Thanks so much for your support! For serious!

Deus: We're the two most attractive people in any room.Max: You wildly overestimate yourself.  Deus: I notice you didn't disagree about your comeliness.Max: I know what I look like. Deus: Pamela Anderson crossed with Xena. Max: ... }sigh{ Right. Besides, it's hardly a reason for us to date. Deus: Between your physical might, military position, and fame, and my own economic, political and technological resources, we would redefine the term "power couple."Max: Again, hardly a reason to date.Deus: It would make couples comprised of actors and/or musicians feel downright silly by comparison.Max: Hmm. I suppose that would be amusing. Deus: I challenge you. Max: You aggravate me. Did you know your new buddy enslaved Dabbler's sister?Deus: That was a tad petty, but for demons, I think it's roughly equivalent to pulling on a succubus's pigtails. Regardless, Parfait is going to get quite an education, tagging along from world to world with Thoth. I would expect the move was designed to make Dabbler envious of her sister's incipient adventuring career, but I don't know what Thoth and Dabbler's early years were like.Max: I can't help but picture them sharing an efficiency with furniture found on the sidewalk just before trash day. Dues: Hah hah hah hah! I was just about to say the same thing! With a bunch of pizza boxes stacked up on the wobbly kitchen table, Thoth running a kickstarter to get his "sweep the chaos from your world" business going.Max: And Dabbler trying to save enough to get her "Adventurer's First Kit" with the fifty feet of rope and the ten foot pole. Deus: I never understood that. How do you maneuver a ten foot pole through a dungeon?Max: Maybe it was collapsible? Deus: Maybe. Max: I'm still not dating you.Deus: I have a really nice caaaaar.Max: Hah hah hah! That wouldn't have worked on me even if I was still in high school!Deus: "Makes Maxima laugh." Check.Max: Are you seriously putting this on the whiteboard?Deus: We're making Pro/Con lists.Max: }sigh{ Oh my god. Add "You exhaust me." to the Cons.

“Max: }sigh{ Oh my god. Add "You exhaust me." to the Cons.” I'm sure that Dabbler would suggest that that goes under "Pros"…

Simon Magid

The problem is, this banter in and of itself really should go on the pro list. I think Maxima *enjoys* fencing with Deus even though she would never admit it. I am not saying that this is enough reason to date him, not by a long shot. Just that it kinda belongs on the pro list.

The grouping on the target post-it is terrible.

Sam Fleming

Huh, never thought I'd be on the pro "Dues-Maxima" ship. They honestly would compliment each other pretty well, and it would create some interesting growth opportunities for everyone.

Aaron Morton

hate these pages... I get it, they like to verbal spar. Or Deus likes to, and then run circles around Max. But, we know he's evil, or at least a corrupting force.. it's the literal scarred elephant in the room. He presses the magnificent bastard trope so hard, it's tripped into smug cunt territory.

Superman's lucky Lex Luthor never tried to get into his undies

Is it me or do Deus cufflinks look a little weird purple, blue, green, and orange I know that combination of colors mean something but I can't remember what

Stephen Gilberg

You mean "exasperatingly smug" wasn't already there?

Andrew

Can’t or won’t?

Dr. Otter

Has the "X" scar ever been explained, and if it hasn't, will it ever be?

Tim Malmström

I seriously wonder if Deus *practices* curling his upper lip like he does in the second-to-last panel, or if it comes naturally.

martin leske

the more he talks the more i want them to get together... how does he do that?

PucThePlayful

Deus: I'm adding "You exhaust me" to the pros and well...

JasonAW3

As expected, Deus isn't QUITE the bad guy as everyone thinks... I've always had an affinity for the complex, not quite, A villain, types...

Eric Loken

I would love to see how he thinks he can force human society into a kinder gentler path without unprecedented levels of violence and death. If he can get this tech, anyone can (and will). If he has supers, so do others (you think in this universe the Russians and Chinese don't have a bunch of supers in their military?) And thus, any war he gets into with them is not going to be "tiny and surgical". And you think for a second that the U.S. is going to just hand over the reins to someone like Deus? The people actually in favour of democracy will not be on board, and those that want a president for life won't be on board because Deus is most definitely not the right type of rich person (i,e, he's against racism, says very socialist sounding things, doesn't have a pathological fear/ hatred of powerful women, etc.) The biggest problem - as I've stated many times - being that most of the other wealthy assholes like him on the planet profit off human suffering and aren't exactly going to give up on it just because he wants them to. Hell, he is already trying to pick a fight with the entire military industrial complex and that's without doing anything particularly exciting (worldwide military spending is over $2 trillion a year as of April of this year, even taking into account a lot of that is for manpower, maintenance, fuel, etc. that is still an industry worth hundreds of billions of dollars a year). Plus, the wealthy aren't exactly going to like the idea of the end of massive wealth disparity (if everyone is rich, nobody is), even if you can still be richer than most people that really isn't going to be good enough for people who find being obscenely wealthy still isn't rich enough. And of course there are people who have power and fully intend to keep it. Deus plan not only means making all the other rich and powerful people give up what they are doing, and going directly counter to the inclinations of about 20% of the population (yes, basically 1/5 of the population creates most of the problems for the other 4/5ths) but he wants to take power away from the people with power, and forcing that 20% to stop being total assholes. FFS, these people get their panties in a bunch at the very idea of tax increases on the wealthy, or fair treatment for people not like them, and he thinks they won't fight? And don't tell me they will see how well Deus runs things and go "oh well, shit, obviously he should be in charge". Even if it is true - which I doubt - these people act against their own best interests as a matter of course, purely out of spite! They are the very definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face. Has Deus been taking strategic planning advice from Putin or something? "Don't worry, they will love you and welcome you with open arms! Just say the other side are Nazis and people will think you come to liberate them. Foolproof plan, work every time!"

Kaelzaad (Grizz)

I can't decide if Deus is a complete dickbag, or a genuinely, if egomaniacally, force for change in the world.

Harmony Petersen

Con list => Pro list With Deus, any pro list item can have "You are so smug about... X" added to the front, and it becomes a con. Therefore, Con list is always at least match the Pro list in size.

akrasia

...I wonder if the "make Terrans supers" modification to reality is just priming the conscript pool? Wondering why anyone would do that + noting that supers are hiring out as mercs now = somebody waaaaay higher in the foodchain than Deus wants super soldiers?
