Hell yeah! Scotty still doesn’t know lmao

Thomas Thompson

This is definitely where I parked my car.

Tay Schumaker

Based on the runtime I am guessing this is the theatrical version?

Haha always got a soft spot for this movie. It came out the year I graduated high school and we played Scotty Doesn’t Know at the end of year party with way less chaos but still as many drinks. Road Trip is also a fun watch and was a few years before this one with some similar setup ideas.

Stoodles

I work in a Corporate office. I'm the Director of Safety for a large company, and yes, we do many "fun" events, but they're not mandatory, and we don't have any weird slogans lol. The company I work for is pretty good actually.

Stoodles

We have a Director of Employee experience who's favorite catchphrase is "Pizza parties don't fix pay issues. Focus on what's important to them."

JediLounger

This is the theatrical cut. The girl has a top in the hot tub. Speaking of hot tubs, Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) is worth your time. Also Sex Drive (2008) is another one of the 2010s sex comedies that I found hilarious. The unrated cut of that movie is, uh, wild. Also The Girl Next Door (2004) is another one that’s subversive and hilarious.

From Matt Damon’s AMA about the cameo “So EuroTrip was written by three guys I went to college with, Alec Shaffer, Jeff Berg, and Dave Mandell. And the three of them are three of the best comedy writers in the world. In fact, Alec and Jeff when we moved out to LA, we had this running joke where we had one bottle of champagne that I think they sent to us when we sold Good Will Hunting, or no, we sent it to them first because they had been hired on Seinfeld, so we would pass this bottle back and forth, we never opened it, but it was just to congratulate each other at these milestone moments in our careers. So we kind of came up together. I was in Prague shooting The Brothers Grimm, we were in rehearsals, and I had a wig in that movie, and so Alec and Dave and Jeff were making EuroTrip and they said "Will you come play this, you know, Howard Rollins kind of insane, bad version of a suburban, you know, punk band guy?" And I said "Yea, I'm in Prague". So I showed up and I'm sitting there, and I'm like "I'm wearing a wig, just shave my head, let’s just go for it." and we did it, and put a bunch of piercings all over. And "Scotty Doesn't Know", the song, was actually written by one of my college roommates brothers, and in the band, one of my college roommates is actually in that back up band, Jason, is playing guitar in that group. So it was kind of a family affair."

So my theory about the HR forced fun thing, is that the average size of a organisations HR department has grown over the past 50 years because of a increase in labor laws and not because HR is a very productive department and is mostly useless, so people at HR have to invent work to make themselves look useful. Its kind of like when you had homework back in school, and they forced you to write 1000 lines minimum, even though you could say what you want to say in 500. So you are forced to write and extra 500 lines to just pad your homework and fill that arbitrary mark even though its useless. That is why the HR forced fun and HR activities and reviews often feel useless, because they are. You just need to look at what the goal is, the goal is not to archive whatever the title of the HR activity is, but the goal is too just pad their homework. So when the department gets their productivity reviews, they can say "Well we had company team bonding activities..."

UnSafeStu

Always love watching the comedy reactions. Thoroughly enjoy how giddy George and Simone get.

8bitAndy

Great reaction to such a quotable movie! I was laughing all the way til I realized this movie is 20 years old... and now I'm sad. Anyway! Another comedy you should check out is Little Miss Sunshine. Different style for sure but definitely worth a watch.

Den Radar Ryan

I rented this on Amazon for 5 bucks just for this lol One of my favorite comedies and definitely isn't where ai parked my car. 🙃♥️📼📺🍿

Jon

… damn… that was pretty not good, quality wise (but few funny moments, I give you that) - can’t believe this movie win (and by far) over « Scary Movie 2 », « The Hangover 2 » or « Burn After Reading » (witch are not necessary awesome movies, but way better) but maybe it's a classic for people who were teens in 2004, soooo... like always, it depends on the audience, I guess anyway... I'm sure we can vote better, people :) because II’m afraid we gonna skip some good movies in the future, if we going this road

Florian Geyer

As a german I am pretty fine with the representation of my country. Drunk truckdriver is pretty accurate and on easter I march with the family :D

MoonageDaydream

So glad you liked this, one of the best teen comedies out there, and that’s a genre I’m not usually a huge fan of. I was cracking up at how hard you were laughing when David Hasselhoff appeared, I love that scene so much 😂

Shibby

I'm glad you guys enjoyed this movie, of all the late 90's and early 2000's teen comedies this is my favourite.

