The trick to having a non-scary basement is to have bright lighting. 300 watt bulbs do the trick and compensate for the lack of windows. Now you can have a basement Simone.

Unfortunately what ruins the conjuring-verse for me is the real life Warrens. Ed and Lorraine Warren were real people who did make a living being "exorcists" and "ghost hunters" but they were notorious frauds who bilked people out of hundreds of thousands of dollars and openly mocked those that believed in the supernatural. They were also religious bigots who were openly racist and extremely anti-LGBTQ as well. Worst of all, Ed groomed one of their exorcism victims to begin sleeping with him when she was 15, and they had a 40 year affair. Unfortunately none of the movies portray any of these negative aspects of the Warrens because the producers signed a contract basically stating they have to show the Warrens in only positive light and they cannot even show the Warrens having sex in the movies. So the sick part of these movies is that glorify two people who are objectively the real monsters in the situation.

Love love love this movie. Thanks for doing it. I loved the completely opposing facial reactions between Simone and George. Please watch Conjuring 2 which some say is scarier than the first but I’m not sure I agree. It’s definitely great tho. Conjuring 3 is ok but nowhere near the first two. The Annabelle movies are hit or miss but I will say one of the biggest physical reactions I’ve ever had to a horror movie was a scene in Annabelle Comes Home. I won’t spoil anything but it involves a bride.

This was fun this was Fun this was so FUN!!! I used to sleep walk when I was a kid. For years. 2 nights a week or so I would wake up in a different part of the house. Nothing too bad. Worst was a few times woke up standing in the back porch in nothing but my underwear bare foot in the cold concrete. I woke up shivering. No big deal. I grew out of it. Haven't done that in 20+ years. My parents never disowned me. 😬

George - I left the Baptist church my parents attend, one reason being because the pastor at the time decided NOT to help a couple who were struggling to even buy food. The reason why? Because the couple were living together and not married. So yes, Christians being very un-Christian is sadly normal. Every denomination, every form of Christianity, all of it is hypocritical. That's one big reason why I quit going and decided to learn on my own. And being away from pretentious jerks helped me become more tolerable to others' beliefs. Movie opinions, well, still working on that one haha

I sometimes think I'm crazy because I love horror movies, but I can't stand these. Aside from the Warrens being awful people, I just don't think James Wan is a good director. This movie is just a louder, dumber remix of The Amityville Horror and Poltergeist. And Insidious is laughably bad. All his movies rely on cheap jump scares and blaring music stings, and he's really brought that technique back into fashion and that's all general audiences think horror movies should do. It's really annoying.

Conjuring 2 is where you’ll find out what Lorraine witnessed during that exorcism. It’s a major plot point in the sequel. Conjuring 2 is great overall. Conjuring is pretty good, less dealing with ghosts and more occult stuff but based on the real life case of exorcism being presented as a reason during a famous murder trial.

Random fact for George…The Great Wall has been investigated for paranormal activity. A group led by Josh Gates for the show Destination Truth from SciFi Channel did it in 2010. If I am not mistaken, it was the first time the Chinese government allowed a Western crew to spend the night on the wall for an investigation dealing with anything of the kind.

These movies are fine, but the "based on true events" narrative just kills my interest. The real stories behind the Warren's claimed stories are just so damn underwhelming. They should have just became fiction writers instead of pretending to have super-powers. The real life Annabelle (A Raggedy Anne doll ) locked in its glass cabinet is laughable to me.

I mean, saying "based on" doesn't preclude them from also being "massively exaggerated". You might as well just mentally append that tag to any movie claiming to be inspired by true events.

I agree with the various commenters who have noted that the Warrens were con artists and awful people, but to me that makes the movie's "aw shucks, honey" vibe between the movie's fictional version of them sort of funny to me, in that it can be read kinda like the movie is making fun of them (even though I know they're not).

I doubt Mrs Warren would have been on set consulting James Wan if she were horrible or the movie was making fun of them. People have their opinions and that's fine. I respectfully disagree and I'll leave it at that.

funny thing I heard, people who sleep with their feet exposed tend to have more nightmares than those that don't. lol no idea if actually true, but based on every horror movie i have seen and the fear of something grabbing my feet at night...I can believe it for the fun of it.
