensions, so he can “scrub” reality itself.

Ron Jarrell

Oh good, it’s wondering what happened to the security on the spheres too. I always thought “first person who finds them after the owner dies” was suspicious.

Иван Генчев

The term for "higher than human intellect" I know of - thanks to the Orion's Arm fan lore project - is Transapient. If you like hard sci-fi and black hole wiki dives, give it a search, and enjoy.

Alysandir

Hey, for all we know, Impressive Being is a woman herself and has experienced the magic of the queef.

Brittany Huckey

Seems like a bit going on in your life /s A LOT. take care of yourself. I will enjoy whatever you are able to post, whenever that eventually happens. But taking care of yourself is first and foremost

Town Crier

Is Harem fully integrated, or did she leave a few of herselves on Earth? I was just wondering how far her interconnectivities can reach.

Stephen Gilberg

It bothers me that you were the only one responding to that part of his post when I arrived.

davebarrack

No, the rest of her is distributed around the base.

Emberblaze99

"you/we wield the gun/you" - The Board. I love this concept, I think it's an excellent way of communicating something being *above* our reality.

Miyaa

This what I don’t get about Marvel’s Watchers. They have no sense of humor.

William Elliott

Oh good...it at least has a sense of humor. Math may be a universal language, but incompatible humor can be an issue

Jared Juetten

Good luck, Dave, with your mother's care. My grandmother passed after a long battle with Alzheimer's and my grandpa passed of cancer which caused dementia at the end. It's not pretty and it's not fun. I wish you and your family the best and I'll pray for your tenacity and connection with family during the tough times. Cherish what time you have left. God bless you and your family.

Gelatinous Cube

Wow, I laughed at that so hard. Glad I have an office to myself! Also, we've so far dealt with dementia twice in my family. It's different every time, and there's no "way" to do it. You just take it one day at a time. Alsoalso...I felt that tooth story in the...uhhhh...tooth. Last bottom molar on the left. Ugh. So much pain.

Terence Bryant-White

Sydney: "Uhoh, we may have an issue with the Hawking radiation leaking, this guy has gone full plaid...😱"

JasonAW3

That... would make a remarkable amount of sense... typical ADHD people tend to multitasking as a part of their nature, so...

JasonAW3

Er, I hate to ask, but... Why did he have to do a 4th dimensional scrub??

Anton Schleef

Hmmmm......this could get interesting. Especially with the temporal offset to the communication caused by parts of her traveling at FTL speeds.

Anton Schleef

True, we may finally get an answer to that question. Also, going by some of the compound comments it made, it seems like the spheres themselves may have some limited intelligence as well, as that was some highly advanced implied communication, far beyond what a basic machine intelligence would be capable of conveying.

Anton Schleef

I feel for you with your mother and I wish you the best in helping her. I also hope that I manage to be debt free before I reach that point in my life, so that I can just die (peaceably or otherwise) without leaving someone else paying off my debts.

Ron Jarrell

Yea there’s definitely a “one side of the phone call” feeling to that like. Like he’s,saying “what happened to you? Where did you go? How did this one get you, you should be locked? What do you mean she’s interesting? You intend to stay with her?”

Steve Brinich

It looks like "scrub" is being used in the sense of "navigating the timeline of a recording" (in this case, looking back into the past) because Ol' Tablehead wanted more information ("INSUFFICIENT").

LucasTheLost

Post human, trans-human Post-sapient, trans-sapient. Minus the minus!

LucasTheLost

Is this the part where they scrub back a few million years and drop a spatio-temporal highlighter/life-support sphere set at the bottom of some crater? Or maybe just a couple years.

Jeffrey Hoover

Wow. We can wait, take care of you and your family!

Thisguy

Thankyou. It’s not a definition I was familiar with.

Mathew Aaberg

As someone who was a dental assistant for a decade can conform that the bite stick test can feel like a small electric shock up to axe to the face.

Hurley

As someone who's had to put their own parent into full-time care, I can sympathize and also say that there's basically no way to ever really know when the right time is, or whether you were too late. It's just one of those anxieties I think we all wind up dealing with sooner or later. It sucks but it does generally get easier to deal with as time goes on. Just recognize for yourself that you're doing the best you can, and that you mean the best for your parent. (And perhaps talk to a therapist, if you have the time and money in this country.)

Hugh Eckert

That really sucks about the dementia- my mother in law went that way and it was hard on my wife and her sisters. What with that and the other medical stuff, please take care of yourself.

eddi_TBH

They got the joke. Now they know why the orbs want to stick around. Time to setup a link so they can create highlights reels for other Nth tech users.

akrasia

I second the unofficial christening of Ol' Table head. Good show, old bean!

akrasia

Anyone who can laugh at a good gooch joke can't be all bad.

SerBob

Transapient is one of the terms for like the next stage of sapience, from Orion's Arm.