PDP1472

The US military loves mandatory 'fun time', and while most dislike it(myself included), if done right it can help break people out of the little cliques they tend to self-segregate into. And even when it fails people can bond over complaining about it. Kind of diabolical, really.

Ian Forbes

Always liked this movie. Just silly fun. Looking forward to the reaction. Hopefully my DVD has the theatrical release as well as patrons have pointed out that is the version here (the late 90s and early 2000s were especially annoying about comedies having multiple cuts in order to boost home video sales).

G P

Part of our senior management's performance agreements (and a portion of their at-risk pay) required a certain amount of 'staff engagement' - I blame this policy for our forced bullshit.

Fathervon

Ok.. To answer George's question in the beginning, I work in a corporate office basically in the Ritz Carlton Hotel but I'm not going to tell you which Ritz Carlton but as a culture of the brand, all over the world, all employees must recite and remember a thing called "CREDO" and remember the "Motto" plus the "Service Values" that can be asked to anyone during the day everyday. Which is a cult-ish thing but it's basically a reminder of our goal.

Skyruff

This movie rises above its roots in a genre called “screwball comedies”. Most of these are only worth watching because of how bad they are. Two that rise above are: Revenge of the nerds (1984) and NL’s Animal House (1978). Neither are as “nice” as this movie. As an adjunct Weird Science (1985) is great but more teen angst comedy the screwball. It’s John Hughes after all.

Jacob

I don't know, I've never seen this before and I thought it was excellent. And they seemed to really enjoy it as well, one of my favorite comedy reactions from them.

REDR58

It was discussed on the poll post for this movie that there were multiple versions. Both are easy to find on Blu-ray but maybe S&G had trouble finding a digital copy of the unrated version?

Patrick

I have had....the absolute WORST week in a while. I am so ready to turn off my brain and just have a laugh with George and Simone this Saturday afternoon.

Poddington

I do like this movie and like George said it's not cruel and actually relatable. The actor that played Scot looks and sounds like Hayden Christensen way too much.

Odd Thomas

I work in an office. I was recently told off for using gifs in Teams. Because fun = bad.

Patrick

To answer your question George, I went to business school at University and I can say firsthand that a good percentage of HR professionals have pretty bad people skills ironically, and think events like that will boost morale. I had a shitty office job (not corporate, small company) after I graduated back in the day, and our boss would buy the entire office lunch every single Friday. It was always something super unhealthy but delicious so I didn't always partake, but I thought that was a much nicer gesture than some "forced fun" type of event. Also helped save a few bucks considering we were all wildly underpaid lol

Odd Thomas

The best stoner movie is Smiley Face, with Anna Faris

maxthesilent

guy who played cooper is in justified hint hint

Lyle Morgan

Justified is such a great show, but really doesn't hit its stride until season 2 when the story lines aren't standalone anymore. Might be a slog to get through season 1.

BigGuy209

I had such a crush on Michelle as a kid growing up in the 90s. when she was in The Adventures of Pete & Pete and Harriet the Spy.

Chase Schleich

Before I start watching. What version is this?

Jessi

Not corporate but I did work in the upper levels of state government (the governor was my bosses boss, so, round there) and it was 7 years of just begging to be left alone to do my work. Mandatory "team building" and emotional intelligence in the office training...endless wastes of time followed by MORE leadership meetings on how to do these things AND increase productivity and morale. Bunch of ass backwards nonsense. It really told me that those government workers on the customer facing side are 100% working their asses off to do good...but upper management directives stop progress at every turn in the name of...increasing progress.... so. Yeah.

