Video Production Update November 30th 2023 (Patreon)

Hey everybody! Just wanted to drop in with you all to discuss where things are at.

Last month I finally released my Kingdom Hearts Final Mix Review. Out of the many things holding up the Chain of Memories video, this was a big one. I want to do my KH Retrospective chronologically, including the additional content, so FM had to come before Chains.

That said it was lot of work to produce relative to the size and scope of the video (one reason I've probably put it off as long as I have). Capturing 50 hours of KH1 again in a foreign language grinding for both lv 100 and Ultima weapon was a long process. Having to cross check so much information with the translated sources as well made things generally take longer to put together; all basically for analysis on some extra-content.

Either way I think the video contained some interesting musings on design in general, which I try to get into most videos I make.

For some mad reason, this month I've spent my time recording another extremely long game for review. I've collected 60 hours of an RPG I've been wanting to talk about for a long while and I think it's going to be a very interesting review.

Now I wasn't under the delusion that I'd be able to record a 60 hour RPG, write a script and record it and edit a video in one month. After finishing recording the game, I was gonna use the last week or so of November to put together a small Back from the Dead on an obscure little game I played long ago.

Unfortunately about a day into doing that I came down with flu. I'm only just coming out of it right now. I thought I could maybe muscle through and still make the Back from the Dead this month but after sitting at my desk in pain for a couple hours I retired to bed for most of the week.

Thankfully it wasn't Covid like earlier this year but it was still pretty miserable. Covid happened when I finished recording footage for FF16 - which delayed that review. Maybe the immune system is somewhat weakened when someone is sedentary playing a game for 60-70 hours over the course of a few weeks. Even while maintaining my workout routine it probably doesn't have a terribly good impact on my body.

Anyway, you'll probably get to see this little Back from the Dead before the review of this big RPG game, but hopefully in December you'll see both. I think it will be a good way to close off this year's content.

In the mean time I made some Patreon content in what's left of November to keep you guys satiated, before I get back to the main content. There's been some controversy over the use of the new Patreon player for exclusive content here. The Patreon player helps keep the exclusive content, well more exclusive. That said some people miss the features uploading that content to the Youtuber player comes with, such as TV casting.

For now I'm gonna keep uploading Insider on the Patreon Player since they're shorter and a take longer to produce, but I'll return to putting Backlog with Brit up on Youtube again since, as it's longer and you'll probably have it on in the background doing something else, I can see how the versatility could be useful there. Unfortunately I couldn't do that on this latest occasion with Bebop as Youtube flagged it for copyright and it got blocked for viewing worldwide. As you'llI tried muting certain scenes in an attempt to avoid this, but it didn't help. Next time though I'll try Youtube again for the Backlog videos.

On a side note, I've started cutting segments out of the odd video and uploading them as shorts. I'm trying to experiment a little and see if I can spread some of my more self-contained points out to a wider audience, but also, if I'm gonna keep using certain terms I've come up with on the channel, I figure the shorts page would be a good place to create a sort of glossary for those terms. So rather than explaining ludo-prosody or digital apocalypse again and again I can re-direct people to these shorts. 

Pretty much all the shorts uploaded have lines re-recorded or segments moved around to better fit the format. I'm also not ruling out creating fully original content as shorts if I have something to say in just one minute. I always through vertical shmups would make for great short form reviews for shorts but I don't want to sell those games short either.

Shorts might be cool too for people who wanna share one of my hot takes around easily, so I'll be thinking of some TGB classics to throw up when I get the chance.
