I’m mildly surprised about the restraint used to NOT put one of your faces on Bautista’s body in the Speedo for the thumbnail.

Phillyman!!

You gotta watch the movie Primal Fear with Edward Norton 💯🔥. Unless it’s A24 🙏🙏let it not be

Jeff K

So now that I’ve finished the reaction, more trivia: the hourly “dong” is voiced by Joe Gordon Levitt. Daryl is played by the same actor who played the fanboy cop in Knives Out. And when Blanc plays Among Us, everyone there is connected to murder mystery stuff. Angela Lansbury of course, and Natasha Lyonne is the star of Rian Johnson’s show "Poker Face." Stephen Sondheim, if I’m not mistaken, in addition to being Stephen fucking Sondheim, co-wrote the murder mystery "The Last of Sheila" (he co-wrote it with Anthony Perkins, who played Norman Bates in "Psycho"), which was a big inspiration for this movie. And Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is a pretty big Sherlock Holmes expert and has written a couple of Mycroft Holmes novels.

While it isn’t as good as Knives Out, I think Glass Onion has its own charms. I love the villain is not some genius but literally copies his ideas from other people, including how to murder. I always thought it would be funny to have a murderer lift his plan to kill from a mystery book. While Edward Norton doesn’t do that here, he does steal ideas straight from Benoit Blanca’s words. The “so dumb” cracks me up every time. Lol Also, I love the guy making the “Dong!” sound is Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

This is a great film, but it is a little ridiculous to make an eat-the-rich movie while paying your lead actor a small country's GDP.

Anna Kyruin

To quote Ms Williams from Fallout "Hypocrisy is like violence mister Howard, if you only let the bad guys use it, the bad guys win."

Jeff K

And some of the little details that he steals go right down to his wardrobe, like in the flashback to when they all met Miles, he's dressed exactly like Tom Cruise's character in the movie "Magnolia" and then, in the magazine photo of him holding the napkin, it's very clearly dressed like Steve Jobs. Literally not an original thought in his head.

Ed Stephens

Janelle Monae was good in this movie and I hope she gets some more leading roles

All the rest I knew the connection to mysteries, but Kareem was a new one for me. That’s cool he’s such a Sherlock aficionado.

HeyHeyJK

Really? Not even Simone knew that "Glass Onion" is a Beatles song? Also, if you think Jared Leto's Hard Kombucha is a slightly suggestive name, there used to be a legitimate product I only ever saw sold at a frozen yogurt place here in L.A. called Sylvester Stallone's Protein Pudding. I mean ... what were you thinking Sly?? Yeah, the structure of this film was definitely different than "Knives Out" but it's still a fun film. Really looking forward to the third one. The cast is stacked so hopefully it will be great.

Jeff K

She was terrific, for sure. And I'm delighted they picked up on the final shot of her being a direct mimic of the Mona Lisa, by the way. I'm amazed at how many reactors miss that.

Elroy

I hope you guys watch kingdom of the planet of the apes soon it’s a good continuation of the previous trilogy

Rev

That is definitely not A24. Primal Fear came out in 1996, and A24 releases didn't start until 2013.

I love this movie even though it isn’t as good as Knives Out. I like how it is a whodunnit hiding in a comedy about awful rich people. And just like people like Elon Musk who seem like they should be really smart, they are just dumb. And I had a strong feeling that George was going to solve this right at the big twist, and I was thrilled to be right. Joseph Gordon Levitt having a credit on IMDB as “Hourly Dong” will never not be funny to me. Noah Segan who plays Derol was also in Knives Out as Jeff mentioned previously here. He is close friends with the writer/director Rian Johnson and he tries to put him in everything he directs. The most recent thing you two have seen him in was the Breaking Bad episode Ozimandias where he played the firefighter that finds Holly in the fire truck. And what’s up with Simone and pegging? First the whole Simon Pegg ordeal, and now she say she relates to a certain character, what’s that characters name? Peg! 😉

Great thumbnail game as always

Leo K

I was both sad and proud that I solved the murder in 2 minutes. The 2nd twist was much more unexpected, but if you pay attention to Duke's phone and who could've picked up his gun in the movie, it's immediately obvious.

