Now that it's out on VOD, you should definitely check out Longlegs. It's maybe my favorite new horror film since Hereditary and has Nicolas Cage giving one of his most unhinged performances ever, which is really saying something. My only gripe is that the plot is sort of gibberish. Like, the more you think about it, the less sense it makes.

I was 18 when 8 Mile came out. Lose Yourself was being played soooo much on the radio and music video channels. It was on all the time. Not the best acting from Eminem but I've seen worse lol. Rest in Peace Brittany Murphy. Not the best movie but we have producers and other filmmakers behind it all to blame for that. One of the reasons why Eminem didn't really get into much acting after 8 Mile. The story is very corny and the name B Rabbit so cringe. It's still a classic. A movie people keep coming back to. Not all bad, but a lot of corny ideas from filmmakers who have no idea about rap and living in the bad areas of a town etc. Rest in peace Proof.

8 Mile is a road. My very first concert was the Anger Management Tour in 2000. it was with Eminem, Limp Bizkit, Xzibit & Papa Roach. My favorite Eminem song is The Way I Am. Being 12 in 2000 The Marshall Mathers was the biggest album that year. He just dropped a new album this year. I can’t wait to watch this reaction.

Rewatching this really highlights how well Curtis Hanson nailed the gritty feel he was after for the film. A truly talented filmmaker, may he rest in peace. Also definitely one of the best movie songs out there, and potentially Eminem’s best overall? Rap God is pretty amazing too, though. Either way hope patrons enjoy this one with y’all 😊

The Marshall Mathers LP was without a doubt the biggest thing anyone in my first year of high school was listening to as well. Then Linkin Park made it irrelevant overnight haha. Fun times back then

Odd Thomas

The parody in Scary Movie 3 did it better.

A better Brittany Murphy film: Drop Dead Gorgeous

A great Michael Shannon movie is 'Take Shelter', with Jessica Chastain

Heck yes!!!!!!! It’s finally 8 Mile day, I just hate that I have to wait until tomorrow to watch this, but I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait to watch you two react to one of my favorite movies from my 20’s ( I’m 41 now ) I actually went to the movies to see this a couple days after it came out, and I still have the DVD I bought the day it was released on DVD. So I know I’ll have fun watching this reaction.

FWPJR.

My favorite movie she was in is Clueless, but they already did that. That was the first time I saw her in anything. R.I.P Britney

Nah, his best songs are from his first two albums he did with Dre ( Slim Shady LP and The Marshall Mathers LP ) but hey, that’s just my opinion and I’m sure a lot of fans will disagree. But lose yourself is a fantastic song and definitely one of his best. He had a couple other great songs on the soundtrack to this movie.

it's 8 mile because it's like a mile marker. Although in detroit they have streets named x mile, all the way up to 30 or something. It also serves as an identifier for the class divide it the city. That's why the rapper at who beat b-rabbit in the beginning said, "16 mile road is thataway" saying he doesn't belong here. Also the rapper who beat eminem at the start is played by proof, eminem's best friend. In real life, proof was to eminem what future played by mekhi phifer was to b-rabbit in this movie. Proof would go around hyping eminem up introducing him to all his hip hop friends.

The coolest Clarence I know of is Clarence Worley from "True Romance". That's a tough name to sound tough with lol, but Christian Slater pulls it off in that movie. I'm hoping you guys keep up with the music reactions, they're a lot of fun, and I hope you check out more hip hop. I tend to lean more towards rock personally but I do love hip hop from the 80s and 90s, and there were a lot of great songs in this soundtrack from the 90s. After the DMX and Eminem era I kind of fell off, I don't really know the genre after that. You what's crazy is how many influential musical acts come from the Detroit area: first of all of course is Motown, Barry Gordy and too many acts to even mention, but also the MC5, and Iggy Pop and the Stooges, who influenced Punk, Bob Seger, and of course Eminem. And supposedly some the first EDM came from experimental DJ music in Detroit. I just think that's interesting because it's kind of like how a lot of my favorite British artists are from Manchester for some reason.

Martin

Simone calling it “The Spaghetti Song” is one of my favorite things ever.

Odd Thomas

Funny People is a similar film, but about a comedian

Sorry for all the comments; I keep thinking of things! Another good Curtis Hanson movie is Wonder Boys, about a washed up author played by Michael Douglas.

His life has always been hard to separate fact from fiction/myth/legend, and he likes it that way - so it makes perfect sense that this movie which kinda allegorical would be that way. Quite a lot of characters in this movie are fairly clearly identifiable as at least based on real people where you can figure out who they're based on or the several people they're based on. I don't think you have to be into rap et al to enjoy this movie and its clearly engineered that way and it definitely works that it is accessible to anybody - which is a mistake a lot of movies of this nature make, it's so easy to not be relatable to people who aren't into the genre.

djKENTO

ah my second favorite Curtis Hanson movie behind LA Confidential. Excited to see how the 4K blu-ray looks.

Eminem grew up in a trailer park in real life. His mom was an alcoholic and a drug addict. his kid sister is an analogue for his real life half brother nathan whom he raised because his mom was a drug addict. He has also said that she had Munchausen's by proxy and she would feed pills to eminem when he was little which is what caused him to develop a drug habbit as he got older until he ODed in 2007 which is when he finally got clean. His earlier music especially he is known for dissing his mom. Some were just light jabs, others were more venomous like he song cleaning out my closet. He forgave her in the song headlights in 2013. He hasn't reconciled with her but he said he doesn't hate her anymore and sympathises with her because she was mentally ill.