ExtraBigAssTaco

I can't remember if I have already suggested my favorite summer movie guilty pleasure - Baywatch (2017). Yes, the one with Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson. As a slightly tongue-in-cheek parody of the show, it's pretty surprising compared to what I originally expected. I find myself putting it on whenever I need something silly but bright and summery, while I'm doing chores or something...

Eddy V Ruiz II

I would not recommend the unrated cut of Sex Drive (2008), even the filmmakers, at the beginning of the unrated cut, recommend seeing the regular one 1st. The unrated cut literally just digitally adds naked women in random scenes. sorry for the spoiler.

Michael Short

I worked in a corporate job. we had friday night drinks. but it wasn't mandatory, however when you did go it was pretty awesome, you weren't restricted to one glass of champagne or anything and could leave whenever you wanted. I usually came, had a couple of drinks then left. lol

Jetofi

Who did recognize the warrior princess Xena?

Odd Thomas

Wasn't this a spin-off of Road Trip? While we're on Tom Green, you should watch his movie Freddy Got Fingered. You'll either love it or hate it.

Messenjaah

if you want to see another raunchy comedy movie with Stiffler you need to check out Road Trip. I mean it has the same actor that played Stiffler.

Our Patrons thought we were a myth. Well... They were MYTH taken.

🖤I also know her from Buffy like Simone does but that's not the thing I "know her" from. With actors we often see them in stuff and immediately associate them with that thing we saw them in first. Pete & Pete is the thing I associate her with mainly too LOL. I loved that show and did a rewatch of it a few years ago. Nostalgia left and right LOL. Brilliantly weird too.

djKENTO

Simone doesn’t know the Green Fairy… HAS SIMONE NEVER SEEN MOULIN ROUGE?!!?!? It’d do terrible cuz it’s a musical but FUCK i want that reaction now.

Spacecat44

This and Interstellar are both movies I've watched and thought "Oh shit, Matt Damon's in this?"

Michael Short

apparently matt damon was staying at the same hotel they were filming at or something lol

Logan Kerlee

Such a fun watch! :D This movie always gets me smiling. :)

Tim Nicolle

No idea why I've made the connection but I reckon you'd both like "Keeping Mum" with Rowan Atkinson as the vicar.

David N

Do you think george would know who I am if I change my user name to 111Aaron?

Pearl Jam

Wow, I thought for years that it was Hayden in this movie. I was about to make a bad joke about the sand at the nude beach getting everywhere but wanted to make sure nobody else beat me to it when I saw your post. Major Mandela effect happening to me right now.

MikeBdrx

Worked as a machinist in a large marine diesel mechanic shop. They would rent buildings out and throw parties for the workers through out the year. Nothing was mandated to be there but if you didn’t show up to one you wouldn’t be invited to go again.

FranciscoGios

I’m glad you two had a blast watching this 90s teen movie, I totally forgot of Matt Damon’s cameo. As for corporate jobs I’ve never had one, I’ve only worked in warehouses with some mandatory safety training but never funds as per say.

JohnB

Fun fact: Eurotrip holds the record for most penises in a movie. It least it did when it was released.

MacGuffinStuff

That's funny, I was in Bratislava in 2004, it looked nothing like that. I will say the eastern part of Sarajevo did though. The main part to the city was beautiful, but there were signs of the war all over the place, bullet holes, Sarajevo Roses, which are places in the concrete or asphalt where grenades exploded making flower patterns. But yeah Bratislava was nice, beautiful women too.

Michael Robayo

I love Cinebinge! It's the best movie reaction channel on YouTube.

Richard

I remember Jenny as Harriet the Spy. After watching her in this, my childhood was ruined lol

Kevin C

This was Will Hunting's alternate timeline. lol

REDR58

The woman running the hostel that pops up during the end credits is Joanna Lumley who is probably best know as Patsy in the very funny British comedy “Absolutely Fabulous.”

sheriffjt

Speaking of not being cruel, I remember a particularly good review of Road Trip from AV Club that mentioned the exact same thing.

