The Ted show from this year would be a good inbetween comedy series during the breaks for longer shows

Amar

"I sold the parsnip to a family with 4 small children" Best line ever!!!

JayF

This one is right in your comfort zone humor-wise. I expect you both loved it. A completely unrelated thing is the TV show "Better Off Ted" which is also hilarious, has 1/2 hour episodes, and would definitely make for great reactions.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Happy to be watching this with all my thunder buddies in the comments. Also will add to the TV series being a recommended in-between watch series down the line. The sequel is fun as well but definitely lacks the freshness of the first.

Tay Schumaker

Based on the runtime you listed and what I see, seems like it’s is the theatrical version

twe

on spoilers, simone is right, george is right. the compromise is simple, just label a post with "spoiler" - then the context tells anyone who doesnt want to know not to read it. it gives them the choice instead of taking it away. simple stuff.

Ethan Holgate

A spoiler is very different for everyone me personally I don't get bothered by minior spoilers as I'm good at blocking that out of my mind and watch the movie how it's made to me a huge spoiler is something that fundamentally changes your experience watching the movie like the ending of sixth sense for example

dieselbeast

You can't spoil films for me, I mean by definition of course you can but what I mean is I like to know what happens in films, (doesn't mean I go out of my way to search Google what happens) but if it happens naturally it's not the worst thing in the world, I've always been that way, its about being in control 🤷

Haye Zeus

The only reason to watch this movie is to have an excuse finally get into the all time classic Flash Gordon

Foodassassin4life

Yeah, this guy you're talking about is completely idiotic because at this point in time meaning the time we live in If you're not staying off the internet then you're going to get spoilers for a myriad of movies and shows. So this guy being on a post about Game Of Thrones was completely idiotic thinking he was owed anything when he's on a thread discussing a show he wants no spoilers on

Foodassassin4life

Also please watch A Million Ways to Die in the West

IncredibleBulk

the question at the start would be good for an AITA post and i would say youre not. if they had waited that long and not seen it then thats on them.

Thomas Yanez

Regarding spoilers, as far as I am concerned, once something has been released, then anybody that has seen it should be free to discuss what they have seen with other people that also want to talk about it. Good etiquette would have people label things as spoilers, or do that discussion in spoiler-labeled forums, but since you can't depend on people to do the right thing, it has to be up to the fan that hasn't seen the thing yet to curate his own exposure to spoilers. Also, complaining about being spoiled on something that is years old and that you have, for whatever reason, still refused to watch, is just bullshit. And, of course, people who intentionally try to spoil a thing, regardless of venue or time passed, should burn in that special level of Hell.

Diiirk706

Reeeeeeeeeeeallly Freaking NEEEEED this to lead to the show, because it is FARRRRR superior to both movies, and actually, bafflingly, good.... So good in fact, that we neeed people to watch, so we actually get a season 2...

Den Radar Ryan

Well this is a surprise for a baked Saturday morning. *high five*💭 📼📺🙃🤘

HUGO TORRES

Movie wise as long as the movie is still in theaters id say spoiling it is an asshole move especially for movies like infinity war and sixth sense but for tv shows id say u have a week until next episode airs before its no longer your fault

Dioskur

Sorry George, but you are completely wrong about the spoiler thing. There is no time span that makes a spoiler ok. There are uncountable movies and shows out there that center around a twist or reveal or something that can be completely ruined by spoilers. And no normal person has seen them all. Oh you were too young to watch GOT when it came out? Tough luck, you can never enjoy it as much as others did because George has allready seen it a long time ago. Nah, it shouldnt work that way. The world doesnt center around your time frame.

Orphan Crippler

I suggest "A Million Ways to Die in the West" another great Seth Macfarlane movie that actually stars him as the main character

11114422

on the other hand, just because you havent seen it, everytime you walk into a room everyone has to stop talking about the thing theyre a fan of because you personally havent seen it? isnt that a bit selfish? sorry bud, the world doestn center around your time frame neither. expecting people to know what youve personally seen and not seen, and not to converse about what they want to converse about just for you is insane. if a room full of people are talking about last weeks episode cause they all seen it and you havent, the normal thing to do is to walk out of that room. not tell everyone else to stop talking. just like if you saw a conversation online about a thing you havent seen yet, its your responsibility to fucking leave and not be there, not everyone else's responsibility to delete their conversation just for you. the world doesnt owe you shit.

