Going into this one completely blind but it's got a really high score on IMDB so I hope it lives up to that.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

If you enjoy this film then the ‘76 original of Bad News Bears is another recommendation. Didn’t see this one until my twenties but you can definitely see the nostalgic charm for those who saw it as kids! The sequels are hit and miss, no pun intended. By the by, a huge shoutout to David Newman’s musical score; he’s an unsung hero of many films people love (Galaxy Quest especially)

I know of one of my previous lives.... I was reliably informed I was once Alexander the Greats Chief Eunuch!...(obscure reference lol) On another note, I find it strange that I thought this movie was called "Sandlot Kids" my whole life, but it's just called Sandlot apparently... Also my weird child brain always confused this with The Goonies...

Jay

"About time ____ my clothes are going out of style" I still say that regularly:)

GBmain

Also the thing you're referring to on dogs are 'Dewclaws' and are essentially the equivalent of thumbs or big toes on dogs, they're mostly useless on domestic dogs and are sometimes removed by vets but in ancestral dog breeds it was believed they aided in climbing and gripping etc.

You guys gotta see Defending Your Life, I Iove that movie, George's intro tangent about reincarnation and bureaucracy reminded me of that one, a favorite of mine. And Simone's talking about Flula Borg, I think he's hilarious, who says Germans can't get to funny? He's done a bunch of great bits with Conan O'Brien too.

Zach Willett

People with kids let me know if there still make any kid movies with kids being kids. I don’t condone drugs or assault but there is a layer of grittiness that makes this movie feel authentic to being a kid and coming of age. My friends and I got the cops called on us once because we figured how to turn the lights on at the community baseball fields. We wanted to play at night so we weren’t baking like a toasted cheeser in the summer heat.

Prof. Writhms

George, referring your reincarnation remark… The late, great stand-up comedian Richard Pryor had a joke in his stand-up act very close to what you said. He said [and I’m paraphrasing], “If you get a triple life prison sentence and you are reincarnated, you have to go directly back to prison.” Pryor joked, “Never mind kindergarten! Get your little ass back to prison!”

Marley Shelton is in a fun film called Planet Terror, hugely underrated horror and half of the Grindhouse double bill (the other being Tarantino's Death Proof, also brilliant).

Martin Roca

Oh boy... i grew up with this movie. The name of the movie in my language was Prohibido pasar, Hercules vigila, witch means: No trespassing, Hercules watches. But because it's made for kids the title makes sense i guess hahaa

Odd Thomas

The Natural and The Rookie (2002) are the two best baseball movies imo, closely followed by A League of Their Own

Bob Loblaw

Is there a reaction version?

JK

Getting reuploaded. They accidentally posted the Rocky 3 YouTube edit with the thumbnail for The Sandlot

MacGuffinStuff

That's a funny coincidence, James Earl Jones' likeness portrayed over Jimmie Foxx in that photo with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx is who Tom Hanks' character in A League Of Their Own is based on.

Jimmie V

I love how much Simone loves fretless bass which was used a lot of in scoring around this time.

beefjerkywizard

For Love of the Game should be added to the list. It's a baseball movie directed by Sam Raimi

BangDroid

Some movies are nostalgic, some are like Heisenberg's blue meth of nostalgia. This movie, to me, is like fentanyl. Something about when I watched it when I was a kid, and for so many years was unable to watch it but thought about it all the time, and only very recently saw it again (I'm talking 20+ years), stirs the most pure and emotionally moving nostalgia. I'm not sure it's even nostalgia anymore, I don't know what it is, but I wish I could capture it, and feel it forever.

JamesJ

Now that you've seen The Sandlot, I recommend checking out Logic's "Homicide" music video.

Odd Thomas

James Earl Jones was also in Field of Dreams, so I'm guessing he's a big baseball fan (edit: apparently he hates baseball, lol)

Brad Lowry

George, if you haven't seen "Minority Report" put it on your list. If you have seen "Minority Report" do contact it's screen-writer, because a world where you have a Karmic Account that you have to start dealing with at birth is right up her/his alley. The beginning of the movie can be the weaker version of that, where some think it's great but others think it a terrible overreach of technology ("Can you say, "AI"). That's some nice core tension but the world has adjusted as best it can, like the beginning of "Children of Men". Then the next step – the main conflict of the movie – is that babies are going to be put in prison for the, say, Murder-Suicide (pick one from the papers). I think you may have something...