REDR58

Simone and George I guess neither of you recognized Diedrich Bader who played the Mugger here as being in Office Space?

Poddington

omg that should be reportable to someone! Since Covid my team has worked remotely and we almost exclusively use gifs and emojis when chatting lol

Poddington

Just a story not really on topic, but working from home since covid I'm part of a fixed line phone and broadband company supporting operations, senior management and business partners. I started off on the phones in the call centre like most other people and as we were setting up remote equipment I had to test and monitor it before lockdown was announced and when agents moved remotely I also made sure it worked for them and we could continue operating. I started to notice an increase in calls being about 20 seconds long and watching the queues could see one agent reach the front, take a call and then for it to end 20 or so seconds later. We did have some teething issues such as customers not hearing agents and agents not hearing customers etc, so needed to investigate it as this was my initial thought. Soon found out when a customer got through to a particular agent that the agent did not speak to the customer at all and eventually the customer would hang up and call again. I let the agents manager know and the manager put the customer in to an "Admin" status so they did not get calls and after an hour they called the agent to ask how they were doing. The agent said things were good and they were taking calls and that was when the manager informed them what they did. Turned out the agent didn't want to work as it was a nice spring day and they were in their back garden with their kid. After they were fired they told a friend of mine that they had done it for weeks, but usually would just sit watching TV. Also reminds me of a woman in a different call centre I was at - when I was on the phones too - who was fired because she kept hanging up on engineers. She read a book between calls, but was hanging up on the engineers when she at good parts. One last part that I wanted to share as it was funny is a woman who fell asleep. Managers doing call listening for quality and compliance heard the agent asleep on a call and there was a period of about 20 minutes of calls where the agent got a call, the customer could hear her snoring so they hang up the phone and called again. Surprisingly that agent didn't get fired. She was unwell and on new meds so the managers wanted to help her until she got the dosage right with her doctor lol.

Pepe Contreras

I hope you watch Sex Drive (2008) someday, another awesome sex comedy.

Logan Kerlee

Wow! That woman was lucky to not be fired! Pretty crazy, reading that.. I know that if I passed out at work (for any reason) I'd be fired as soon as it was discovered. (I worked on the phones at a large end casino, up where I live)

FrancescoTakesItEasy

"Zussammen" - correct spelling is zusammen - does not mean "to arrange a meeting". It simply means "together". I didn't think anything bad of this movie when it came out. I mean, this clearly builds jokes around some of the broadest, and offensive stereotypes but as you say, it never feels excessively mean. The Fred Armisen scenes I can't stand.

Lood

Not another teen movie is also a great movie like this.

Gary Fixler

Unimportant reference info: the guy who drives them from Bratislava to Berlin (Croatian actor Rade Šerbedžija, who played Dr. Vladimir Nekhorvich in MI:2, the Russian scientist employed by Biocyte Pharmaceuticals for Project Chimera, who created the Chimera virus and its cure, Bellorophon, but I digress) rolled up and said "Where's the beef!?" That was from a series of dumb Wendy's ads from the 80s that people quoted to death back then (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FZNYXKHwNw). He also rolled up in an orange vehicle with a 07 on the side, a reference to the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard, an 80s TV show (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Lee_(car)). It's horn also played that same opening music. I remember kids had battery operated bike horns with a button that would play that tune. Anyway, the joke was that, being in Bratislava, they were decades out of touch with American pop culture.

Amelie W

I can certainly say it has become harder to like this movie as I've grown and our culture has moved forward. But the trick is, as George touches on, you have to recognize there's no cruelty in the humor. They use all these ridiculous and unflattering national stereotypes, sure, but the comedy doesn't come from "look at how creepy the Italian is", it just comes from exaggerating the character to Monty Python levels of surrealism. Anyway my favorite gag is when Bart complains about Scott peeing on his bathrobe and Scott makes a face that says "I'm positive I flushed, how does he know?"