Dalton Kennedy

I kinda wish people hadn’t set you up by telling you it wasn’t as good as the first, felt like that may have influenced. Personally I liked this one more than the first

Jeff K

Same. I loved the first one so damn much. But I actually enjoyed the second one more, because I found it to be just super fun. It's the movie I'll return to more, between the two.

JBK405

I knew the "It's meant to be standalone, not a continuation" from the beginning, so I was able to 'sink in' very well to this one. I loved the layers here, because it is exactly what Benoit says a glass onion is: You think it's complicated, and you go around in circles trying to figure it out, only to realize that it really is the obvious suspect all along. His sheer anger and frustration at the end was perfect, because he's been looking for The Truth all along and it turns out this schmuck couldn't even hide it. Plus, Janelle Monae's energy was OFF THE CHARTS. I don't claim that I figured out the twist beforehand, but there is so much OOMPH happening every time that "Andi" is on screen that you know SOMETHING is going on. That really got me.

Nathan Swapp

Glass onion shines on the rewatch. Not just that the pieces fit but how blatantly we are shown the truth but we miss the forest for the trees.

Jeff K

If I’m not mistaken, when the lights go out and they show Miles in the hall saying “Andi?” and they show her hiding around the corner, if you look closely you can even see the gun in his hand. They “hide” things in plain sight throughout the movie.

I was happy that I saw the glass switch with Duke. It is fun seeing people clearly see it but get fooled by Myles freaking out saying it was the opposite. The power of suggestion is real. I liked this just a little less than the first one, but the first one is one of my favorite movies ever. I love Benoit Blanc's character. It takes me back to Columbo, who was appearance wise, a complete opposite to Blanc. But the idea of the wealthy getting caught for their crimes is there.

Who Are These People

I saw the glass switch plain as day and remembered the pineapple juice and knew Miles allergied him to death, so it didn't make sense to me. I thought I was shown that as a red herring and kept waiting and waiting..but then it just wasn't a red herring. What?

Christina Doxstader

I like the first one more as well. I also agree that there is a lot more comedic elements in this one as well. It is quite enjoyable though, just in a different way. I'm looking forward to the next one that's coming out next year.

Renee MeowMeow Beans

I love both movies a lot - and I get Johnson's frustration with the addition of "Knives Out" marketing ploy. I love the shift to a comedic tone (which is very Agatha Christie, and I think Johnson is a fan of her work), but what I saw of the theme is a little different. I think he's working at dismantling the cult of celebrity/personality we seem to be swimming in, where a lot of those people aren't nearly as innovative, or maverick as they like to project. And we tend to fall for the marketing. A lot. We have a tendency to trust charisma over reality - hey, it's so much more fun, isn't it? 😁

Jeff K

Correct about Agatha Christie. That's the mystery writer Johnson most often references in interviews when talking about these movies.

Jennifer McKenzie

As for why Derol's just there hanging around while everyone's supposed to just ignore him.... I think the theory behind that is that he's the personification of Coronavirus. (Because of course the miracle cure doesn't actually work). He's drinking corona beer everytime you see him.

Hamesque

I think the biggest shared theme between this and Knives out is how alien and disconnected the super rich are, and how weird the world they live in is. In both the 'hero' is a working class person and all the wealthy people are just awful to some degree.

JoeNotCharles

This movie was both blessed and cursed by its timing. After it was filmed but before it was released, Elon Musk went mask off with Twitter and revealed how much of an idiot he is. So between that and Coronavirus, the movie felt incredibly topical... But it also turned the big revelation, "Miles Bron is an idiot," into an obvious reflection of reality rather than a surprise twist.

AJ Lynch

There are a few great singers who are also great actors. David Bowie, Lady Gaga, and Janelle Monae