Odd Thomas

Here's some nerdy trivia: Arliss Howard, who plays the announcer at the start/end, is the guy who got eaten by the baby T-Rex in The Lost World (he's such an underrated actor. He's also in Moneyball, Full Metal Jacket and a movie called Wilder Napalm which is so good but has been lost to time and is really hard to get hold of)

BigGuy209

this movie is a staple from my childhood. love this movie.😎🤙🏻

Brad Lowry

Apologies to others that may have shared this on the "Money Ball" posts: Those various guys throughout "Money Ball" that were continually spitting into a paper cup that was always conveniently right beside them? That's what an Adult that pushed past the Throw-Up Stage of using chewing tobacco looks like. Indeed, other than maybe Rodeo Cowboy, I would dare say that some sort of professional Base Ball Lifer correlates closest to "Chewing Tobacco User".

Mastervodo

Dennis Leary was a stand-up comedian before he got into acting. He's been in several things. He was in the "Amazing" Spiderman movies. Demolition Man. He does voice acting as well. He was in A Bug's Life, and does the sabretooth in the Ice Age films.

Brad Lowry

I do remember this commercial, it came out when I was at that special age where the emerging person I was was skeptical that a brand of sneaker could make me "Run Faster and Jump Higher" – but there was enough of a little kid left in me to secretly yearn for a pair with the hope that B. F. Goodrich's "Magic Wedge" held the secret to my NOT getting picked last... I think that was a joke for the Dad's that took their kids to this fun, fun movie. I think we should all get our – or go buy a – Ball and Glove and find someone to have a catch with... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rUFlXZzbE8

John

This is a great movie, two other baseball movies I would strongly recommend are The Natural and Major League.

REDR58

I’m surprised that George is more familiar with Carlin who has been dead since 2008 and not Leary!

REDR58

I’ve never heard people around me here in the US northeast using the term “sandlot.” It apparently originated in California but it must still be a regional thing. I’ve been familiar with the term for years since I first heard of this movie when it came out (but never saw it) and knew what it meant as well in the years since.

Patrick

This movie is so nostalgic for me. The whole scene at the pool always makes me laugh, because I definitely remember being this age and having a crush on an older girl who seemed unattainable.

Tyler Mckenzie

Little Giants is another great movie you should watch

FranciscoGios

I was so excited for you guys to react to this early 90s movie. Tree Houses A.KA Club Houses were popular back in the late 80s early 90s kids for playfulness and imagination; I would play outside sports only to be active and not be a trouble maker. So having a full team with your closest friends for me was like being in heaven, it was the only way you would talk or have a conversation with your closest friends. Rockie of the Year (1993) is another baseball film.

Logan Kerlee

This is for sure a childhood fave of mine! :)

Lou Gallucci

The ball they lost is worth 30k today before they scuffed it up :O

REDR58

Simone: fireworks too loud? Just get some of those foam earplugs that you pinch and they expand in your ear! Works great!

REDR58

Yeah the titles used for release in other countries are sometime a little odd

REDR58

Starwipe…and cut!

REDR58

Great reaction. And you two REALLY need to watch Stand By Me. Don’t even wait.

Raven Dark

What a fun reaction! I'd never seen this movie before either, so it was great to see it for the first time with you two. Having seen your reaction to this, you guys have got to react to The Mighty Ducks. It's a Walt Disney film from 1992, but it's about hockey instead of baseball. It has a sequel and a third as well. The third one is just sort of meh, but the second is as good as or better than the first. I'd stop at 2. I think you guys would really enjoy both films.

Tenn Seven

You're killin' me, Smalls!

Jomero

Most of it filmed in Utah, in the States. I grew up around the waterpark the life guard was at.

Buhr

I still hope you one day react to Holes (2003).

Tanx

this movie was so huge for my friends and I growing up. still to this day anytime someone says something stupid or ridiculous someone is bound to say "you're killing me Smalls!"

Kyle Liquori

There's a movie that sort of does that. "Jupiter Ascending" instead of a past lives it's exact genetic matches who can claim rights to previous wealth.

CrimsonDTV

my little brother was once given the nickname squints. scrawny kid with glasses. and one day we took him to a cardinals baseball game where we met a Wendy look alike. Got a photo. Hilarious lol
