Excellent. While not as good as the first one, it's still a fun watch.

djKENTO

BACK AT IT A GAIN WITH THE BENOIT BLANC BEATS!

Carl Tunney

Definitely counting the seconds till I get off work and can watch this reaction!!

j...

You guys need to finish Daniel Craig's Bond films.

djKENTO

this is where I’ll continue to post my comments as I watch this reaction: If you like this, Rian Johnson created a show called Poker Face with Natasha Lyonne. It’s a different mystery every week kind of in the style of Colombo. The premise, she always knows when some one is lying. Is it a super power? is it a learned skill? YOU’LL HAVE TO WATCH TO FIND OUT (please add this to the options. It’s so fucking good). The guy who sits down and solves the music puzzle is fucking Yo Yo Ma The people playing Among Us are Kareem Abdul Jabar who writes Sherlock Holmes novels now and is a HUGE Sherlock historian. Angela Lansbury, star of Murder She Wrote, the best TV detective other than Columbo. Steven Sondheim who wrote Westside Story and Natasha Lyonne who is friends with Rian Johnson for the TV show mentioned before. The hourly DONG is Joseph Gordon-Levitt who is Rian Johnson’s good friend and is in all his movies… along with Noah Segan, the island stoner Derol... who was the cop who was the huge fan in the first film. When you meet Miles he’s dressed EXACTLY like Tom Cruise in the movie Magnolia which would be a WILD reaction. After all this I REALLY REALLY want to see your reaction to Rian’s Star Wars film… I don’t think you’ll be doing the Star Wars sequels anytime soon but DAMN I need that reaction now.

Martin Roca

Not as good as the first one, but still a great movie to watch.

Alexrandom

Hated this when it came out but I'll try again with you guys in the hope you see something in it that I don't. Hope I change my mind, I like enjoying stuff :p

JediLounger

While I don't disagree with your assessment of The Rock and his choices on movies, you should check out The Rundown (2003), one of his early roles. Surprisingly good movie, very funny and easy to watch.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Funny thing is that John Lennon wrote the lyrics of the song “Glass Onion” to intentionally confuse and mess with people, especially considering their absurdity something in plain sight from his pov. So a quirky mystery designed to do the same thing with something clear makes it a pretty suitable title imo. Dunno, either way it’s amusing. Also can’t help but love Daniel Craig in this role 😎

djKENTO

yeah he’s good in The Rundown but he continues to play that guy for the next two decades in most movies. He has VERY little range.

YukoValis

There is a huge debate which movie was better. Honestly I loved the first movie a lot more. This one was good too, but I felt there were too many unlikable people that showcase all the problems in the world.

Chase Lonnergan

One good thing I can say about this movie, is that they solved the problem that the first one had with the iPhone spoiling the murderer's identity.

PeppermintWizardOfAus

It is called Glass Onion, the whole thing is meant to be obvious and in plain sight. The mystery is deliberately not a mystery

Pam Nail

"Not as good as Knives Out" still leaves a lot of room to be great. The third movie is still being made and coming out next year. I love this one, personally. It's a completely different world, but it reminds me a lot of The Last Of Sheila -- a great mystery movie from the 70s, written by Anthony Perkins (Norman Bates from Psycho) and Stephen Sondheim. Speaking of Sondheim, it always makes me sad when people don't recognize him or Angela Lansbury as Blanc's fellow Among Us players, along with Natasha and Kareem.

Jacob King

Derroll is played by Noah Segan who’s in all Rian Johnson’s movies. He was Trooper Wagner in Knives Out. His character is a bit of a meta joke on the way he keeps turning up. He has main roles in Brick and Looper. Janelle Monae’s music is worth getting into if you like cyberpunk and RnB. Her first EP and the two subsequent albums were a linked conceptual work reimagining Fritz Lang’s 1927 silent film Metropolis.

BigGuy209

syncing with their reaction is off.

Cinebinge

Hi BigGuy209, could you let me know which part of the video did you notice the sync was off? Thank you.

Jonas Buckner

Miles Bron's painting of himself as Tyler Durden is one of my favorite jokes in the movie. He's the kind of dope to completely miss the message of that movie think of himself as a literally-me Tyler type.

The last time France guillotionized somebody was in 1977. Take one minute to absorb how recently that was. Take one more minute to actually picture it in your mind. The heavy blade slicing into your neck. The dizzying ride, tumbling into the basket, maybe getting picked up and held up before a cheering audience for one tiny moment before you black out. They really did that to people. Doctor Guillotine was really hailed as a benevolent and humanitarian inventor because his murder device made people die with a "minimum" of pain and humiliation. So anyway, does anyone think the French will let Miles off with just paying a fine after he stole and burned up the Mona Lisa?

