Yessss! My favorite Kevin Smith film!

mojo shivers

I think Mallrats is an under-appreciated film in View Askew-verse. It isn’t as ground-breaking as Clerks and its humor is even more broad than that film, but I like the set-ups and Jason Lee is amazing in this. I also like how it really got Jay and Silent Bob into their own as secondary characters and started the idea that all Smith’s films can be interconnected. However, Chasing Amy is actually my favorite Kevin Smith film. It’s his first real attempt at doing something (mostly) dramatic. I would love if you took a crack at reacting to that one.

17:24 In furtherance of my lifelong mission of rescuing YouTube personalities' self-esteem, I shall note that Stan Lee was born Stanley Lieber. 19:48 Good eye; she has a distinguishable face. The Rock was her very next film. Her only other film that gets reactions is Meet Joe Black (1998).

can't wait for Chasing Amy

Guy-on-Couch

I know you guys have seen the MCU, i hope this isn't a spoiler, in Captain Marvel, since it takes place in the 90's, Stan Lee is reading the Mallrats script during his cameo.

Daniel Smith

I love the nod to Jaws in Chasing Amy. Great scene.

Tmatts

I'm glad you're watching more of these! I wish it would have been in order, but I'll take it!

Jason Pratt

His name is Stanley. Last name Lieber- to go under the radar of antisemites he went by Stan Lee.

Happy Hanukkah

"She" being Claire Forlani, of course. If you really squint, she is vaguely reminiscent of Vera Farmiga, which is a way of poorly segueing into a suggestion of Dummy (2002), starring Adrien Brody as well as Milla Jovovich (trying her hardest not to be too sexy).

Galactic Cannibl

Jason Lee was the devil in Dogma. He and Ethan Suplee are both in My Name is Earl

Also I don't know if you realized that the girl who drowned in the pool is the same girl whose funeral that Dante and Randal went to in Clerks.

Morningstar

Keep going can’t wait for, Clerks 2

JBK405

I think this was the first film I saw in the View Askewniverse. If you follow the inter-film continuity, this takes place the day BEFORE "Clerks". Dante & Randall attend the funeral of the woman who died doing laps in the pool. Gil Hicks, Suitor #3, is the cousin of Dante. Several other cousins show up in the other films, all played by the same actor. The idea is that since they all take place in the same area, you're obviously going to run into a lot of family members. You can definitely tell that Kevin Smith is still finding his legs, and figuring out what he can with the bigger budget. But even with the growing pains it's a fun movie.

Please refrain from insulting other patrons and help us keep this place civil and peaceful. Continue to do so will result in a permanent ban. this is the only warning.

Claire Forlani is also in Mystery Men, which also stars SO many great people, like Ben Stiller, Wm H. Macy, Paul Rubens, Greg Kinnear & my fave artist of all time (cuz he does everything) the immortal Tom Waits. Seriously underrated movie, IMHO. I encourage everyone to add it to their list!

Jason Pratt

He was a demon, Azreal, not the devil.

Chago_kiba_Lee

Please tell me your gunna watch jay and silent bob strike back

memofrancisco283

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 (COMIC-BOOK GUY) ‘GREATEST INTRO EVER!!’ 😂😂😂😂😂 This movie goes back to when I watched it in 6th grade and became so intrigued on how much dialogue there was; primarily; and I really enjoyed it. This is in my top 10 all time favorite movies R.I.P Stan Lee & Shannon Doherty

Galactic Cannibl

I very much hoping for Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back

Sean Hennessy

Quick trivia, this was really the first movie they had filled outside of NJ. It got filled in Minnesota because they had a mall there that was really on hard times, so it had a lot of open stores that they could use to set all these fake stores in. The mall is doing much better now.

DeadmanJAX

I love the view askiew universe so much.I grew up not far from kevin smith in NJ so i consider him a local hero lol I hope you guys keep going with these!

Brandon Meng

YES, please continue Kevin Smith films! Chasing Amy is his most well received film after Clerks by far but Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was pretty much my older adolescent defining raunchy comedy of the early 00s, could not get enough. Would love to see a reaction for that one. Also must react to Zack and Miri Make a Porno, a vastly underrated 00s era comedy with many of the same actors but doesn't fall in the same "Jay and Silent Bob" universe. Jason Lee (Brodie) had his own great run through the 90s and 00s doing a bunch of movies and having his own primetime sitcom starring role in My Name is Earl. Even had a great romantic comedy with Julia Stiles "It's a Guy Thing" if you're looking for random funny romcoms.

Shiby23

I'm always down for more. just be cautious for for a certain clerks movie ;)

Scot Acocks

It's extra funny seeing Michael Rooker in this after seeing many of his other roles, such as "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" and "The Walking Dead".

Scot Acocks

While I really like Chasing Amy, it's just too serious for me most of the time. I much prefer either of the first two Clerks films, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back, and definitely Zack and Miri!

Wrencher86

Chasing Amy is probably the best all-around movie out of the first 3, though it is considerably more serious/dramatic. And for something completely different featuring Michael Rooker I recommend Mississippi Burning, a film about murdered civil rights activists in Mississippi starring Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe. Also features Brad Dourif (Grima Wormtongue).

Joe D

Please continue through the entire View Askewniverse

Saddleface

I agree. Please continue the View Askewniverse! It’s so fun and different than other movies.

Kevin Smith said Jason Mewes is a natural comedic genius. Before Kevin met him he said he would hear stories about how weird and funny he was. I reccomend watching An evening with Kevin Smith Q& A....you don't have to react to it most of its on YouTube I think. It's absolutely hilarious Kevin has so many stories to tell.