JoshG

It definitely is a good show. But for me personally doesn’t beat out the movies.

Jon

Ted 2 is pretty funny too, you can watch it :( ... by MacFarlane, there's also "A Million Ways to Die in the West".... not as acclaimed as Ted, coz it's not as good, at least not as "punchy"... but it's also worth the watch, it's pretty fun, no problem !

Eric Mc Daniel

Another actor from Family Guy in this is Ralph Garman. He's John's dad, he did various voices in Family Guy, rarely anyone big. He was actually a radio broadcaster in L.A. for many years. I'd recommend looking up clips on YouTube. As for the show, it's definitely great, but the parents are very different than the way you see them in the movie.

JokerDanny

ted 2 and the tv show are good. Also you guys need to watch Men In Black 2 and 3

JokerDanny

Also the long haired guy at John's work does various voices on Family Guy.

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

To make it short, every movie mentioned here needs to be watch(Van Wilder, Flash Gordon, Superman Returns etc) and the second movie is ok but not great, mostly as they used a hated idea when sequels happen...the tv show is good and is a prequel to their teens years

djKENTO

Okay so the creepy dude is dancing to “I Think We’re Alone Now” which is being sung by an artist from the 80s named Tiffany. Tiffany had MULTIPLE infamous stalking cases. There’s a documentary with the same title as the song where they really dive into it stalker obsession in that case. it’s fucking BIZARRE. So a stalker also being a fan of Tiffany like that… yeah checks out.

Martin

Ted 2 is definitely worth a watch. Funnier than the first movie, in fact. And MacFarlane’s “A Million Ways to Die in the West” is a must-see. Underrated and brilliant.

Fuckerage

Actually we all here are kinda breeding example of spoilers here that we recommend movies we all have seen before

Fuckerage

Watch Artificial Intelligence By Steven Spielberg if you want to watch another talking bear toy

VinnyAhhh

Let me tell you watching this for the first time on opening weekend in Boston was an experience. Y'all often remark at Vancouver landmarks in movies and this movie is like that for people from Boston — people in the audience were already wheezing at the "Boston girl" joke early on. Reflecting back on it I actually had more than a few connections to this movie: * It wasn't until years later but I ended up living in Quincy (the town Tammy-lynn mentions while storming out of the double-date) for five years. * The (now) wife of a close family friend was an extra during the club/dance scene where John and Lori first meet. She remarked how bad it smelled in there and how silly it was to be dancing like that with no actual music playing on set. * I never recognized it, but apparently there were portions of the movie that were filmed at a studio on Route 128 which is right by where I lived. I know this because in the summer of 2011 I was working a job at the fancy local golf club and ended up meeting Mark Wahlberg and taking care of his clubs a couple times.

zak

The only Family Guy actor I caught that you didn't was Ralph Garman, he played John's dad at the start, he's done a ton of additional voices for Family Guy

Tippnasty

so since spoilers have an expiration date per George we can spoil movies put up for polls right?

Eddy V Ruiz II

With regards to the whole spoiler thing... in 1980, 13 year old me was waiting in line to go in for Empire and a "friend" who was in the previous show walked by us and said "Vader's Luke's dad" so that really happened and we never let him forget it. I dont think the term spoiler had been officially coined yet. At least I hadnt heard it at that point

11114422

no because thats directly and deliberately ruining something for someone, on a platform that is specifically meant for first time watching something. if this was a public forum for discussing movies, and not a private location that belongs to S&G, then yeah talk about spoilers and the responsibility is up to S&G to not read the discussion. how is that not glaringly obvious or are you purposely being obtuse?

Lou Gallucci

most online forums today have spoiler tags. if those're there and you don't use them on something you know is a spoiler then it's on you.

Ian Forbes

Ted 2 is a lot of fun. I’m down for it.

REDR58

Unrated version is about 6 minutes longer. Too bad they did theatrical, but I suppose it doesn’t matter that much.

Martin Nicholls

On spoilers I think it's definitely on you at some point. In the context of reactions obviously not, but IRL yep, it's you - unless you know for a fact the person hasn't seen whatever it is. You should absolutely consider the sequel if you liked this, Simone will like it for reasons.