Kieran

She also made a public video to congratulate him when he was inducted into the hall of fame saying she was proud of him

The line about working at the plant so long you're a plant basically means that he's a company mole .

This movie is part of this trend in late 90s early 00s when pop stars were making vanity movies about themselves of stand ins for themselves. However, this movie manages to rise above that stuff because it's so grounded. Jimmy is insecure, unconfident and afraid to make any moves from the fear of embarrassment. even though he has all these friends who are so supportive and believe in him, he is too afraid to believe in himself. As a result he never takes responsibility. Throughout the movie, he experiences a shift in his attitude and begins to realise that this is who he is and this is his situation and he needs to grow and deal with it for his sake and his family's sake. The ending of his movie feels really optimistic when he wins the battle, we know real eminem became eminem but jimmy is a different person. nothing has really changed for him. His mom is chill now because she won bingo but once that money runs out they'll be back to square one because she's not getting a job. Maybe he's one of the million struggling artists who never get the break they need and he has to just keep plugging away his whole life. But the ending still feels like a win because even though he is still poor, his mom is still an alcoholic, he still lives in a trailer, he's still stuck in a dead-end job but now he doesn't hate who he is symbolised by the fact that he had no shame using all the stuff he used to be embarrassed about as ammo against papa doc. In a lesser movie, the ending would've been like there was a guy who, unlike wink, actually knows people in the industry comes up to eminem at the end after the battle and says, "hey, I heard you up there, you should give me a call". but this movie rises above that stuff. Jimmy's final act is to go back to work. It's not as glamorous but it feels so much more rewarding because you're feel euphoric like rabbit's friends after seeing rabbit win but the movie immediately brings you right back down to earth. Such a sobering and humble ending for the movie.

Love the movie. Love the Simone rap. Do not love that Brittany Murphy is gone. :( RIP Brittany Murphy

John

damn talked right over the opening line against Poppa Doc in the last battle which was arguably the most important

Cincassette

"Uptown Girls" (2003) is an incredible Brittany Murphy film

Lana Gorgeous

Eminem did the rap battles in real life and that is how he got discovered by Dr. Dre and then in there first meeting he created the song My Name Is "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXe_sPhsc4g" and it was a hit and off he went. But it all started with the rap battles the rap Olympics and that is how he got discovered. In real life he also had a very contentious relationship with his mom. His early life was crazy, lots of poverty "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eminem".

akaTheBARON

"Coming this fall... Twi-leight Mile."

Moon Logic

A move like this about comedians? Joker!

Amar

Eminem and his mother have a terrible relationship in real life. He has a song called Cleaning out my closet which tells the story about his relationship and how she used to drug him as a child to get benefits. I also recommend watching Harry Mack he is the best freestyle rapper alive and does it in person to crowds on the street. I know George is not a big hip hop head so just one freestyle will do lol

In 1950 baseball player Jackie Robinson, the first Black baseball player to play in Major League Baseball portrayed himself in “The Jackie Robinson Story” based on his autobiography, “My Own Story.” Chadwick Bozeman portrayed Robinson in “42” from 2013 (“42” was Robinson’s uniform number). Audie Murphy, a US Army soldier, portrayed himself in “To Hell and Back” (1955). Murphy was notable for being the most decorated US combat serviceman in the Second World War. Muhammad Ali and Howard Stern have also played themselves in movies, as have a number of other people: https://www.ranker.com/list/people-who-played-themselves-in-their-biopics/mike-mcgranaghan

Eminem - "Rap God". Listen Immediately. So Fast.

REDR58

This was way much better than I was expecting especially since he didn’t get The Big Record Deal at the finale. Maybe he will, maybe he won’t but this is probably a much more realistic “ending” for a person in his situation. The auto parts factory, New Center Stamping, where part of this was filmed is apparently still in business: https://www.newcenter.net

Orphan Crippler

Lol George.. The famous killer/ganster from Australia.. Machine Gun Kelly... Think you mean Ned Kelly xD

Cinebinge

ya i had a double mix up there and was actually thinking of the American gangster Machine Gun Kelly from Memphis

dys

Has Michael Shannon just always looked 45? He and Kim Basinger almost look the same age in this movie. Meanwhile Eminem perpetually looks 25.

dys

And then watch the version with Boomhauer from King of the Hill.

beecroft adams

Since you've seen this check out Kasey Chambers cover of lose yourself.

Brad Lowry

On the first appearance by The Eels on David Letterman, Mark Oliver Everett announced prior to the song "Flyswatter" that "I am the Real Slim Shady!" Thats all I know about it. I do know, and this seems directly inside George's Wheelhouse: Mark Oliver Everett was the son of Physicist Hugh Everette III the originator of the MWI (Many Worlds Interpretation) commonly talked of as "The Parallel Universe" idea, I believe. At the time the professional ridicule resulted in his father Un-Alive-ing himself, tragically. Mr. E (His son and singer songwriter for the Eels) revisited that pain and a somewhat victory lap on behalf of his now less ridiculed father in the PBS Nova Episode "Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LroZS97VjA)

Richard

Richard Pryor pretty much portrayed himself in “Jo Jo Dancer”

Oh man, I would fucking love to see them react to Longlegs. One of my favorite horror films that's came out in recent time, if not my favorite.