Philipp Roensch

I don't get other people's definition of "not good", yes it is not as emotionally hitting and well paced as the first one, but has so much good placement and great payoffs, that is what I expect of this series now :D. The humor also just lands with me, and I'm glad it did for you as well. Booking the great tech genius as an unoriginal buffoon is just the best. The whole catch-up moment with Helen is less elegant than well-placed flashbacks, it makes the movie a bit slow, agreed. But the performance from Janelle Monáe (her name is almost Mona!) is so good in this double role, essentially. Daniel Craig as well, amazing, I hope you see more of his both funny and serious roles!

WalrusWallace

I've been looking forward to this since the knives out video! Just gotta get some snacks ready then I'm set hehe

Florian Geyer

I would like to reccomed "Birdman"

rick trevino

kate hudson was pregnant during the filming , and still looked like that in the bikini.

REDR58

Jessica Henwick is in the Iron Fist series. Soon to be former wrestler John Cena is excellent as Peacemaker in the HBO series, probably the best modern DC live action thing out there, by far.

Odd Thomas

More Daniel Craig: Logan Lucky and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011)

Odd Thomas

Southland Tales is a good Rock movie. He still had hair and played actual characters in 2006.

Odd Thomas

A good Ed Norton film is Motherless Brooklyn. Great gumshoe flick. He also directed it.

Mister_Momus

I think the comedy aspects really helped an audience coming right out of the pandemic, and I imagine gave the cast and crew things to laugh about during filming under strict regulations.

Tay Schumaker

The other two people on the call were Stephen Sondheim (the composer) and Angela Lansbury

Our Patrons thought we were a myth. Well... They were MYTH taken.

🖤It's funny you referred to Batista as the opposite Rock which is spot on. The Rock models what he does based on what Arnold Schwarzenegger did for his movie career, at least that's what he thinks. It's Batista has actually done so, whether he had Arnold in mind as an inspiration or not. The Rock is very arrogant, and has stupid clauses in his contract like his character can't be seen losing a fight, he only takes roles based on how big of a blockbuster he thinks it'll be and how much he will get paid. If he thinks the movie will be a hit, and make him look good he doesn't really care who the director is. Arnold didn't do business that way. Once he started getting some say in the movies he did he thought long and hard about working with the right directors, doing the right stories, ect. Not Super focused about his status, ego, etc. His goal was to be a star, sure. But the art, and the movie as a whole was his main focus. Not about making it the Arnold show. He DID do some crappy movies like Junior, but hey, what can you do? LOL Dave Batista is very much the same in this way. He is approaching acting as an art. He's more interested in doing roles he thinks will be interesting, and will challenge him as an actor. The Rock is approaching acting as him being a brand with every movie simply being a commercial for said brand. Long story short, The Rock, while having a few good movies under his belt, is just trash. He's a garbage person with only The Rock in mind.

Elroy

Watch kingdom of the apes it just dropped

Tenn Seven

The woman in the lower left corner on the "Among Us" call is Angela Lansbury, who played the lead part (Jessica Fletcher) in "Murder, She Wrote"! And yes, that was Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Natasha Lyonne (along with Stephen Sondheim), all playing themselves!

W T

"A human called me a possum" Y'know, I wouldn't mind a quick intermission for Hazbin Hotel. Liked it quite a bit.

Tay Schumaker

You probably won’t ever get around to Magnolia, but in the flashback Edward Norton’s character is dressed exactly like Tom Cruise’s character in Magnolia

james repka

I really hate that reviewing this film seems to require comparing it to the previous film. As George said, this was a fun movie to watch. If Knives Out didn't exist, or was the 2nd film released, this wouldn't be subjected to the "it's great, but..." reviews. The point of this "mystery" is that everything was in plain sight and in the open: if you look at the party scene, you actually see Miles hand his glass to Duke. When Blanc catches up with Helen just before the shooting, he shouts the name Helen! Daryl continually tells everyone to ignore him, yet many reactors seem to suspect him throughout. Along with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Natasha Lyonne in Blanc's introductory scene the other two players are Angela Lansbury (for American TV watchers, most famous for playing mystery writer/detective Jessica Fletcher on the TV series Murder She Wrote) and Steven Sondheim, composer/lyricist and maybe the most important figures in 20th century musical theater. Sadly and coincidentally, both Lansbury and Sondheim passed away before the movie was released. One of the other commenters mentioned the TV series Poker Face, a collaboration between Johnson and Lyonne that premiered on AppleTV just a few months after Glass Onion's premier. This would be a great addition to your "short TV shows" list. Only one season of 10 episodes has been released thus far (like the 3rd Benoit Blanc movie the 2nd season was delayed by the writers/actors strikes last year).