W T

Spoilers are always supposed to be properly marked, if I'm not sure whether the involved parties have watched something, I will keep most things to myself. Same for popular spoilers - well dang, if you just woke up from cryo or something or are seven years old, how does that exactly help me in sidestepping random bombs or funny t-shirts online? I mean, it's not bad, if you can just reduce your movie down to a single famous reveal and ruin the experience, it probably sucked to begin with... but most folks hate getting spoiled and I always try and be explicit about where I post what. If someone might stumble on it, I try to keep it clean or at least vague.

Pendergasted

For some reason I really like this film.

MacGuffinStuff

Honestly there are a ton of great jokes in this one but the Flash Gordon bits had me laughing my ass off, because I also love that triumphantly cheesy movie with horrendous special effects but an awesome Queen musical score. If you guys ever watch that I'll lose my mind, I don't even care if you laugh at it the entire time, I'll love it

Michael Green

I genuinely don't want to get into a debate about the value of this sort of humor or who is or isn't "allowed" to make certain jokes (a patreon comment section not being the place for a 101 level queer cinema lecture) but I will say as a general exercise it can be interesting to think about why we laugh at certain things. Anyway, I had to peace out after about 17 minutes in after realizing this definitely wasn't for me, ha!

TokyoLopez

now that you kinda what know flash gordon is, whenever you get to blades of glory you’ll kinda get it

Tay Schumaker

Ted 2 is fun, more of the same. The show is actually really good. It seemed to surprise a lot of people and got a lot of positive buzz. Might be worth putting on a poll for a small show

lovemoose

In regards to george's question at the beginning, if someone just started watching a show that's still on-going or they plan on watching the rest of it, the number one rule is to not look at online conversation talking about the show. It's common sense!

Monica Alarcon

Yes I vote to watch Ted 2, the TV show and A Million Ways to Die in the West...

Odd Thomas

Ted 2 not quite as good but still fun and I second the A Million Ways to Die recommendation

Odd Thomas

My opinion on spoilers is like most things in life: never assume. Always ask if they've seen X first, because you don't want to be the "Darth Vader is Luke's dad" from The Simpsons. The 6th Sense was 20 years old when you watched it; would you have been annoyed if someone told you the twist? I think you would.

gobmob2000

The Flash Gordon film is bad, but its so bad its good and has become a cult classic, you guys should react to it. Apparently there is going to be a remake as well

BigGuy209

y’all need to react to Flash Gordon (1980) is a awesome film. Also should react to The Orville (TV Series 2017‑2022) which is created by Seth McFarlane as well.

David S

You can ask the person you are conversing with, but in George's case, he can't ask everyone who may read the online thread... the same as if he was talking in a restaurant, someone in the next booth can't cry spoilers over overhearing someone else's conversation. In the online example, if it's a current show, then yes, treading lightly with spoilers is appropriate (and the polite thing to do), but once the show has been over for a while and general discussion has moved on to the next hottest thing, the onus (am I using that word correctly?) has to move to the person who hasn't bothered watching it yet

Odd Thomas

I liked Superman Returns.

David S

I am an old school Star Wars fan (not so much any more, but I was 11-17 years old when the original films were released. I was 14 when Empire came out, and was already a huge fan, so we actually got in line at the theater the day before it was released. They had a midnight showing that night for employees and friends of the theater, and when that showing ended, and the audience exited and walked through the line of us fans still waiting for the next mornings showing. One of the guys shouted to everyone in line "Darth Vader is Luke's Father!". I think most of us thought he was joking, instead of just being an a$$hole. 1980 was a different time... The novelization of Empire came out weeks (if not more) before the movie, and being the obsessed fan I was, I had already read it :) PS: oops, SPOILER WARNING

Skyruff

Spoilers...hum... for me it gos like this. When in a general discussion of any topic there is NO timelimit on spoilers unless you announce first to give time or allow people to voice objections etc. This allows for looking up the general idea of a topic without being spoiled. If you are in a non-general area, example in a discussion thread of season 4 then spoilers for season 4 need to be announced, but for season three and previous are free game as you can assume that is safe as a basis for the discussion. In your example George, it depends on the name of the thread / conversation you were having even if it were just two people initaly. Basically, what is the mindset of those entering the spaced based on what they are being given as a direction of topic. In the end, people will be people and you will never please everyone.

