Thank you for the support! You guys and grrls are awesome!

Cora means Max could take on everyone physically, but a like any good adventuring parties, quite a few of them have indirect powers, or things like crowd control debufs, or can turn into mist, or just cast crazy ritual magic with all kinds of oddball effects. Even so, Max's speed could probably mitigate most all of that. Cora wasn't doing a deep tactical analysis, just trying to get everyone to understand why she has confidence in her scheme.

I'm sure I've heard the name Destra somewhere, but I can't pluck it from the pinkish-gray folds I keep most of my stuff in. It's probably an evil My Little Pony or a Rule 34 G.I. Joe's Destro in an adult gender-swapped comic I definitely accidentally stumbled across a decade ago. You know how the internet is, always throwing those Rule 34 adult comics at you. I guess I don't have to specify "adult" if it's Rule 34. Anyway, Destra is the big demon chick. I'm sure most of you would have guessed that. Celestabelle is obviously the angel girl with the guitar, and Destra doesn't really sound like a Valkyrie's name. I guess the blue demon chick could have been Destra, but Destra is a brawler's name. Blue looks more like a, uh... I don't know, alchemist? Or maybe someone with a bunch of wands strapped to the small of her back. Javelina could be the Valkyrie, if it was pronounced with a hard "J," but in this case it's pronounced as an "H." I guess her half-orc side is Hispanic. Or, some other nationality tied to a language that pronounces J's as H's. Like who the heck knows what Undercommon sounds like? I always assumed it involved a lot of consonants and that "hock a loogie" sound that some Middle-Eastern languages have. I guess that would also be a consonant? But maybe Undercommon is a romance language that sounds closer to Castillian Spanish than someone cursing in German cause they just slammed a door on their thumb.

Probably everyone in that room thinks they could eek out a victory against everyone else, maybe assuming favorable conditions. That doesn't mean they don't recognize Gaxgy as probably the biggest threat physically, and are over him reminding everyone about it. Modesty is his dump skill.

Javelina lacks that particular adventurer confidence, even though she's smart and a curiously powerful mage. She's one of those adventurers because she repeatedly finds herself in the position of being able to help, but is far from an adrenaline junkie.

Ah, so this is the "violence" half of "sex and violence".

With adventurers like this you're just one poorly worded sentence away from a battle royale at any time

codesurfer

darn it cora why couldn't you just suggest a quick arm wrestle

Michael Obert

They're high level adventurers, meaning that this bet is even pointless for anything other than thrills. They've got enough weatith in gewgaws among them to buy and sell planets

Anton Schleef

Doesn't that describe most of the fun adventurers? At least, once you have them in a group larger than an adventuring party? Well, unless they're part of a certain Wizard's Guild, then just about the only party size small enough to avoid it is either only a single DPS, a romantically involved couple, or said couple with their kid(s).

Let Gaxgy have a go at Max solo, best case scenario he has to spend a few days before he's allowed/able to move his jaw. :P The others get to see him humbled and Maxima gets to shut him up. Wins all around. Well except for Gaxgy I suppose.

Jathby Dredas

On Destra origins, the distaff counterpart Rule 34 is technically Rule 63.

Brett Peirce

He learns a bit of humility? Or you think he wouldn't learn?

Rhitta

It would be a pleasant surprise, he seems kind of one-note right now.

Stephen Gilberg

I suppose both rules could be in play. Rule 63 doesn't imply raunchiness.

Well. It could be why so much music and music videos have gone off the air on TV and cable... Too much sax and violins...

Less fun when there are holes in ship as a result of the battle royale. Which is why there are specially reinforced rooms in the station. I'm slightly surprised that Cora doesn't have one on the ship, but then maybe that's a subtler method of keeping the fights down. At least, when these guys are aboard. "You can't have a fight now because the ship won't take it. Wait until we dock." Later, maybe it doesn't seem there's as much of a reason to throw down.

Richard Riley

I think he'd like that too much.

William Elliott

Definitely getting "Rule 34ish Deathclaw" vibes from Destra... just sayin

"Cora... two questions: 1. How long can he survive in vacuum. And 2. If a Gaxgy sized hull breach occurs, does the ship automatically put up a Star Trek style forcefield, or is everyone going to experience the joys of explosive decompression?" Side note, I think I read somewhere the sci-fi massively overstates what would happen in explosive decompression (i.e. everything suddenly and violently being sucked into space), and that the primary problem is simply that suddenly the atmospheric pressure is going to be *much* lower than it was a moment ago. Simply the problem is that the air being sucked out probably isn't powerful enough, or going to last long enough, to suck everything in the room out with it. Something next to the breach - or involved in the breach - is more likely to go out the hole, but the shuttle in the middle of the room isn't moving, and people around the room will definitely feel a strong wind, but it probably wouldn't be enough to suck an adult human out the hole, and even if it is that strong, it would be over in a couple seconds (depending on the size of the room) and then they would be back to being without air. The Expanse did well with the Donnager battle. Suddenly the one guy's head was gone, and there were two holes in the room. Smallish holes, but no one was being sucked out the holes, they just had to plug them fast or whoever wins the battle is no longer going to personally matter to them. Also apparently people don't explode in the vacuum of space. Burst surface blood vessels, probably bad things happen to your lungs, nose, and throat, flash freezing going from a warm ship to near absolute zero, possible flash frying on the side facing the local star (depending on distance and star's output), and possible bombardment with hard radiation... along with asphyxiation. But no explosion.

Under normal circumstances, Cora doesn't have anybody aboard who can do more than put a massive dent in the hull. Interior walls might still fall though.

eddi_TBH

Javelina is wondering why some species don't have warning flags on their tails.

Forecaster

He knows he could just hire someone to model for him while wearing a glamour or hologram that makes them look like gold, right?

LucasTheLost

Destra? Wasn't there a female counterpart to Destro in GI Joe? Doesn't look like it. Maybe I was thinking of The Baroness?
