Nope! Haven't seen it yet. Don't wanna pay the $25 VUDU wants and I hate the public in theaters. Waiting on the reduction.

brian burke

i saw it in theaters and it was good, but i expected more, i guess thats for part 3. but theater was fine. hope it goes well for others

After the first one, i wasn't sure if this universe was my cup of tea. But wow, this one blew me away. And Rebecca Ferguson is just incredible.

My friends and I flew over 2000 miles to see this in Imax 15/70. Only one in the southern hemisphere. Very much a book purist, but I can understand the deviations. Even when I miss out on a murderous 4yo Alia. I only wish they'd extended Pauls speech to Chani to alleviate her anxiety, also had kept Thufir in the story, would have only taken a few more minutes. Can't wait for Messiah.

Ken Schneyer

You guys are a riot, as usual. 😂 The change in Chani’s character (& consequent deletion of Jessica’s speech at the end of the novel) was necessary for two reasons, I think. First, that speech (which, as a straight man in 1983, I thought was incredibly romantic) would nowadays result in people throwing tomatoes at the screen (for good reason). Second, I think Villeneuve was intensely aware that many readers *perceived* Paul as a hero despite Herbert’s intentions. By making Chani a person of unshakable integrity, and having her perceive the ending as a betrayal both by her partner and by her people, Denis was able to personify the critical voice that should be (but so often hasn’t been) in the reader’s mind. It also makes her much more magnetic as a character. I think Paul’s remark to Jessica that Chani will come around eventually is a hint that this state of affairs might not be permanent, and that we may end up with the RealWife / FigureheadWife trope we expected. *But* it would be fascinating if Movie 3 begins with Paul genuinely / affectionately married to Irulan while Chani leads the “resistance,” yes?

This is roughly where the book ends, what more did you expect? A third film is sadly quite a while away, director expressed a desire for other projects and remarked the lead is to young for the second book which takes place years after the end of this movie.

Nat B

Yes! You really should react to the older Dune movie by David Lynch!

Fremen are Arabs, spice is oil. The black sludge bath that looks like oil is a spice mixture. Spice doesn't just grant visions and the ability to map FTL paths. It also increases one's lifespan. He's a rich guy using his oil money to extend his life.

As someone who read the books I loved this adaption. It's not a 100% accurate but no movie can be and they nail the vibe. I really really want the second book to be adapted but we seem to be in for quite the while. Alas people aren't robots and won't just give us what we desire. Movie of the year for me so far.

JoeNotCharles

Hah! What a perfect segue. George: "A less daring director might have cut that part." Simone: "Oh, yeah! What about the DAVID LYNCH version?"

10:46 YouTube comment: "Stilgar is the greatest mix between comic relief and tragic character. We laughed so much we didn't see him go from wise, funny leader to obscure religious fanatic until it was too late." 11:03 "He's not the Messiah! He's a very naughty boy!" 28:59 Agreed. (Arguably the most satisfying moment in the movie for me was 45:04.) I myself am a follower of Benny Lava.

Garrick Smalley

I am one of the sad few who are just a bit disappointed in this movie. I think it strayed a bit to far from the book. There are 2 main plot points that are missing for me. I still love this movie and will recommend it to all. The book way better.

Peter Dillard

My wife REALLY was upset with the message for Jessica to Chani about the future marriage was left out. The old Dune is not a fav but the TV mini-series is worth watching.

Feignorance

Book 2 has been confirmed. Dennis and Hans already working on it.

Travis H

“That Caillou looking mother fucker” may be the most devastating insult ever said against Austin Butler! 🤣

Christopher Johnson

Hence why he didn't say anything to spoil it for Simone who was planning on reading the books. Very in depth though.

David Nesbit

The Anya Taylor Joy scene was actually an end credit scene, but placed in the middle. Surprise.

JoeNotCharles

A lot of people were disappointed that the movie ended on a "cliffhanger", but it didn't feel that way to me - it felt like it was saying, "Yeah, the cycle goes on, these people are going to keep killing each other, you can fill in the rest."

I just saw this in the theaters yesterday after a month of wanting to see it and it was fantastic. And yeah Messiah is coming. I'm a huge fan of scores and soundtracks and I follow everything Hans Zimmer does. He said he was in the middle of working on something and Dennis walked in and popped it down right on his desk. As written.

Mastervodo

I liked the TV mini-series more than the Lynch version. But I still enjoyed the Lynch version for what it was.

HeyHeyJK

I'm going to need to watch this film again before I watch your full reaction, but after being in awe basically every second of Part One, I just wasn't fully connecting will all of Part Two. For me, it needed to be about 30 minutes longer. So many scenes felt rushed and there was exposition I felt I needed that was just left out. Mostly, I missed a fun training montage of Paul learning how to ride a sandworm. He tries to get one and falls off the he and Stilgar laugh about it; multiple different quick scenes of him falling off in various ways as his body gets slammed to the ground; Stilgar shaking his head in frustration and turning to the other Fremen and shrugging his shoulders; having Hans Zimmer sneak in a heavy metal guitar riff playing his established theme, etc. Admittedly, and I think it's this way in the book, it did bother me that Paul asks Chani if he will ever learn to ride a sandworm to which she replies no because he's not one of them, and then ALL OF A SUDDEN he's getting on a sandworm which JUST HAPPENS to be the largest one anyone's ever seen. I mean, the sequence was great, but still. I also thought Christopher Walken was kind of wasted. It was established that he was a 'jealous man and not forgiving' but he seemed pretty tame to me. If he was the one who had House Atreides wiped out (or so he thought), wouldn't he have been a little less effected by it? I'm mostly sad that there won't be a director's cut of both films with extra footage since Villenueve has said he's not going to do that.

Patrick Evans

I would recommend two Christopher Walken films. Seven Psychopaths and Suicide Kings

Stefan Daniw

Please watch the Christopher Reeve Superman movies

The thing I really enjoyed, or, more accurately, thought was interesting, was the way Paul and Jessica adopt the cultural signifiers of the Fremen at the beginning of the film and then move away from them as they reach for power. When Jessica shows up in the traditional Benegesirit attire instead of the Fremen garb I was a little shocked at the audacity. And then at the very end when they burn the bodies instead of harvesting the water from them it became very obvious that the Fremen are abandoning their customs in their fervor for their new "savior".

Stephen S

Liked this movie but still think the first one was better

I saw Dune Part 2 at the Vista theater in LA. As we were taking our seats and waiting for the movie to start they were playing the soundtrack from Lynch's Dune. It was a nice nod to that version, which actually had a great score. We also got a vintage trailer for Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy, and a Bugs Bunny cartoon before the feature.

MasterElodin

Bro calling them Dennis and Hans is so weird lol Took me a bit to get what you mean :D
