Phillyman!!

Definitely a movie you should see is 8 Mile!!!!🤘🤘

Deserana12

Please put Memento on a poll! 😁 Also do not, I repeat DO NOT waste your time with the 3rd movie. It’s terrible. Not fun terrible, not slightly shit, just straight up terrible. It was filmed as a different movie and turned into a Cloverfield in the reshoots. Kinda like this but worse and lazier.

You guys should watch super 8

rafermadness

Ramona Flowers defeats Walter...He's entering a world of pain.

I do not say this as a criticism: I am SHOCKED by their dislike of the final reveal. I thought the whole idea of Badman both being right and a psycho was great. I loved the extra batshit leveling up in the final minutes. I don't dismiss your opinions but I bet upon repeat viewings you will grow to enjoy how crazy the movie notches up. (Yes, the stuff in the bunker is better if for no other reason than Goodman is involved. One of the greatest American actors of all time and man o man when he isn't acting anymore we are gonna miss something special.)

Barry G

Ehhhh super 8 was so weird. Abrams wanted to make a Spielberg movie but for the life of me I can't understand anything tha happened in that movie and for what reason.

Jonny

You guys would love the series 'Silo'. Trust me!!!

I like how each of the Cloverfield movies feels like a completely different genre but still all belong to the same universe. There’s a definite chronology there, but I like how the first film is like found footage horror, this one is like a psychological thriller, and the last film is almost like a sci-fi action film. The first is still the standout, but I still adore this one because of the good switch up and not just making more of the same of the original movie.

really? youre shocked that they had a very common negative response to the ending? lol. an ending that was stitched on afterwards when the original film was meant to be its own stand alone product? is it really that SHOCKING?

Stu84

Would have been a perfect movie if it ended just as she saw the spaceship and said "come on"

Yeah, the alien twist thing is definitely not everyone’s favorite, but I actually think it works with the theme very well. Her character was built on running away from her problems. Even the plan for getting out of the bunker was more about running away than confronting Howard. Granted, that is the smarter move, but it’s progressive character growth as it evolves into fully going to confront the aliens. The other side is Walter, whose entire setup was as crazy manipulator. And gaslighting works a lot better when the person who’s doing it not only thinks it’s true themselves, but also has reality at least partially vindicating them. When it turns out he was right, it doesn’t invalidate how dangerous he was, but it also serves to validate the precautions Michelle took before the escape. While the movie would have been fine without the reveal (the acting was excellent), I feel like it wouldn’t have been as memorable without the batshit ending.

Because there has still never actually been a sequel to Cloverfield, each movie they did this to was its own movie, had nothing to do with Cloverfield. Literally the only thing that’s true to the Cloverfield universe is called Megan, it’s a short film on YouTube.

When I first saw this movie I was honestly so impressed with the way Michelle was written. She is ACTIVE from the second she wakes up in the bunker. She looks around, sees that she is in a fucked up scenario, and immediately begins trying to solve the problem. She pulls on the chain to see if it’s secure, she takes the IV out of her arm because she doesn’t know what’s in it, and she looks around her surroundings. No wasted time, no “Well, let’s wait and see what happens”, once she’s conscious she right away starts working the problem because it’s obvious that something need to be done. Right away Michelle sees her clothes and cell phone in a pile out of reach on the other side of the room, and again she works the problem. Instead of reaching out with her arm and settling into defeat when she can’t reach that far, she takes the IV stand and uses that as a grasping tool. It’s such a basic, obvious choice (It’s a long pole with a hook that is literally right next to her), but so many fictional characters never get that far at all, and for the ones that do most of them only have that idea after a lengthy waiting period. Here there isn’t a “time passes” montage of her looking dejected and waving her arm in futility, she’s using the tools she has only minutes after waking. Once she does get her phone she (Of course) can’t get a signal, but the film then takes the time to show her holding the phone up and around in an effort to find a signal. Considering we’ve all had Yes/No signal from one side of the room to the other, the fact that she doesn’t just say “No signal? Okay, this phone will clearly never work again and so I shouldn’t even bother” is so refreshing. It doesn’t work, but again it shows that Michelle is TRYING. This continues throughout the whole rest of the film. She's constantly asking questions and coming up with plans. Many of them don't work, and she obviously swings back and and forth between believing Howard and not, but she is always moving forward. At no point does she slump down and say "Well, whatever happens, happens". Characters are so rarely written this way that I am MASSIVELY impressed. I actually love the "The aliens are real" twist because it doesn't undo any of Howard's abuse or paranoia from earlier. It fits the theme that even when there really IS an alien invasion, sometimes people are still The Real Monsters. It's like "Pan's Labyrinth", where even in a world with child-eating monsters it's still a fascist dictatorship which is truly horrifying.

Sleepers (1996) is one of the best dramas in the 90s with an awesome cast. Also Dolores (1995) 👌 consider those for future polls please

There was a going theory that this movie was not initially written/filmed to be a cloverfield sequel but that they instead just added the final scenes and some other Easter eggs after to make it work in to the Franchise in order to garner more viewership.

Rob Church

You guys gotta check out Barton Fink directed by the Coen Brothers.

Dan Holmes

If you want to check out an amazing underrated thriller that uses the concept of a "God Complex" in the plot you should watch MALICE. It has Alec Baldwin, Nicole Kidman and Bill Pullman. Great one, shouldn't be missed

Dan Holmes

Love the fun you guys were having at the very end there :) For more fun horror thriller laughs pls check out Drag Me To Hell by Sam Raimi SO GOOD! and it's the scariest funniest PG-13 Horror you'll ever see probably :)

Zach McBride

this movie is better when you dont know its a sequel

Mastervodo

NUTS?! Simone! You made me shoot Diet Pepsi out my nose!

HeyHeyJK

I gotta say that the thumbnail detail is so good, especially the shading/lighting on Simone's face. I really liked this film although I couldn't really connect it to the first film since I can't watch it. All that shaky cam makes me get SUPER seasick within about 10 minutes. Someone should run that film through After Effects and add motion stabilization so those of us who suffer from motion sickness could watch it!

Chase Schleich

Yeah and the worst part is, it contributed to years worth of shaky cam found footage films. Such a terrible style that very few films ever got right.

804Media

J.J. Abrahams was supposedly connected to a Half-Life universe movie that never materialized. Supposedly. It's not as though Half-Life 2 was 100% original, so you can take it for a riff on "War of the Worlds" just as easily. Plenty of people make the connection by drawing parallels between the Half-Life "Antlions" and the smaller monsters in the original Cloverfield. Also the ship Michelle sees over the field looks like the Combine dropship. But, again, all speculative.

Nathan Jasper

I hope you finish out the trilogy with The Cloverfield Paradox. It foes explain things but it's so wildly different too. This is probably one time where I like the sequels more than the initial film

Tom M

Is this streaming in any platform? It doesn’t appear to be

Dazzler & Em

Completely get where you are both coming from. Just to echo some previous comments, I definetly feel that the twist ending was earned. Goodmans character is so unhinged that it truely is about making the audience unsure about what is happening. It also forces the female character to move beyond her natural instinct to not confront situations. Either way it was a really good reaction.

MasterElodin

I can highly recomend watchany(dot)stream. Great website that lets you check where a movie is streamable (platform and country if you use a vpn).

Noel Valdez

I agree with you the ending was kinda whack. Lol there are several movies though that have endings I don't care for but I love the rest of the movie. Bodies, Bodies, Bodies being one of them. I can forgive a bad ending if I enjoy the rest of the movie well enough.