Christopher Larimer

Unless you are deliberately trying to spoil something for someone else, you are not responsible for anything other people CHOOSE to read.

RipTheRipper

Requests: - The Outsiders (1983) - Emma (2020) - The Crying Game (1992) - The Visit (2015) - Garden State (2004) - To the Bone (2017)

Harry Fieldson

IMO if you choose to wait multiple years to see a show, you should accept bumping in to second-hand spoilers. It's not as though someone knows you're waiting to watch it and went up to your face and said spoilers. It's not even a small show in the example GOT was basically a part of pop culture.

Persnickity

Perfect movie to release on 4/20! Ted 2 is just as good; it has the same humor but new jokes. The TV show is a prequel series to the first movie. Its John and Ted in high school. The show is always hilarious

Diiego

Yes to Ted 2 and the tv show!!

droodly

I like Ted 2 as well. The comedy is still funny and the story isn't just more of the same. I third the recommendation for A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014). And also think you would enjoy The Orville (TV Series 2017–2022).

Mitchell Bowker

If it's a TV show that's still in active production, and especially Game of Thrones being one of the biggest shows which was known for shocking twists, it's probably best to be careful with spoilers. Also, as hugely popular as it was not everyone discovers the show or starts watching at the same time; this person may have been a new fan, only started watching and was excited to speak with other fans, only then to have future plot points revealed that may lessen the experience - I can understand someone's disappointment. My reaction to spoiling something by mistake would be "Oh my! I'm so sorry I spoiled this for you! I'll be more careful"- not so much "Well that's your fault for not watching it already", because it may sound a bit "gate-keepy". I can't assume everyone has the same access to the content I have or life situation that might make enjoying such content an option.

Chase Schleich

Definitely recommend that one. Haven't seen it in at least 15 years, but would love to watch it again.

11114422

yeah except George wasnt talking to the guy. that dude chimed in on other peoples conversation online then got mad for spoilers. thats dumb. if you care about spoilers and havent seen something, dont go online. dont join into already going conversations about something that may contain spoilers. other wise what, no one else gets to talk online till youve seen the show?

JayF

Couple of quick things. First, when Ted reaches back to grab his ear before leaving, there is a quick switch to the music from Raiders of the Lost Ark. A nod to the scene where Indy reaches back to grab his hat in the temple at the beginning of the movie. Actually they didn't say Flash Gordon was bad. When they were watching the movie what they said was, "Sooo bad but sooo good." I think you'd both enjoy it if you just expect some campy fun with an amazing soundtrack done entirely by Queen. There is a blooper reel out there that is entirely Mila cracking up in the car when Mark is saying that someone stole his teddy bear over the phone.

John McLeod

Definitely watch Ted 2 and the tv series is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long while.

Patrick

I think after enough time goes by, talking about the movie/show as if someone has already seen it is just a part of life. What annoys me is when someone INTENTIONALLY tries to spoil something relatively new, just to get a rise out of people. Trolls, essentially. Spoiler alert : BRUCE WILLIS HAS BEEN DEAD THE WHOLE TIME!

Allen Pass

I actually really liked Simone's measured reaction to this movie. She didn't laugh at a lot of the jokes and when the joke was intellectually low brow you could see the dubious expression on her face. I definitely felt the same through out most of the movie. Ted is not my type of movie, but Simone's reaction helped me "bear" through it.

RipTheRipper

kind of sums up my original watch of this...which is why it was one I had to skip... hoping for an upcoming streak of no skip reactions... it's been a lean month for me in that way..ha

REDR58

I had the Darth Vader action figure carrying case! Still have it somewhere in storage.

Patrick

Interesting. It's crazy how often that happens where an actor constantly gets casted into roles that mimic their real life. Every time I've seen that actor in a role, he plays a total weirdo.

DM DC

Great reation! You should totally check out Flash Gordon!

FranciscoGios

Ted 2 has the same humor, you two should definitely react to it. As for the spoiler question, once the content is viewed and after the first week passed of that content being shown you are bound to get spoiled, specially now where there’s different platforms to spoiled it for you not just people close to you.

Don Britt

RE: Spoilers - TL;DR - I think there's a point (and I can't put an exact timing on it) where someone has to expect that they might get spoiled on something, but I also think we should all try to not be the person who is the one who spoils it. If folks should do their due diligence to avoid being spoiled on things, you should do your due diligence not to spoil it.

