Rogue One, as awesome as it is, has the distinction of being the first Star Wars movie where none of the main protagonists survive. A very dark outcome, but one that was necessary to highlight the sacrifices that were made to help the rebel cause. Did you notice the huge fallen statue half buried in the sand on Jedha, when Jyn and Cassian are taken to Saw’s base? At first glance it looks like a mountain, and it’s so big you may not expect it to be anything other than a mountain. Long story short, Jedha was the site of an ancient Jedi temple, and the statue, called The Protector, stood guard outside the temple. There was a battle that took place on Jedha centuries before the events of Rogue One, and the statue fell, left to be consumed by the desert. That is why The Empire is on Jedha…they are mining Kyber crystals to power The Death Star, and the Jedi temple is rich with Kyber crystals. K-2SO, the first droid ever with an attitude 😂. Love him. And R2D2 and C-3PO continue to be the only characters to appear in all 7 of the Star Wars movies you have seen so far.

This movie actually answered a burning question that many Star Wars fans had eating away at them for years…why would The Empire’s architects and engineers allow such a blatant weakness be built into this weapon of mass destruction?!?! A weakness so egregious that a single blast from an X-Wing fighter could blow it to pieces. Well, thanks to some brilliant writing, we found out that it was a huge sacrifice made by Galen Erso to hide this weakness in the framework of the nightmare he was forced to create. And Star Wars fandom collectively let out a sigh of relief. The Empire, a regime built on cunning lies and corruption, run like a well oiled machine with military precision, was not THAT dumb…just clueless.

First watch for me. Good movie!! Kate, you make every movie so...so enjoyable. You are as tiny droplets of rain on a skylit Autumn evening!

I liked how the end of the movie transitioned into the original scene of the first movie. That was nice. I often wonder how force fields were decided to be blue in color. Amazing scenes and sceneries as always with this movie series. Glad you enjoyed it.