Steve Mercier

Filming has already begun on our third Benoit Blanc installment...fuck yes!

Brandon

Harsh assessment of The Rock... and I entirely agree with you. 😆

Sean Hennessy

Incase it was not already called out, but the hourly "dong" was voiced by Joseph Gordon Levitt

Todd “Canuck” Schmuck

Yeah the timing right before the world saw Elon the way only those close to him had previously is fitting. I love that Miles Bron is an anagram for Mr. B is Elon. 😏

Sumner Hayes

A "glass onion" (aka "onion bottle") is a shape of bottle developed in the 17th century, which was vaguely onion-shaped and had thicker walls than older glass bottles did—that allowed it to be superior for shipping liquor and wine (with less risk of breakage). The bottle inspired the title of the Beatles song, which was intended as lyrical nonsense to confuse people who spend too much time trying to decipher their lyrics. The movie drew its title from the song.

I think this movie made things harder for itself by trying to weave a much more complicated idea for a story, and then build a complex unravelling and detectiv-ing on top. The first movie was really simple, it's a whodunnit that throws you off by thinking it's already solved and playing out in reverse. They establish that and then just play around with how to reveal the truth. Glass onion has way more to try to say about the nature of originality, vanity and narcissism, making it relevant to the pandemic, Hellen's story as the secondary protagonist was far more intricate than Marta's and you didn't even realise it was her story for the first hour... I feel like it just got in its own way with the larger scale of it all. I'd be fine with "boss is murdered by one of the employees" as the setup.

Logan Kerlee

I didn't enjoy this movie. Someday in the future I may rewatch but this wasn't a very entertaining ride for me.

JCR

Janelle Monáe was in Hidden Figures. Can’t recall if you guys have watched that one yet. The guy who identified the Bach piece while Birdie was trying to Shazam it was cellist, Yo-Yo Ma, who was presumably a guest at the party.

David Lonewolf Wright

You should check out Rian Johnson's first full length movie, Brick. It is another mystery style detective movie, but with an unusual setting and even more unusual way with words. I don't want to give anything away, but it stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt... who shows up in some way in every Rian Johnson movie. My favorite line from this movie is, "What is reality!" from Birdie. Kills me each time.

REDR58

I liked very much how the tone of this movie was quite different from Knives Out. I don’t need or want to see exactly the same thing for this kind of movie. Angela Lansbury, who was on the video call with Benoit on the lower left of the screen is probably best well known for the long-running TV mystery series “Muder, She Wrote”: https://youtu.be/vksQlLF7JB8?si=xus_9V1u6fPA5sWK Lansbury also had a long movie, musical and stage career lasting 80 years. She was in the Disney animated move musical “Beauty and the Beast” playing Mrs. Potts. The Glass Onion movie was her final role. The notebook stopping the bullet is a well-known trope, “Pocket Protector.” https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PocketProtector

Mitchell Bowker

Noah also played the Fireman who found Holly at the end of the Ozymandias episode of Breaking Bad 😮

Gary Fixler

To George: I agree totally with the issue of dumb luck surrounding the gunshot wound. It's the same reason I don't like the scenes in, say, Stallone movies, where he's in the middle of a clearing, shooting down everyone around him, while all the people firing at him can't hit him. That's been made fun of in several parody movies, at least. I do like, however, that even though there was dumb luck, we get to see Craig's ability to adapt to the dumb luck immediately, with the hot sauce, and the rest of it. No plan survives contact with the enemy.

schnoobs

someone already mentioned it but Brick is a good watch as well. Rian Johnsons directorial debut. Another fun fact: Kate Hudson and Wyatt Russel (who you just saw in the Black Mirror eps "Playtest") are siblings.

G B

Good film but Janelle Monáe’s performance was exceptional. Even more astonishing when you realize acting isn’t her main focus as she’s an incredible eclectic musician. I believe her first two albums, The Archandroid and The Electric Lady are true hidden gems. Some of her rapping: https://youtu.be/mTjQq5rMlEY?si=zpn7QtQB_aFRnVG_

Just trying to think of how the papers the day after will fit all of Miles Bron's bad day in one headline. It'd be something like "Governor, Nobel prize winner, Miley Cyrus, PewDiePie accuse Elon Musk of multiple murders, IP theft, chemical research safety violations, plotting widespread destruction 'and' destroying the Mona Lisa." (Subheader: "French officials call for extradition, decline to rule out beheading.")