Don Britt

Franchises consistently get new fans as people are exposed to it. They couldn't have watched the content before if they were unaware of its existence. For example, you guys are only now viewing Breaking Bad, but the season finale aired over a decade ago. Would it be justifiable to be mad about reading spoilers if you are on the Breaking Bad subreddit or in a comment section where the primary post is about Breaking Bad? Definitely not - you were asking to be spoiled. Would it be justifiable to be mad if someone drops a big twist in the middle of an unrelated conversation? It absolutely is - that person gave you zero opportunity to avoid it. "It's your due diligence to not read these things." I can't tell you the number of times I've been spoiled on something because someone put it out there in an unrelated comment. Not even maliciously - they might have just mentioned how some meme or YouTube video reminded them of that time when ((insert spoiler here)). How can I know I shouldn't read that spoiler until I've started reading it? Generally speaking, I think we all should be doing what we can to prevent accidentally spoiling something for others, whether it's been a month or a decade.

Manuel Phelouzat

Re : Spoilers : It's not about if you're a fan or not. I avoid spoiler (to the extent of not watching trailers). For public available information, I'd say it's the responsability of the spoiled. For direct conversation, I work with this kind of guideline : If you it's old enough and you don't know the other person did not saw it, it's ok. But if you know the person did not saw it and still reveal the twist, it's not. All it comes down to is comunication : if someone tells you they did not see it, don't explain the whole movie/serie/game.

Logan Kerlee

Had a great time watching this with you both! :) Lots of laughs with some type of emotional tug at the end. Good stuff! Looking forward to Ted 2, with you both! :)

droodly

Tom Skerritt? Not only did you see him in Top Gun, but he played decent sized roles in Alien and Contact. Bonus: If Simone watched all of the Good Wife, she saw him in a couple episodes as a billionaire Alicia dealt with.

Philipp Roensch

Re Spoilers: On public text forum I like to make sure to mark them or hide them behind a click if possible, there simply is no control when one might stumble over them. If you don't want to be spoiled though, I would not enforce a time period to catch up on, because generations are a thing, just avoid spaces where spoilers might be discussed openly. Cast reference for this movie: Sir Patrick Steward is famously the CIA Boss Avery Bullock in American Dad! also produced by and main characters by Seth. Ted 2 is good, maybe even funnier, I liked how this one is taking itself serious though.

JoeE

They should watch Ted 2 now that they’ve seen rocky 3

Starman Deluxe

I agree with George. I understand if I haven't made the time to watch something after a year or 2, if it gets spoiled for me, it's on me

Starman Deluxe

Nuke the whales! Gotta nuke something

Stefan Daniw

Please watch the Christopher Reeve Superman movies

JohnB

Spoilers: I think it depends. In the case of a series like GoT, yeah 3 years is pretty safe to talk about just about anything. But there are some spoilers out there that if you know it, it completely changes the movie. Fight Club and Sixth Sense immediately come to mind. Granted, I think a good majority of even people that haven't seen them might know those ones. But even that being true, if you know the person you are talking to hasn't seen the Sixth Sense and you spoil it anyway, YTA.

Brent

Flash.... ahhhaaaa please watch Flash Gordon! :)

Rafael Benedicto

That's the problem with stuff like GoT. It relies on mystery, shock value, and subversion for its appeal. Take those away (such as if you've been spoiled) and the show has much less going for it. This is why Shogun (which has been compared to GoT) is a much better show because it's almost purely character driven. I can watch that show again and again and I would still be mesmerized each time.

Morion Williams

When ever you post anything that may or may not be a spoiler, or if you are talking to some one lead with = Spoiler Alert We have trigger warnings for all sorts of stupid shit, spoiler alerts though, that could save lives.

Morion Williams

There is no "statute of limitations" on spoilers. Even if a film is 70 years old, there's still going to be people who haven't seen the film and would like to do so without having the twist spoiled. With as simple as it is to simply warn readers that a spoiler lies ahead, there's no excuse for not including a spoiler alert when discussing the plot of a movie (or anything else, for that matter). It's just common courtesy, which I know is often in short supply on the Internet.

Morion Williams

Sir Patrick Stewart... SIR Patrick Stewart
