Oh yeh Simone definitely knows what she’s doing 😅

Brian Sittler

The Simone/Wendy mashup is something special. Great reaction!

I love how Benny happened to have an extra glove and cap but nobody ever thought to bring an extra ball or two.

Ah, this movie is very epitome of nostalgia for me. The s'mores are classic Americana. What I think distinguishes this from "Stand By Me" is that it's more of an exploration of what a kid would actually experience with their friends. The story is not just grounded in "realism", but everyday realism. It's the general foolery of a group of friends during one memorable summer. Even their adventures with The Beast turn out to be much more commonplace than even they thought. It's normal life, but filled with the magic that imbues normal life when you look at it with the freshness and exuberance of youth. I hated playing baseball as a kid -- I mean I HATED it -- but despite that when I watch this film it fills me with such a love of the game because THEY love it. That's the magic of movies. BTW not to brag but my team were actually League Champions. I even still have some of my own trading cards. That didn't alleviate how much I hated playing that game even one iota.

Kane Is Able

They're constantly losing balls. They aren't constantly losing gloves over the fence.

And George, come on, get it together man... if you're gonna accidentally upload the wrong reaction, at least give us one we haven't seen yet! ;)

George is right. You do just need that one kid. I'm coloured (bi-racial) from South Africa, and I grew up just when Apartheid was coming to an end. I was 10, and switched schools from a coloured township school, to an all-white school - this was about 3 years before we elected Nelson Mandela in our first free elections. My parents just dropped me off, and left coz they had to get to work. I was freaked. All I saw was blonde hair everywhere. Never seen so many white people outside of a broadcast of Wimbledon. And this little red-headed kid bounces up to me and says, "I'm Darren. We're gonna be friends." I was best man at his wedding. I'm godfather to his kids. We're best friends to this day. He saved me.

That LotR joke at the beginning was a slow burn smile-to-chuckle-LOL. Nice one, George.

I do remember this commercial, it came out when I was at that special age where the emerging person I was was skeptical that a brand of sneaker could make me "Run Faster and Jump Higher" – but there was enough of a little kid left in me to secretly yearn for a pair with the hope that B. F. Goodrich's "Magic Wedge" held the secret to my NOT getting picked last... I think that was a joke for the Dad's that took their kids to this fun, fun movie. I think we should all get our – or go buy a – Ball and Glove and find someone to have a catch with... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rUFlXZzbE8 Ooops! I accidentally posted to the YouTube comments after watching the Patreon version (are there rules?)... anyway, not a bad sentiment for both comments :-)

Jonah

Such a great movie.

Simon Pegged Me

I am won over once again by George in a thumbnail. He looks like Pugsley Addams would look if The Addams Family and The Shining had a baby, and I'm here for it. Also, Adult Scottie was Pvt. Cowboy in Full Metal Jacket. For another coming-of-age film, I recommend Psycho.* For a another sports film, I recommend The Running Man.

Stephen

this movie is even better when you grow up watching it , saw this movie when I was around the same age as the kids in the movie

Roddy Hutchinson

Good movie, the best kids baseball movie is 1976 The Bad News Bears with Walter Matthau.

Oak

One of my favorite movies grown up as a kid.
