Funny that you mentioned that "face off" is a hockey term since that's the reason the slash is in the title, so that people didn't think it was a hockey movie.

I completely forgot this was coming up, and randomly re-listened to the How Did This Get Made episode on this movie. Apparently the phrase “face off” is nowhere in the script, so Nic Cage’s whole “I want to take his face… off” monologue was entirely improvised.

LOL this was one of the films that started the end of Cage and Travolta's careers as top tier actors. These 2 are really good actors who just couldn't turn down action scripts no matter how ridiculous the plots were. Cage did do the National Treasure movies afterwards but has had very little success since.

Cage blew his entire fortune and owed a lot of money to the IRS so he started accepting anything thrown his way. Start making B or C tier films and Hollywood stops hiring you real quick. I'm surprised he hasn't done National Treasure 3 in order to raise his profile again. Travolta's acting just got.... corny as he got older. That terrible Battlefield Earth movie, his heavy involvement in Scientology, and some sexual allegations didn't help his image and people didn't take him seriously as a lead actor anymore.
