This piece has been a pending selection on our list for quite some time, and it's one of my absolute favorite 'desert-island' pieces. Join me as I introduce Maurice Duruflé and his sublime Requiem. We'll work through the first two movements...the Introit and the Kyrie. I hope you enjoy!

Worth the wait ! One of the great works, not only of choral literature, but of the vast and wonderful French classical music tradition. It shifts between luminosity and opaqueness, and like Fauré's, conveys an atmosphere not only of peace, but of the acceptance and mystery of transition. (Also, check out the EMI recording of the Saint-Saens Symphony #3, on which Duruflé is the organist. Just beautiful.) And I have to say, the Andy Griffith theme interjection into your Amazing Grace interpretation as an example of parody was pretty insightful. *Great* lecture, Doug, and thank you !
