Thank you for the support! You guys and grrls are awesome!

Maxima can obviously move really fast, and inertia has minimal effect on her organs, at least when she's providing the acceleration and vector changes via her own power, but there's a limit to how tightly she can corner relative to her velocity. She has to drop it to right around mach 1 to pull the 3 dimensional S turn coming out of the hanger there, especially because she's not planting her foot against something then kicking off, like you might do if you were trying to tightly maneuver in a swimming pool or something.

Max better hope that guy on the docks isn't one of those proactive paranoids. Unlike your normal conspiracy theorist who just gets their marching orders from... I don't know, Facebook I assume, the proactive ones might do something like check the dock security cameras. Now, on Earth, 95% of security cameras are just good enough to capture the broad strokes, you know, a truck pulled up to the loading bay, 3 guys got out, and maybe they were black or maybe they were wearing ski masks, but it's too low res to really tell... actually I'm sure you could get "Caucasian" balaclavas if you went looking for them... anyway, the point is that very few systems record at 8K and 120 FPS. An alien tech security system most likely will still use the cheapest cameras available, but their Fischer Price camera might be something that captures video 64K resolution and 800K frames per second, because their computational, compression and storage tech is a thousand years ahead of ours.

Not sure how hard she is trying to hide from the people on Earth that she joined this space arena match, but I imagine a lot of people on Earth will be wondering why she joined this battle so briefly and a lot who know about the match will figure it out.

Modern consumer-grade security cameras are actually a lot better than they used to be. We're not at CSI "Zoom in, enhance, all right we got the perp's reflection in the eye of a fly that was zipping by!" level, but cameras that are within affordable price ranges can actually pick up good levels of detail. Probably not enough to see more than a blurry shape moving at Mach 1, but still.

Babezilla wakes up in ArcJail: "How did I get here? Where is my phone and who took my new bikini?!"

William Elliott

hope she doesn't forget to change her "skin" back to disguise mode...

Modern security cameras (commercial ones, where footage is stored for 14+ days) have advanced to either 720 or 800x600 at 30fps because storing 14 camera feeds for multiple weeks is still the primary constraint. Video data is a lot of data, especially in busy semi-public places or offices. Some cameras do have IR, and that might be what catches Maxima

Czarzhan

She remembered to change it to invisible mode. I'm just wondering if she'll remember to switch from invisible to disguise before getting in view of the arena cameras.

That's General L. P. Noises, *sir* 🫡

And very importantly: “Is my stream still live?!”

I bet Sydney also hates the food – especially their tacos – at Jack in the Box.

Y'all both beat me to it. I've been working in Corrections since 1999 and have been witnessing first hand how security cam technology has advanced. 25 years ago, Dave's comments would have been accurate, but these days the cameras and associated software can take a 360 fish-eye camera view, digitally zoom to any particular part of the picture and rotate/enhance it, change the angle of the picture... it's not quite STTNG holodeck level technology but it's unbelievable compared to what we had 25 years ago. Also, the cameras are night vision capable even without IR. Even body cameras are terrifically advanced now, once we had to go get the handheld video cameras if we needed to record something going on up close, now everyone has a video cam on their chest with a 12+ hour battery life.

Hell, if you want 4k, Ubiquiti can do 60 days worth of storage for 24 cameras on their entry level NVR. The newer top of the range one can do 50 4k cameras and deep learning neural network image classification. (marketed as AI, but "that's a Honda Civic with license plate "804 DEX" from Washington state", "that's a person"," that's a trash panda")

Ummmmm.... Is Dabbler somehow back on Earth with Anvil? That's... not right? Or am I mistaken somewhere?

Brett Peirce

@requsitecoffeedrinker Unless they remove it

Ebonbolt

Dabbler never left. It's Cora who's been upholding the "harrass Maxima with innuendo" task on this trip.

Hugh Eckert

If you want "Caucasian balaclavas", I suggest looking at certain photos taken on the DC Metro during the 4th of July weekend. >:-( Also, Anvil's response to Dabbler's trolling? Perfect!

Sharien

hmmm are those two hangar guys mass effect keepers?

M. Lampi

Dabbler's fingers are semi-transparent. A new look?

davebarrack

But how can she be 5,000 light years away at the same time? (Sydney's Aetherium Causway isn't common knowledge)

Eric Loken

The Keepers here are more talkative than the ones on the Citadel Station. Of course maybe it was just that they always talked to each other and it was in a way no one else could detect, so we're just seeing what they are saying here but didn't get on Citadel.

Eric Loken

Makes one wonder about the origins of Gateway Station and if people should be concerned about that. Of course with the general level of technological and magical firepower in the galaxy in the Grrlverse, I don't think the Reapers would enjoy trying to invade.

Sharien

well these guys also talk, so definitely pre-reaperization keepers^^ so if the reapers happened (and the "fel" definitely sound reapery) they are a threat the galaxy mostly swatted away ... and lets be real - max would probably make them cry^^

Jared

Certainly agree it's a ridiculous conclusion to jump to, but not counting the aliens just visiting, from what we've seen of most of the people who would even be able to get access to watch the match and be particularly interested enough to notice the coincidence it feels like a conclusion they would be willing to jump to. The how would leave them confused, but since there seems to be a few options to travel that distance instantly some will assume Arc got a method.

eddi_TBH

Max is a one punch wonder.

Steve Brinich

True, but the people who think there's something fishy going on are going to come up with all sorts of species of fish, and the right answer could get lost in the noise. It's like the hints about Sydney's orbs being Clarke's Third Law Nth tech -- the readers know what's actually happening, but somebody out in the galaxy has probably heard of a half-dozen crackpots or con artists or honestly mistaken researchers claiming to have found Nth tech that never amounted to anything.

Raymond Dannelly

Looking back, I think it was Dabbler at the Earthside watch party that got me confused.

Eric Loken

Someone booted me in the head!
